Hernis surveillance onboard
for Norwegian Gas Exports

sgard, the new era

Perhaps the most instructive example of a Norwegian eld development that encompasses many of the developing technologies is the sgard project on Haltenbanken. Lying in water depth between 240m and 300m, and featuring three separate reservoirs all with different uid systems and zones, sgards technical challenges are formidable. Hernis delivers turn-key CCTV (Closed Circuit Tele Vision) systems world-wide. Being the leading CCTV manufacturer in their niche (hazardous areas) Hernis has successfully managed to bid for, and win one of the many sought after tenders that has been put out for the sgard project. The contract for sgard A production vessel was won through normal tender phases. sgard B semisubmersible gas platform was won by using the Frame Agreement between Hernis Scan Systems and Statoil. sgard C oating storage unit was won through Hitec Marine who will deliver the submerged turret system to sgard C. All three separate units will be equipped with the HE300 system. The systems, consisting mainly of the HE300 control system, the new EX285 camera
stations for hazardous areas and PT-30 camera stations for safe areas, as well as monitors and keyboards will be prepared for communication between sgard B semi-submersible gas platform and sgard C oating storage unit. From the eld centre any camera and/or monitor can be selected and controlled no matter where they are located. A similar system, which may also be connected to the network, will be installed onshore at Krst. The 278-metre long sgard A vessel will have a storage capacity of 912.000 barrels and an oil processing capability of 201.000 bpd. Gas production from the sgard B platform is slated to start in year 2000 and will have annual export capacity of 12 billion cubic metres of gas. The platform will also be able to produce 41.000 barrels of oil and 94.000 bpd of condensate. sgards recoverable reserves are estimated at 830 million barrels of oil and 212 Bcm of commercial gas. In addition to sgard A and B, the development includes the sgard C storage ship with a capacity of 975.000 barrels of oil. The Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel sgard A is set to sail from the Aker Stord yard on 22. November. Meanwhile, construction of the sgard B semi-submersible gas platform has just started. The hull is being built at the Daewoo yard in Korea, and will be transferred to Kvrner Rosenberg in Stavanger during August next year for mating of the topsides.

Hernis will deliver the HE300 CCTV system including interface to the sub-sea camera system to each of the above drillships. The cameras will be strategically positioned to ensure top surveillance of all critical areas such as the moon pool, Derrick monkey board, Derrick crown, drill oor etc. The technically advanced Ex285 camera station approved for group IIC will be located in all hazardous areas, while the PT-30 and S9 stainless steel camera housing for safe area will be positioned in places like the engine & thruster rooms. Linking the whole system by using Hernis Multicable makes installation easy. It is possible to operate and monitor the system from several different locations onboard the vessel.
Hernis win new markets in the

Mexican Gulf

through drillship at Samsung
Five years ago, the Gulf was being written off and there was a mass exodus of rigs to other parts of the world. Then came the amazing transformation from the dead sea into a vigorous, vibrant and healthy location. When Samsung Heavy Industries won the order to build three of the worlds largest drillships, a joint venture between Conoco and Reading & Bates (the worlds largest deep sea oil eld development specialist company), Hernis got the CCTV contract. The rst vessel (H1220) will be dedicated to drill in Conocos deepwater Gulf acreage. The second drillship (H1231) is to be launched in the rst quarter of 1999 and will carry out a 30-month drilling programme for Conoco in the Gulf. The third vessel (H1255) will be delivered late 1999. The 103.000 DWT vessels are capable of drilling for oil and gas up to 8,000 metres below the ocean oor in water as deep as 3,000 metres. The $280 million each ultra-deep water dynamically-positioned drillships are designed to be environmentally friendly and meets the most stringent American Bureau of Shipping DPS-3 standards. A oating platform in the middle of the vessel contains a drilling rig and crude oil processing plant at least four times larger than on most other drill ships. The vessel is 221,5 metres long, 42 metres wide and 20 metres deep.

Hernis got the ISO-9001 approval from DnV
