HOW TO SET THE TIME/CALENDAR
1. Unscrew the crown (if screwdown type) and pull out to the first click. 2. Turn crown counter clockwise until the previous days date appears. 3. Pull crown out to the second click when the second hand is at the 12 oclock position. The second hand stops on the spot. 4. Turn crown clockwise until the present date appears. 5. Set the hour and minute hands to present time. Be sure AM and PM are set accordingly. 6. Push crown back in to the normal position in accordance with a time signal. 7. Screw in (if screwdown type) the crown. Notes: Do not set the date between 10:00 AM and 2:00 AM, otherwise it may not change properly. If it is necessary to set the date during that time period, first advance the time ahead of 2:00 AM, set the date and then reset the correct time. The date changes instantly when the hands move past the 12 oclock marker at midnight. When the date is set by turning the hands, however, it may change gradually between 2:00 AM and 6:00 AM. This is not a malfunction.

WATCH OPERATION
REMARKS ON THE K.E.S.U.
Continued from page 65
When setting the hour hand, check that AM/PM is set correctly. The watch is designed so that the calendar changes once in 24 hours. Turn the hands past the 12 oclock marker to determine whether the watch is set for the AM or PM period. If the date changes the time is set for the AM period. If the date does not change, the time is set for the PM period. When setting the minute hand, advance it 4 to 5 minutes ahead of the desired time and then turn it back to the exact minute. When setting the time, make sure that the second hand is moving at one-second intervals. It is necessary to adjust the date at the end of February and 30-day months. In this case, pull the crown out to the first click and turn it counter-clockwise until the desired date appears.
The chronograph can measure up to 12 hours, 6 minutes and 12.2 seconds in 1/10 second increments. The measured time is indicated by small hands that move independently of the hands for time indication.
TIPS ON READING THE HANDS
The minute hand turns a full circle in 30 minutes. The indicated scale, therefore, should be read differently depending on the position of the hour hand. Ex.) The minute hand indicates 10: Measured time is either 10 minutes or 40 minutes. Check the position of the hour to decide which to choose. 1 hour and 10 minutes (The hour hand is nearer to the 1-hour marker) 1 hour and 40 minutes (The hour hand is nearer to the 2-hour marker) Ex.) 1 hour 55 minutes 50 seconds and 9/10th: Second hand reading (The second hand almost points to 51 but should be read as 50 as the 1/10 second hand indicates 9) Minute hand reading (The minute hand almost points to 26 but should be read as 55 as the measured seconds are 50 and the hour hand is nearer to the 2-hour marker. Refer to the first example in this section)
Do not pull the crown out to the second click position with the intention of stopping the second hand just to save energy. By doing so, a large amount of current flows through the built-in Integrated Circuit. Therefore, pulling the crown out to the second click position will not save energy but, in fact, consume more energy than usual.
When the second hand starts moving at two-second intervals instead of the normal one-second intervals, the watch will run down in approximately 12 hours.
HOW TO SET THE TIME AND CALENDAR
1. Unscrew crown and pull out to the first click position. 2. Turn crown counterclockwise until the previous days date appears. 3. Pull crown out to the second click position. 4. Turn counter-clockwise to advance the hour and minute hands past 12:00 AM. Doing so will advance the date to the current date. 5. Set hour and minute hands to the desired time taking AM or PM into consideration. 6. Push crown back in to the unscrewed position. 7. Screw in the crown.
HOW TO USE STOPWATCH
The stopwatch can measure up to 45 minutes in 1/5 second increments. After 48 minutes, the stopwatch stops automatically. 1. Press button A to start, stop and restart the stopwatch. 2. Press button B to reset the stopwatch. 3. Do not press buttons A and B at the same time, or press one of the two buttons while keeping the other pressed.

KINETIC AUTO RELAY
This watch is equipped with an Automatic Generating System, the unique technology developed by Seiko, which generates electrical energy to power the watch by utilizing the movement of the arm or wrist, and stores it in the KINETIC ENERGY STORAGE UNIT (K.E.S.U.).
POWER SAVE FUNCTION
In order to conserve the stored electrical energy, the watch automatically enters power save mode to stop the hands from moving approximately 24 hours after the watch is taken off the wrist. In a case that the fully charged watch enters the power save mode, the time relay function of the watch remains operable for approximately four years.
TIME RELAY FUNCTION
When the watch is in power save mode, swinging the watch several times will activate the time relay function, which automatically resets the watch hands to the correct time that has been retained inside the watch.
PERPETUAL CALENDAR FUNCTION
Once set, the calendar automatically adjusts for odd and even months including February of leap years until the year 2100. While the watch is in power save mode, the perpetual calendar continues to function (the calendar continues to properly advance). Even if the watch is completely stopped due to a shortage of stored electrical energy, the calendar can be manually adjusted by simple procedures.
HOW TO CHARGE THE WATCH
When using the watch for the first time after it is purchased, be sure to charge the K.E.S.U. (Kinetic Energy Storage Unit) sufficiently by swinging the watch from side to side before setting the time and other functions. 1. Swing the watch from side to side approximately 500 times at the rate of twice per second. This will start the watch and the second hand will move at one-second intervals. Swinging the watch 200 times further will reserve approximately one day of power. 2. Set the time/calendar and put on the watch. Note: Wearing the watch continuously for 12 hours will accumulate power to run the watch for approximately one and a half additional days. As a general guideline, if you wear the watch every day for 12 hours over a period of a week, the power to run the watch for approximately ten days will be additionally secured. If the watch enters the power save mode, this amount of energy will keep the watch running for approximately one month and a half.

