Insufficient information about initial copy settings on initial copy screen
All iR series models do not show the details of initial copy setting information on the initial copy screen, whereas the e-STUDIO series shows the current setting information with icons and wordings. By using a user-friendly interface, users of the e-STUDIO series can easily make their desired settings, reducing waste papers produced by wrong settings. Canon iR 3570/4570 series (3) The template function is not handy.
For the iR 3570/4570, a combination of copy, scan, and FAX jobs is not allowed in the template function. Although the control panel has become slightly bigger and uses the color LCD, the template function has not been improved and the basic features of the user interface are almost the same.

Only 1 public box is provided. A use name, a file name and a password should be assigned document by document, in order to facilitate searching. Only 5 documents can be displayed on the single screen. Therefore, the user cannot find the desired document promptly.
Template function with only 40 items registerable
The Job Memory function of the WCP/DC series is the same as the Template function of the e-STUDIO series, but the number of registerable items is different: 12,060 items for the e-STUDIO series while 40 for the WCP/DC series, very few and not practical.

Wide space required for maintenance, such as jam clear
Users must pull the inner finisher diagonally toward the front for maintenance, such as for clearing a jam or inserting a strip of staples. It requires more space than expected. Replacing the stapler cartridge is not easy because the cartridge is located at the back of the inner finisher where a users finger cannot reach easily.

Measurement conditions
This section describes a comparison in the copy productivity between the e-STUDIO352/452, e-STUDIO350/450 and 5 competitors in the following two aspects: Achievement of the maximum specified copy speed under a designated measuring condition. Actual time required to complete copy jobs under a designated measuring condition.
[Measurement Conditions] The productivity of both models was measured under the following 2 conditions: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Load 10 simplex or duplex originals on the RADF. Choose the 1st or 2nd cassette to feed paper from (with APS disabled). Use A4-sized plain paper. Choose a 100% actual size copy (with AMS disabled). Choose text/photo mode (default) and manually set density to Normal (0). Measure the time from when the START key is pressed until the copier returns to a ready state after the trailing edge of the last copy page is ejected.

Print throughput of the e-STUDIO352/452 has been improved over the conventional model e-STUDIO350/450 due to the improvement of parallel processing using the RIPs and review of the sequence. Especially print throughput has been greatly improved for printing an Excel file with multiple sheets and data with photographic images, and highly compressed scan data.

Although print performance of the e-STUDIO352/452 (PCL6, PSL3) for this data sample (MS PowerPoint with many graphic images) has a little disadvantage over the iR 3570, Aficio 2045, and DC 350 I which all utilize their own language suitable for Windows environment, it is not a good idea to judge the performance with this data only because print quality must be considered. Only the bizhub 3510 and AR-450 took a great amount of time to print data.

The operating procedures are as follows: (1) Place an original on the ADF or original glass of the MFP. (2) Select Scan to Box (e-filing/HDD) on the Control Panel and perform scanning. (3) Remove the original from the MFP. (4) Run the TWAIN-compatible application on the client PC and perform scanning. (5) Store the scanned-in document through the application. * The above numbers correspond to the ones in the figure below. (The arrows indicate that the operator goes back and forth between the MFP and the client PC over and over again.)

(4) (5)
The scanned-in document is stored in the Box, first. Then, pull-scan is used to access the stored document from the client PC for retrieval. This avoids having the operator bounce back and forth between the MFP and the client PC. In addition, the scan job does not occupy the MFP. This does not interrupt any jobs requested by other operators over the network.

Summary (1/3) e-STUDIO352/452
A wide variety of Scan to functions are supported. No special application is required for utilizing the Scan to functions. (Most of the functions can be controlled on the Web-based TopAccess utility.) The easy-to-use, user-friendly template function is applicable for a wide range of business solutions, because it helps to maximize working efficiency in routine works. IPX protocols have become available for the Scan to function from this e-STUDIO series, which offers users a broader selection of protocols.
iR 3570/4570
A wide variety of Scan to functions are supported. But the private folder and the template feature are not as sophisticated as the ones the e-STUDIO series provides. The full-color Touch Panel provides high viewability. But the icons are so narrow, and the layout is so complex that the user may press a wrong icon unintentionally. A large number of steps are required to complete the desired function. This also requires the user to flip the screens over and over again. Only the System data or scanned-in document, which has been stored in the Box using the Send tab, can be transferred to other destinations, but, the one stored using the Mail Box tab cannot be. This inconsistency in the operation may significantly confuse the user.
The e-STUDIO series allows the user to create a folder in the Box. This facilitates managing documents in detail, particularly in a department basis, and increases searchability. A document stored in the Box can be merged with another or inserted into other documents using the Web-based TopAccess utility. The Box function is useful as a simple document management tool. The e-STUDIO series can email data stored in a Box from this model.
The iR 3570/4570 provides the Box to functions in variety, but a large number of steps are required to complete the operations. The iR 3570/4570 can resend data in a Box in Send/FAX mode or in Box mode. (The conventional model was not able to resend stored data in Box mode.) There are 200 Mail Boxes but no folders can be created in each Mail Box.
The Ricoh Aficio series does not have a concept of Box. All scanned-in documents are stored on the hard disk. In other words, the storage area is not partitioned on a Box-by-Box basis. As a result, the user takes the trouble to add a data attribute by file name, user name, and password. This increases the time required to retrieve the target document. The documents stored in the Box using the SCANNER Key cannot be printed out. This may significantly confuse the user.
Not all printer drivers can store a print job to a Confidential Box of the DC 350 I/450 I. ( The ART-EX printer driver can, while the PS3 printer driver cannot.) Resend of data stored in a Confidential Box cannot be performed by an usual operation of the control panel. The Job Flow Sheet, a standard delivery function, must be pre-assigned to a target Confidential Box. (Different from the ApeosPort 350 I/450 I series, only Box to Print is available for the DocuCentre 350 I/450 I series. )
Summary (3/3) bizhub 3510/3010
The Box function is not available without the optional hard disk.
A Box can be created or edited through the operations on the Web-based utility, but not on the Control Panel. The documents stored in the Box cannot be printed out in an immediate manner. There is no function to resend data stored in a Box.
The reuse function of the data preserved in Box has been enhanced. ( Box to Print / File / Email / Internet FAX / FAX ) The data preserved in Box cannot be transmit by selecting the plural. This is a factor to lower the efficiency of work. In the Box to File(PC)", we have to install the application in Client PC of the destination. The application is stored in the scanner kit of the option. The kit offer only ten licenses.

Density contrast and detailness
Canon iR 3570/4570 and Ricoh Aficio 2035/2045 produce artificial contours in the shaded area of the arm, which is not natural and fatal to photographic reproducibility. Ricoh Aficio 2035/2045 does not reproduce the highlighted area from the shin to the chest, thus the image does not give a three-dimensional appearance. Reproducibility of Fuji Xerox DC 350 I/450 I, Konica Minolta bizhub 350 and e-STUDIO352/452 is good in terms of texture images and detailness of photographic, and graininess of halftone, showing a good result.
