There are two different recording methods, Direct Recording (recording a programme you are currently watching) and Timer Recording. Timer recording is classified as follows: Recording mode : HQ (high quality mode), HSP, SP (standard quality mode), LSP, ESP, LP, EP, SLP (Long duration mode) according to the recording mode. When recording is set in the AUTO mode, the best quality picture is recorded with regards to the remaining time on the disc. IN DVB-T mode, the recording is only AUTO mode.
Step 6 : Finalising & Playing on other DVD components
To play your DVD on other DVD components, finalising may be necessary. First, finish all editing and recording operations, then finalise the disc. When using a DVD-RW/-R disc in VR Mode Although finalising is generally unnecessary when playing the disc on a VR Mode compatible component, a finalised disc should be used for playback. When using a DVD-RW/-R disc in Video Mode The disc should be finalised first to enable playback on anything other than this DVD Recorder & VCR. No more editing or recording can be made on the disc once it has been finalised. To enable recording on the disc again, the disc must be unfinalised. When using a DVD+R disc You should finalise the disc to play it on a component other than this DVD Recorder & VCR. You cannot edit or record on the disc once it has been finalised.

Step 4 : Playing

To start playback, select the title you want to play from the title list. A DVD consists of sections called titles, and sub- sections called chapters. During recording, a title is created between two points where you start and stop recording. Chapters will be created automatically regardless of the disc type when it is set at the setup menu.

Step 5 : Editing a recorded disc
Editing on discs is easier than conventional video tapes. The DVD Recorder & VCR supports many different edit functions, possible only with DVDs. With a simple and easy edit menu, you can operate various edit functions, such as delete, rename, lock, etc., on a recorded title. Connecting External Devices
Case1 : Connecting an external devices to the AV3 jacks
You can connect other audio/video equipment to your DVD Recorder & VCR using audio/video cables if the appropriate outputs are available on the equipment chosen.
1. Connect one end of the video cable into the VIDEO input jack on the front of the DVD Recorder & VCR. 2. Plug the other end of the video cable into the appropriate output connector on the other system (VCR or Camcorder, etc). 3. Connect one end of the audio cable supplied into the AUDIO input jacks on the front of the DVD Recorder & VCR. Take care to respect the colour coding of the left and right channels. 4. Plug the other end of the audio cable into the appropriate output connectors on the other system (VCR or Camcorder, etc).
Case 2 : Connecting a DV Device to the DV IN jack (DVD-VR475M only)
If your DV Device has a DV output jack, connect it to the DV input jack of your DVD Recorder & VCR. If your camcorder has a DV output jack, connect it to the DV input jack of your DVD RECORDER &VCR, see page 59 or 69 for more information.

Recording Mode (VCR) AUTO : Select when you want to set video quality automatically. It depends on remaining time on the VCR tape. SP : Standard Play, for best picture quality. LP : Long Play, for maximum recording time (2 times SP).
M When you are recording at EP mode on a DVD-RW(V mode)/-R disc,
it may not record the full 6 hours because the unit uses the VBR(Variable Bit Rate) ENCODING system. For example, if you record a programme with a lot of action, it uses a higher bit rate which in turn consumes more disc memory.
DVB-T Timer recording is possible only on AUTO mode. On DVB-T recording, recording mode will be automatically

Basic VCR Recording

Before starting
1. Check TV channel and Antenna connections. 2. Check the remaining time on the tape. You can record a TV show in progress by inserting a blank tape and pressing the l (REC) button. You can even add time in preset increments up to 6 hours by pressing the l (REC) button repeatedly.
M Be sure your videotape has a Record Safety Tab. If the tab is missing,
you can cover the opening with a small piece of tape.
J Warning : Do not cover this opening unless you are sure you
want to record over the tape. 1. Insert a blank VHS tape into the VCR deck.
Make sure the tape is long enough to record the entire programme.
2. Press the Number buttons or the PROG/TRK ( / ) buttons to select the desired channel. Press the INPUT SEL. button to select PR, AV1, AV2, AV3 or DV input (DVD-VR475M only) if recording from an external device connected to the input jacks of the recorder. 3. If you find start point, press the button to select (Record), then press the OK button. Dubbing starts.

DV Tape Mode

DV One Touch Dubbing
You can record the entire contents of a DV format tape onto a disc easily by using the DV One Touch Dubbing function. To setup, follow steps 1~3 4. Press the buttons to select DV One Touch Dubbing, then press the OK button. DVD Recorder & VCR rewinds the tape in the digital video camera and then starts recording the tape contents from the beginning. When playback of the tape stops, One Touch Dubbing ends automatically.

Dividing a title into two (Divide Title)
Follow these instructions to divide a title into two.
1. Press the TITLE LIST button. The Title List screen is displayed.
2. Press the buttons to select a title you want to devide from the Title List, then press the OK button.

Divide Title (Original)

Title No. 01
3. Press the buttons to select Divide Title, then press the OK button. The setting the dividing point screen is displayed. The Point is selected. 4. Press the OK button at the point where you want to divide the title. The Divide is selected. 5. Press the OK button. You will be prompted with a confirmation message. The Message Do you want to divide title No.01? is displayed. To reset the divinding point, select No and press the OK button, then repeat from step 4. The display also whether to rename the title. To use the same name as before, select No and press the OK button to finish. 6. Press the buttons to select Yes, then press the OK button. The Title Name screen is displayed. 7. Follow steps 3 to 5 of Changing the Name of a Title (page 71) to complete renaming. The devided title appears in the Title List with the new name.