HOW TO CHARGE THE WATCH:
When using the watch for the first time after it is purchased, be sure to charge the K.E.S.U. (Kinetic Energy Storage Unit) sufficiently by swinging the watch side to side before setting the time and other functions. 1. Swing the watch from side to side approximately 250 times at the rate of twice per second. This will start the watch and the second hand will move at one-second intervals. Swinging the watch 200 times further will reserve approximately one additional day of power. If the watch enters the power save mode, this amount of energy will keep the watch from running for approximately one month and a half.
HOW TO SET TIME AND DATE:
Unscrew (if screwdown type) the crown by turning it counter-clockwise and pull out to the first click position. Turn the crown clockwise until the previous days date appears. Pull the crown out to the second click. Turn the crown to advance the hands until the date changes to the next day. The time is set for the A.M. period. Keep advancing the hands to set the correct time. Push the crown back into the original position. Screw in crown (if screwdown type).
HOW TO USE THE 24-HOUR HAND (5M65):
Because this watch is designed with an hour hand that can move separately from the other hands, setting procedures are a bit different. You can set the watch in two different modes: The 24-hour hand shows 24-hour time and acts as an AM/PM indicator while the hour hand shows 12-hour time OR The 24-hour hand shows the time in a different time zone from the time shown by the hour hand. 1. Pull the crown out to the second click position when the second hand is at the 12 oclock position. 2a. For a single time zone, so the 24-hour hand indicates AM/PM, turn the crown in either direction to set the minute hand and 24-hour hand to the current time in your area, using the 24-hour marks on the dial. OR 2b.To use the 24-hour hand to indicate time in another zone, turn the crown in either direction to set the minute hand and the 24-hour hand to the time in another area, using the 24-hour marks on the dial. 3. Push the crown back to normal position. 4. Now pull the crown out to the first click position and rotate it in either direction, moving the hour hand around the dial (it moves in one hour increments) until both the date and hour are correct for your area. 5. Push the crown back to normal position.
PROCEDURES TO CHECK AND ADJUST CALENDAR
STEP 1 Pull out to first click.
STEP 2 ZERO-MATCHING THE SECOND POSITION Press and hold button for 2 seconds, the second hand moves to the initially set zero position which should be exactly at 12 oclock. If not, adjustment can be made by following instructions in step 3. STEP 3 ZERO-MATCHING THE CALENDAR DISK Press the button. The calendar disk swings back and forth for one time to show that you are now adjusting the zero position of the calendar disk. The calendar disk should show the initially set zero position which is 1. If not, adjust it by turning the crown.

The calendar disk moves to the initially set current month. Adjust it, if necessary, by turning the crown. STEP 6 ADJUSTING THE YEAR Press the button. The second hand moves to 11 oclock position to show that you are now adjusting the year. The calendar disk moves to the initially set current year. Adjust it, if necessary, by turning the crown (the calendar displays the last 2 digits of the Christian Era until 2031).
STEP 7 COMPLETING THE ADJUSTMENT The calendar adjustment is completed by pushing the crown back to the normal position. Hour, minute and second hands will advance to correct time.
BATTERY LIFE INDICATOR
When the second hand starts moving at two-second intervals instead of the normal one-second interval, replace the battery with a new one as soon as possible. Otherwise, the watch will stop operating in a couple of days. The time accuracy is not affected even if the second hand is moving at two-second intervals. While the second hand is moving at two-second intervals, the date will not change. This is not a malfunction.
CHECKING AND ADJUSTMENT OF THE CALENDAR AFTER BATTERY CHANGE
After the battery is replaced with a new one, be sure to check that the calendar is correct. If the watch does not indicate the year, month and date correctly, adjust the calendar. (See HOW TO CHECK AND ADJUST THE CALENDAR.)

Once the desired day is indicated, continue to turn the crown to set the hour and minute hands to the desired time taking AM and PM into account (24 hour sub-dial). Push the crown back into the original position. The watch immediately starts ticking.
