The warming plate 11 becomes hot, do not touch. Do not place fingers in the capsule cage 24.

The nozzle for hot water/steam 15 and the CAPPUCCINO/CAFFELATTEfrothing device 14 become very hot. Take hold of the nozzles by the plastic part only and not by the metal parts. Never leave the appliance unattended while it is switched on!
Important information
- Fill the water tank 9 with fresh, cold water only and change daily. - Use NESPRESSORcapsules only. Other objects may damage the appliance. - Use undamaged NESPRESSORcapsules only. Deformed or torn capsules may stick in the appliance and damage it. To prevent frost damage during transportation and storage, completely empty the appliance beforehand. S Switch on the appliance, all four buttons light up. S Remove and empty the water tank 9. S Press button 2. S Wait until only buttons 1 and 2 are lit constantly. S Press button 2 again. S Wait until the appliance stops pumping. S Pour the remaining water out of the drip tray 16 and switch off the appliance with the mains switch 19.
Frost protection:
Press the 1 button. The appliance now heats up. During the heating up time, 1 flashes. When all four buttons button , , and are lit, the operating temperature has been reached. Rinse the appliance without NESPRESSO Rcapsule. Place an adequately large receptacle under the coffee 8. outlet 21 and press button Repeat the process 4 x. Empty the receptacle and place under the frothing device 14. Push the lever 4 forwards and draw approx. 0,5 l water. The appliance is now ready to use.
Making coffee
Tip: To ensure a successful espresso coffee, prewarm the cups on the warming plate 11 or fill the cups with hot water and rinse out. The appliance must be switched on. All 4 buttons light up. S Open the upper section 5 with the catch 22. S Place NESPRESSORcapsule with the membrane face down on the capsule support 23 (see Fig. 2). S Close the upper section 5 with the catch 22. S Place one of the enclosed cups, prewarmed, under the coffee outlet 21. S Press button 7 or button 8 depending on the cup size. The cup is filled. The coffee outlet stops automatically when the programmed amount has run through.
NESPRESSO Rcapsules
Use only NESPRESSORcapsules for this appliance. They are available in different flavours. Order address: NESPRESSORClub, www.nespresso.com
Before using your appliance for the first time
Switching on the appliance S Reinsert the mains plug. S Set mains switch 19 to I. S
When the catch 22 is opened, the capsule is automatically conveyed into the capsule container 20.

Permanently changing the amount of liquid
The preset amount for a small or large cup can be changed. S Press button 7 or button 8 until the required amount of coffee has run through.
Warning: The appliance now remains in steam mode for approx. 1 minute. Approx. 1 min. after steam has been drawn, the appliance cools down by intermittently drawing off steam into the drip tray 16. Coffee can now be brewed again. The coolingdown process can be 2. accelerated by pressing button As soon as the appliance has cooled down, clean the nozzle 15. Dried residue is difficult to remove. See the chapter on Care and daily cleaning".
The amount can be changed again at any time.
Preparing hot water
Hot water can be prepared with this function, e.g. for a cup of tea.
d Risk of burns
The nozzle becomes very hot, take hold of the nozzle by the plastic part only. S Screw the nozzle 15 onto the adapter 13 of the steam pipe 12 (Fig. 3). S Hold a glass or a cup under the nozzle 15. S Push the lever 4 forwards. Hot water runs out of the nozzle 15. S To stop the hot water, pull back the lever 4.
Preparing milk froth
Frothing or heating milk

The steam is very hot. Touch the frothing device by the plastic part only. S Firmly fit together the frothing device for CAPPUCCINO/CAFFELATTE 14 (Fig. 5/a). There must be no gaps. S Connect the frothing device 14 firmly to the adapter 13 on the steam pipe 12 (Fig. 5/b). S Immerse the hose into a vessel containing milk. S Move the selector on the frothing device 14 to CAPPUCCINO (milk froth) or CAFFELATTE (hot milk). S Place a cup or a glass under the nozzle of the frothing device 14. S Press button 2. 1 The appliance now heats up, button 1 and 2 light up, flashes. When buttons steam can be drawn. S Push the lever 4 forwards (Fig. 4). The milk is drawn in, heated and frothed. S To end the process, pull back the lever 4. The appliance steams briefly.
Heating liquids with steam
Steam is very hot. It may cause the liquid to splash. S Screw the nozzle 15 onto the adapter 13 of the steam pipe 12 (Fig. 3). S Press button 2. 1 The appliance now heats up, button 1 and button 2 flashes. When button light up, steam can be drawn. S Immerse the nozzle 15 deep into the liquid, but do not touch the bottom of the vessel. S Push the lever 4 forwards (Fig. 4). S Slowly rotate the vessel. The liquid is heated. S When the liquid is hot, pull back the lever 4. The appliance steams briefly.

