Lexmarks new E240 up to 21 percent faster than competitors
October 2005 - QualityLogic Inc., a leading independent test firm, was recently commissioned by Lexmark International Inc. to conduct tests to compare the performance of the Lexmark E240 printer to the HP LaserJet 1022n, and the Samsung ML-2251NP. All printers were tested using the latest available, highest function level drivers for each respective manufacturer. The Lexmark printer used a PCL 6 driver while the HP and Samsung printers used host-based drivers. Lexmarks E240 measured faster than the competitive printers. When comparing the total print times of all test files, the Lexmark E240 measured 19 percent faster than the HP LaserJet 1022n and 21 percent faster than the Samsung ML-2251NP.

QualityLogic selected the test files and methodology for this study using the PageSense 4.2 Business Suite for Office XP. QualityLogics PageSense printer performance test tool is an industry standard that is used in PC Magazines printer performance test reviews. Methodology

PageSense uses an automated process for printing and recording time measurements using a smart paper-sensing unit. Accurate performance data is logged into a database automatically. Each file is run twice to ensure a total print time measurement variation no greater than 5 percent. The Business Suite test files selected by QualityLogic are a subset of the standard PageSense 4.2 test files and are intended to replicate the type of files printed by the typical business customer. Lexmark identified the test group of printers based on comparable price and target markets. Performance tests that use different printer firmware versions, drivers, test files, or test computers may generate results different from those in this report. The test results were provided by QualityLogic. Testing was performed under laboratory conditions and your results may vary.

Configuration

Testing was performed with applications running on a Dell Optiplex GX270 3.2 GHz Pentium 4 Windows XP Professional client with 1.0 GB of RAM. The client and the printer were attached via a USB cable. Each printer was tested at its respective standard printer memory configuration. The Lexmark E240 had 16 MB of installed memory, the HP LaserJet 1022n had 8 MB, and the Samsung ML-2251NP had 16 MB.
All printers and printer drivers were configured to their default settings. The Lexmark E240 used a PCL 6 datastream while the HP LaserJet 1022n and Samsung ML-2251NP used host-based datastreams. Detailed printer specifications may be obtained from the respective printer manufacturers web sites.
