BACKGROUND: Ensemble is an excellent example of this very popular model from Nautors Swan. From the drawing board of Ron Holland, the Swan 391 was designed for consistent all-around performance over a wide spectrum of conditions on all points of sailing. Ensemble is #22 of the 52 built between 1981 and 1987 and the design has a reputation as being a bullet proof sailing yacht. She has a very complete sail inventory of both racing and cruising sails, many of which are essentially new with very little use. The teak decks were replaced in 1999 as well as new Perkins Mhp engine. Many additional upgrades have been done with the major ones being all new standing rod rigging, new running rigging, new life lines Balmar 100 amp alternator, Lofrans windlass, custom SS radar pole on backstay with Questus gimbaled mount and full boat cover. The hull was painted with Awlgrip in 2000 and shows like new, bottom has been painted and engine and prop serviced just this year.
CONSTRUCTION: The hull is hand laid GRP with foam cored stringers and frames. A steel girder structure takes all keel and rig loadings. The deck is GRP sandwich construction with foam core. Solid laminate with alloy backing plates in way of deck fittings. Keel is external lead with antimony with cast-in stainless steel keel bolts. The rudder is foam filled GRP on tubular stock on roller bearings. Decks are teak overlay which were replaced in 1999.
LAYOUT: The forward cabin has drop-down V-berths with filler piece with excellent storage below. A large opening hatch for sail changes and a stainless bar mounted for line storage below the port bunk. As you move aft, the head is to starboard with lockers directly across.

Forward berth

In the main saloon there is an L shaped settee with shelves and bookcases to starboard. There is a pilot berth and straight settee to port. A dining table with fold out leaves and top compartment is secured centerline. There are 3 opening hatches located in the main saloon (2 more than standard). Aft of the saloon is the nav station to starboard with the galley across on port. Behind the nav table is a large hanging locker.

Salon (facing forward)

The companion way is entered between the galley and nav station and is a sliding hatch with no washboards to deal with. To port is the entrance to a large
aft stateroom with standing headroom. There is a centerline settee located between a double berth to port and a single berth on starboard.

The original leather upholstery is in excellent condition. The interior which has been revarnished and been well taken care of. Floor boards have been stripped, epoxied, varnished and hand rubbed with rotten stone. Lockers have LED lights which automatically come on when opened.

ON DECK The 391 carries a tall, keel stepped double spreader mast supported by in line cap, intermediate and lower shrouds coming down to a common chain plate. In addition there is a baby backstay and running backs although the later are more belts and braces in heavier seas. The Navtec hydraulic system controls the backstay, babystay and vang. All winches are Lewmar. A spinnaker pole is secure on deck to starboard.

RIGGING

NAUTOR-built aluminum spar section, silver anodized, double spreader rig, keelstepped. Rig dimensions: o I=53.50' (16.31m) o J=16.25' (4.95m) o P=47.25' (14.40m) o E=14.00' (4.27m) The standing rigging is NAVTEC discontinuous Alpha rod rigging with single lowers. (replaced 2002) Babystay Running backstays NAVTEC System V (4) function hydraulic control panel mounted on the pedestal for the dual/twin/split backstay tensioning cylinders and the boom vang.
