Sharp Network Device Installation (printers and copiers) Windows 2000, XP, 2003 (includes Windows 98/Me client)
Installing a network printer is a fairly straight-forward process in these Windows versions. If you have ever installed a TCP/IP port for printing, it is the same procedure for most of the Sharp models with the exception of the listener. This is explained in the following setup procedure. Additionally, it is assumed that the Sharp copier/printer/multifunction device is configured for network printing (i.e. Network card is installed, IP address is configured, etc.) This scenario assumes a client /server setup where the printer is installed on the server and shared. Well start with the server first. If you are not using a server, the steps are the same for 2k and XP systems just omit the sharing and permissions section. 1. Log-in as administrator or user with appropriate permissions. 2. Click Start, Settings, Printers and Faxes (or go through Control Panel/Printers and Faxes). 3. Click Add Printer and Next select Local Printer and Uncheck the Automatically detect (remember, were at the server so this is Local) 4. Click Next and select the Create Port radio button and select Standard TCP/IP Port from the drop-down. (see graphic below)
5. Click Next and Next and type in the IP address of the Sharp network device in the first block. You will notice the second block is automatically filled in for you as you type with the letters IP_ in front of the IP address. This is normal and acceptable. (see graphic on next page).
6. Click Next and select the Custom radio button and then click Settings (see graphic).
7. The IP address and printer name boxes will be filled-in already. Click the LPR radio button (This will be set to RAW by default) and type-in lp (that is lp ((lema paul)) not ip. This must be lower-case, without the quotes) in the LPR Settings Queue Name box. Also click the Enable LPR Byte Counting radio button. This will allow for some error correction while printing. (see graphic on next page)
8. Click OK, Next, Finish. Now, select Have Disk from the driver selection menu and browse to the directory of the printer driver. If you downloaded the driver from our site then you should have already unzipped the file to a directory. Choose the appropriate directory and file (OS choice). If you are using an original Sharp CD, choose the English A (or English if theres no English A folder). Choose the appropriate model number, click Next, change the name if you wish or leave as default, click Next and click the Share Name radio button and type a name for the printer (i.e. Sharp_M550) Next, Next (click No to the test page) Next and Finish. If the Microsoft Digital Signature message is displayed, click Continue. The shared printer will be created at this point but, youre not quite through. 9. Browse to your Printers and Faxes folder again and Right Click on the new printer and select Properties. Click the Configuration tab and configure the options for your printer (i.e. Finisher, Paper Drawers, etc.) As you click these options, you will notice the graphic change with each selection. When complete, select Apply and OK. 10. If you need to share this device with Windows 98/Me clients, right click the printer again and select the Sharing tab. Click the Additional Drivers tab and choose the appropriate client OSs. The Wizard will guide you through the process and prompt for a location of the drivers. Make sure to choose the correct driver for the OS you chose in the previous screen. See graphic on next page.
11. Consider allowing full permissions from the Security tab of the printer properties. Users will then be able to select different output trays and paper types from their workstations. We are now ready to install the printer to the client workstation 1. From the client, double click My Network Places (Me, XP, 2000) or Network Neighborhood (98) or use relative path i.e. \\servername\sharename, to access the printer. Double click the printer and the printer and driver will be installed on the client computer. If the server is 2k or 2003, the configuration you performed in the previous steps will also be passed down to the client. If the client is 98 or Me, you will have to go into the properties of the printer on the client and manually configure the options (paper drawers, output trays, etc.). 2. Complete these steps on the remaining clients. This completes the client/server network printer installation for 2K, XP and 2003.
Windows 98 Direct Network Printing
In Windows 98, there is no native way to create a standard TCP/IP printing port. There is software, however, that will accomplish this task for you. Use this method for printing directly to a network printer using Win98 or Me. Download the SC Print 2000 software from our website (www.cbesc.com and click the Downloads link). After successfully downloading and unzipping the file, run Setup.exe and follow the instructions listed in the next section.