The coolingdown process can be 2. accelerated by pressing button Tip: The milk froth and the temperature of the milk in the CAPPUCCINO range can be varied by slightly rotating the selector on the frothing device 14. The temperature in the CAFFELATTE range can be affected by rotating the selector (Fig. 5/c). Use cold semiskimmed milk preferably.
The acoustic signal sounds 3 x:
The capsule container 20 is full. S Pull the drip tray 16 forwards. S Empty the capsule container 20. S Reinsert the drip tray 16 and capsule container 20.
Float 18 rises.
During the rinsing process and when coffee is being made, a little water runs into the drip tray 16. When the tray is full, the float 18 rises. S Pull the drip tray 16 forwards. S Remove the capsule container 20. S Empty the drip tray 16 and rinse with a little detergent solution. S Place the capsule container 20 on the 16 drip tray and reinsert.
Immediately clean the frothing device for CAPPUCCINO/ CAFFELATTE 14 as soon as it has cooled down. Dried residue is difficult to remove. See the chapter on Care and daily cleaning".
Care and daily cleaning
Before cleaning the appliance, pull out the mains plug. Never immerse the appliance in water. Do not use a steam cleaner. S Rinse all loose parts by hand only. S Operate (rinse) the appliance 23 x a day without NESPRESSORcapsules. S Wipe the housing with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaning agents. S Rinse out the water tank 9 with water only. S Pull the drip tray 16 and capsule container 20 forwards. Clean everything with a mild detergent solution. When reinserting the tray and container, ensure that the parts are correctly positioned with respect to each other.
A cappuccino consists of one third espresso, hot milk and milk froth. S First prepare the milk froth and fill a large cup approx. full. S Then place the cup under the coffee outlet and draw the espresso. S Finally sprinkle a little cocoa powder over the cappuccino.
Optical and acoustic messages
Indicator light 3 flashes
The drip tray 16 is missing or has not been inserted correctly. S Insert drip tray 16 correctly. 7 or button 8, Despite pressing button coffee does not flow out: the temperature is too high or too low. S Wait briefly and try again.
The acoustic signal sounds 1 x:

CAPPUCCINO/CAFFELATTE Frothing device 14
The individual parts of the CAPPUCCINO/CAFFELATTE frothing device 14 must always be clean. Even the smallest amount of milk residue will impair the frothing result. Therefore, after using the frothing device 14, always rinse immediately with water. To do this: S Insert the hose in a vessel filled with cold water. S Place a second vessel under the outlet of the frothing device 14. S Move the selector to CAFFELATTE. S Press button 2. 1 The appliance now heats up, button 1 and button 2 flashes. When button light up, steam can be drawn. S Push the lever 4 forwards. S Rinse the frothing device 14 for approx. ten seconds. S Pull back the lever 4. Depending on use, the CAPPUCCINO/ CAFFELATTE frothing device 14 should be dismantled and cleaned at least once a week. S Pull the frothing device 14 down off the steam pipe 12 (Fig. 5/b). S Dismantle the frothing device 14 (Fig. 5/a). S Clean the individual parts carefully with a detergent solution. S Rinse all parts with clear water and dry.
Descaling the appliance

Descale the appliance according to the following instructions, otherwise the appliance may be damaged. Use only descaler which can be ordered from customer service (customer service mat. no.: 31 0748) or from the NESPRESSOR club.
Attention!
Never descale the appliance with vinegar, vinegar-based agents or other descaling agents! Never interrupt the descaling programme. Never drink the liquid.
Descaling programme
The descaling programme lasts approx. 20 minutes. S Open upper section 5 to remove the capsule. S Empty and reinsert drip tray 16 and capsule container 20. S Remove the nozzle 15 or frothing device 14. S Unscrew the adapter 13. S Place an adequately large vessel with a spout under the coffee outlet 21 and ensure that the steam pipe 12 is also over the vessel. S Mix 100 ml NESPRESSOR descaling agent with 500 ml water and pour into the empty water tank 9.
Switch on the appliance with button 1 and wait until all four buttons 1, 2, 7 and 8 light up. Simultaneously hold down button 7 and 8 for at least 3 sec. button The programme starts, the descaling liquid flows for a brief period automatically at intervals from inside the appliance into the 1 is lit. drip tray 16. Simultaneously hold down button 7 and 8 for at least 3 sec. button The programme starts, the descaling liquid flows for a brief period automatically at intervals from inside the appliance into the drip tray 16. Press button 8 and wait until the liquid has run through. Repeat the process until the tank is empty. Press button 1 lamp 1 is still lit. Empty the vessel, the water tank 9 and the drip tray 16 and rinse with plenty of water. Fill the water tank 9 with fresh water and reinsert all parts. Place the vessel under the coffee outlet 21 and the steam pipe 12 over the vessel. Switch on the appliance with button 1 and wait until all four buttons light up again. Press button 8 and wait until the liquid has run through. Repeat the process until the tank is half empty.
Empty the vessel. Push the lever 4 forwards and empty the remaining liquid out of the water tank 9 through the steam pipe 12 into the vessel. When the tank is empty, the pump switches off. S Push back the lever 4 and press button 1, light 1 is still lit. S Empty, clean and reinsert the drip tray 16 and capsule container 20. The descaling programme has ended. S Wipe the outside of the appliance with a damp cloth.
What to do in the event of a fault?
The appliance is not functioning.

Check whether there has been a power failure or the mains plug has been pulled out. The nozzle 15 is blocked. Clean the nozzle with a detergent solution and a blunt needle. The CAPPUCCINO/CAFFELATTE frothing device 14 is blocked. Clean the frothing device 14 with a mild detergent solution. Use cold, semiskimmed milk for frothing.
Hot water or steam cannot be drawn.
Milk froth is too little or too runny.
Water is dripping or running out of the steam pipe 12
Move the hot water/steam lever 4 all the way back. If water continues dripping, descale the appliance.
Indicator light flashes or an acoustic signal sounds.

Capsule is not conveyed into the capsule container 20 or the coffee is too watery.
