Page 2 of 5 New for 2008, Samsung has integrated powerful Bluetooth 2.0 technology in a number of its home theater lineup, including the HT-A100, HT-X710, HT-X715 and the HT-X810, creating new opportunities for consumers to enjoy their digital devices. From Bluetoothenabled portable media players and cell phones to wireless headphones, Samsungs 2008 home theater systems can send and receive audio signals without the need for wires. Utilizing the impressive range of Bluetooth 2.0 technology, Samsung's home theater systems are able to sync with Bluetooth-enabled devices including cell phones and MP3 players that allow consumers to seamlessly play their personal music from portable devices through the bigger sound of their home theater system. Adding to the premium audio capabilities, Samsungs Auto Sound Calibration, featured on select 2008 home theater systems, uses an included microphone to deliver optimum surround sound despite the final positioning of the various speakers. A number of models also include a Smart Volume function that monitors and adjusts the volume levels of content coming through the system, providing a solution to the common annoyance consumers experience when volume levels dramatically increase or decrease when TV broadcasts switch to commercials. Additionally, Auto Sound Calibration helps to compensate for speaker placement to provide the ideal listening experience in a given room layout. Most models also include a cradle for MP3 connectivity.

For picture quality aficionados, every 2008-model Samsung home theater system provides 1080p DVD video upconversion, which ensures consumers can enjoy high quality sound with high quality picture. Additionally, all models can interact with other home theater components via HDMI outputs with CEC (Anynet+) for expanded color transmission and easy home theater control. An integrated USB port also lets users connect their digital still camera or digital video camera to their home theater for addition viewing options.
Page 3 of 5 The Z510 Series Home Theater Systems Samsung offers three models in the Z510 Series, which feature 1200 Watts of 5.1channel surround sound via four satellite speakers (HT-Z510), two satellites and two tallboys (HT-Z512), or four tallboys (HT-Z515). All models include a HDMI-CEC output, 1080p DVD video upconversion, five-disc DVD / CD changer, and MP3, WMA, DivX and JPEG playback. For added ease-of-installation, the Z510 series models come equipped with a 5.8GHz wireless module for the surround speakers and the satellite speaker bases found on the HT-Z510 and HT-Z512 can also be used for mounting the speakers flush to a wall. The Z510 Series includes Auto Sound Calibration and Smart Volume for optimized audio quality, XM Satellite Radio Ready support, and an iPod cradle.

The X710 Series Home Theater Systems Employing Samsungs Touch of Color rose black accents found on the new Series 6 and 7 LCDs and Series 6 Plasma HDTVs, the 2.1-channel, 400 Watt HT-X710 and the 5.1-channel, 800 Watt HT-X715 utilize a compact, dual-layout chassis, and add complementary style to most any home theater. Both models include Bluetooth for wireless audio enjoyment via enabled devices, HDMI-CEC connectivity, and slot-in disc player with 1080p DVD video upconversion. They also include DivX, MP3, WMA, and JPEG file compatibility while the HT-X715 offers the added convenience of 5.8GHz wireless-ready functionality for the rear satellite speakers. Raising the bar

ome theatre sound bars are the kind of product that makes sense for a whole lot of people. They typically deliver a sense of surround sound, take up virtually no space, and when designed properly, they can look good too. Audio Video has had a look and listen to quite a few sound bar variants, but none so far have been equipped with as many bells and whistles as the Samsung HT-X810, which is due for international release at around the same time that youll be reading this review. Said bells and whistles include a built in DVD player that can scale all the way up to 1080p, Bluetooth connectivity, and it even has a USB input. While all of these are nice features, what I really liked about the 810 was that it was supplied with an active subwoofer, and not just any old sub either.The neat looking sub used 5.8 GHz wireless technology to receive its

audio signals, and this meant that placement options within a room were virtually endless. Okay, my last statement isnt entirely true, as you do have to place the sub within a finite distance of a plug point.This in reality means that the sub isnt entirely wireless, as the last time I checked, power cords used wires in them, but you should get my point that not having to run an audio cable to the sub does make placement easier. On the styling front, the 810 has been designed to match the look of the latest range of Samsung monitors, from 40-inches up. It features similar soft touch buttons, and similar gloss black finish. It is also wall-mountable, and this means that it really wont take up any more space than your monitor does. I didnt wall mount the 810 as I didnt think that my Audio Video boss would appreciate me drilling holes through the screen in the studio
when I tried the unit there.And my other boss certainly would have exploded had I drilled holes in the freshly painted walls in our home. The 810 doesnt need to be wall-mounted, and I thought that it looked just as neat sitting in front of the monitor in the studio and in front of my home television. On the performance front, the 810 proved to be extremely good at some things, good at others, and average on some. Video quality was a system highlight and up scaled images, delivered via HDMI to a Samsung monitor, were smooth, good looking and detailed. Next we come to sound quality delivered by the speakers built into the 810.This proved to be good, although not quite up to what one would expect from dedicated surround sound speakers.There was however enough reasonably detailed and adequately loud and controlled audio for most DVDs and CDs.
The only area where I felt that the 810 needed some improvement and here it is worth mentioning again that the review unit was a pre-production model was sub bass. The sub tended to boom merrily away, almost irrespective of the sound setting used. I also couldnt find a subwoofer level setting in the set up menu, so couldnt turn the sub level down.The sub did however perform faultlessly as far as never losing signal was concerned. Overall, the Samsung HT-X810 packs a lot into a neat package, and for the fashion conscious may be all they need for a complete home theatre system. I would have liked a little more surround sound, and a better sounding sub with a level and delay settings, and if the production models have these, they will certainly raise the surround bar just that little bit higher.