Procedure: 1. Insert the CD-ROM with the AR-NC5J software into the computer CD-ROM drive, or b rowse to the location if it shared on the network. Sharp's Authentic Security Solution
Data Security Kit*
Whenever pages are printed, copied, scanned or faxed, your digital device retains data in its internal memory. With your data stored in this way, it is vulnerable to being retrieved by unauthorised personnel. To prevent such risks to your valuable information, Sharp has developed a solution: the risk-free, high-security system of the AR-M350 with the optional Data Security Kit installed. This system automatically encrypts and erases from the internal memory the temporary document data generated for each print, copy, network scan or fax job. This helps protect your confidential information from even the most sophisticated threats. An essential utility, recommended to all those who handle sensitive information.
Award-Winning Multifunction Products
IP/MAC Address Filtering
The optional AR-NC5J print server card prevents access by unauthorized users and keeps confidential information safe while you are printing via the network. Only users with registered IP (Internet Protocol) or MAC (Media Access Control) addresses can access the AR-M350.
* When the Data Security Kit is installed, some functions may not be available. Please refer to the footnotes marked "**" (on pages 5 and 7) for more information.

FAX*1**4
Faxing Has Never Been Easier
For the ultimate document all-rounder, top the AR-M350 off with fax functionality. Installing the optional Fax Expansion Kit enhances efficiency in your office by enabling PC-Fax functionality and Super G3 fax transmission. The versatile AR-M350 also supports the ITU-T F-Code standard and offers you a host of convenient functions. Enjoy smooth fax operation, thanks to such easy-to-use functions as duplex document faxing and one-touch dialling.
Lightning-Fast, High-Quality Faxing
High- Speed Fax Transmission
The AR-M350s high-speed Super G3 fax transmission formula allows you to send documents twice as fast as with the conventional G3 formula. And transmission times are faster still, thanks to the high-rate JBIG compression method. An A4 size (8 1/2 x 11) document, for example, can be sent speedily within three seconds*. The AR-M350s high-speed transmission makes long distance or large volume faxing far more economical.
* Based on ITU-T test chart No. 1 at standard resolution. Data transmission time only, not including protocol transmission time.
Duplex Fax Transmission/Reception
Take your double-sided document, place it in the DSPF and it will automatically , scan both sides in a single pass. Theres no need for either manual re-scanning or a reversing circuit: the DSPF lets you fax a double-sided A4 Portrait (8 1/2 x 11) in approximately 2 seconds at standard resolution. Of course, the AR-M350 doesnt just send double-sided faxes, it also receives them.
AR-M350 AR-M350
Duplex Fax
Quick On-Line Transmission
Upon scanning the first page of your document through the optional Duplex Single Pass Feeder (DSPF), the AR-M350 starts dialling the fax destination immediately. Transmission begins while the remaining pages are being scanned, giving you much faster overall transmission times.
[NB] Quick on-line transmission is only possible if there are no other jobs waiting to be processed.
Fax Transaction Report**2
To help you keep track of your fax transmission status, the AR-M350 can print a transaction report with each fax job. Three settings are available, so you can have a transaction report either for each time you send, or for unsuccessful transactions only, or not at all. An additional preset lets you display on the report an image of the first page of the original document.
Supports F-Code Standard
Conforming to the ITU-T F-Code standard, the AR-M350 enables relay broadcasting and confidential transmission with other F-Code supporting machines even those made by other manufacturers. Fax machines that support F-Code communication allow you to create up to 100 Memory Boxes and set a sub-address and pass code for each of them ideal for protecting confidential information during transmission and reception.

Built-In Flash Memory
The AR-M350 comes equipped with 2MB of Flash Memory. This acts as an automatic back-up, storing the equivalent of up to 100 pages of A4 size (8 1/2 x 11) paper*. Even if there is a sudden power cut, for example, your scanned data is preserved in the memory. The optional Fax Memory allows you to extend the Flash Memory up to 10MB.
* Based on ITU-T test chart No. 1 at standard resolution.
