The advantages of a modern internal privacy and sun protection system become even more effective with an electric drive unit and an intelligent control. Roller blinds, pleated blinds and Venetian blinds with electric drives from SOMFY offer the user even greater convenience, reliability and safety. The use of the safe extra-low voltage of 24 V is a major contributing factor to the operational reliability and safety of the system. It is only by using 24 V drive units that relatively big and heavy systems can be compactly and inobtrusively motorised. The drives can be integrated into the smallest top tracks and profiles.
When planning the installation, it is however necessary to pay attention to the cable length and conductor cross-section in order to avoid excessive voltage losses. Therefore please pay attention to the maximum distances between the transformer and the drive unit that is furthest away from it.
In the following overview you can easily determine the maximum cable lengths. These depend on: The number of drive units connected to one transformer The type of the connected drive unit (e. g. roller blind drive LT 28 or the Concept 25 Venetian blind drive that is used depending on the size of the Venetian blind The conductor cross-section (e. g. 0.75 mm 2 )

6 Venetian blinds with drive units are connected to the transformer [T ]. The Venetian blind area is in each case 2 m2 (therefore drive type LV 44).

Single control

Customers need: A blind should be controlled separate. Solution: Just 1 motor is mounted on the control spot.

Small group control

Customers need: Several blinds should be controlled in common as a small group. E. g. 3 blinds in a bay window. Solution: Several blinds are mounted directly on the control spot. Thereby note the max. number of motors per control spot.

Group control

GPS 1020

Netz 230 V / 50 Hz
Customers need: More than 4 blinds should be controlled as a group. Single control is not required. Solution: Application of the group control GPS 1020 where all the motors are mounted to. The control happens over connected push button or automatic device.

Central control

Customers need: All blinds should be controlled by the control spot. This could happen via push button or automatic device. Central control happens if neccessary additional to the single-, small group-, or group control. Solution: The appropriated control devices are triggered by a central control spot.

Remote control

Customers need: The blinds should be triggered by a hand transmitter. Solution: Application of a IR-receiver and transmitter.

Solar automatic

Customers need: It should also be possible to open and close the systems automatically when nobody is there depending on the incident sunshine or depending on shadow or twilight. Solution: Application of the solar automatic. Customers need: It should also be possible to open and close the systems automatically according to a weekly programme or depending on the times of sunrise and sunset. Solution: Application of the program time control.

Program time control

Power supply
Power supply units generate the 24 V DC required for the drives from the 230 V line voltage. The number of drives that can be supplied from one power supply unit is limited. Please see the corresponding planning examples for details. These are data on the recommended cable cross-section. E. g. 2 x 0.75 means: Cable consisting of 2 cores, each with a cross-section of 0.75 mm2.
