Samsung Launches New Shark Series of Phones

South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung Electronics announced today the launch of a new series of mobile phones, a sleek, tactile and powerful range called Samsung Shark. There are three handsets currently included in the lineup, namely the candy bar Shark (S5350), and two slider phones Shark 2 (S5550) and Shark 3 (S3550). According to the company, all three devices are expected to become available for purchase during January. Samsung also revealed that the new series of phones was mainly developed to meet the needs of multimedia enthusiasts, while also including a wide range of connectivity options, with fast access to social networks, friends and family. "The Shark Series is designed to meet the needs of active, style-conscious users who demand constant connection with their peers.The Shark Series will not only keep these users up-to-date with the latest news and information important to them, but also allows them to express their own style and distinctive personal taste." said Younghee Lee, vice president of Mobile Marketing, Samsung Electronics. Moreover, the company says that the new devices come to the market at rather affordable price tags, though no exact details on this matter have been unveiled for the time being. Users will enjoy the purchase of an affordable device that also provides them with one-click access to Facebook, MySpace, Bebo and other favorite sites, a great multimedia experience, as well as a wide range of security features, including Mobile Tracker, through which one can recover a lost or stolen device. The Shark (S5350) comes with a candybar form factor, an 11.9mm slim profile, a great user interface, a 3.2 megapixel photo snapper with video recording capabilities, Multi-instant messenger for simultaneous access to GTalk, AIM, and Palringo Chat, and other more. Shark 2 (S5550) features an AMOLED display, great performance levels and a 5-megapixel photo snapper with video recording capabilities. The phone also includes a microSD slot with support for up to 8GB of additional storage space, Bluetooth connectivity and the same Multi-instant messenger app as Shark. Shark 3 (S3550) sports a slim and sleek exterior, complemented by enhanced functionality on the inside, the company notes. A new innovative UI is there, along with intuitive navigation, and fast connectivity to social networks are also present with the new device, along with a 2-megapixel photo snapper, 40MB of built-in memory and a MicroSD memory card slot for up to 8GB of additional storage space, and others more. I don't know what's up with Samsung these days, but it is pumping out new products like there's no tomorrow. And no, we're not talking about CES right here (where the Korean company went completely nuts, making it extremely difficult for us to track all of its various product launches), but about its brand-new Shark handsets, targeting the increasingly thicker ranks of social-networking addicts. The Shark series includes, for the time being, three models, namely the candy bar Shark (S5350) and two slider phones, the Shark 2 (S5550) and Shark 3 (S3550) models. All of the phones provide fast and easy access to social networking services such as Facebook, MySpace, Bebo and others. Moreover, the Samsung Communities software enables users to upload and share photos and personal videos to global SNS or photo sharing sites quickly and easily, including here sites like Flickr, Picasa, Photobucket, and YouTube. The first new model from the Shark family, the candy bar Shark (S5350), features a metallic finish and an asymmetric design, which provides a better grip than the conventional straight-lined models. The device is quite slim and easy to carry around (measures 115.2 x 46.7 x 11.9 mm, 99.2 grams in weight), comes equipped with a 2.2-inch, QVGA screen and a 3.2-megapixel camera with extensive functionality. Plus, the handheld features a built-in Bluetooth module, supports HDSPA, UMTS and GPRS networks and its built-in battery offers a functioning life of up to 190 minutes (in 3G mode). As expected, it also delivers extensive multimedia playback options (both in terms of video and audio). The second Shark phone, the S5550 Shark 2 slider, features a case that combines metal and a Kevlar material. However, its main selling point is, without a doubt, the built-in AMOLED display, which offers very good quality images in any lighting conditions. Additional details worth mentioning about the Shark 2 include the 5-megapixel camera with Auto Focus, capable of recording video at 30fps for steady playback, in QVGA resolution. Other features include 110MB internal memory and an external microSD slot (up to 8GB), ensuring significant storage for any multimedia needs. Finally, the Shark 3 (S3550) also adopts the slider design, coming equipped with a patterned metallic back and a 2-inch display, as well as all of the other social-networking features we've mentioned above. "The Shark Series is designed to meet the needs of active, style-conscious users who demand constant connection with their peers. All the new mobile phone models from the Shark series are scheduled to arrive in stores over the course of January, but no pricing details have been provided thus far.
