d.MOTOR END FITTING. - Three possible ways of fixing the motor head:
With 2 screws directly on the head
With a square shaft 10 mm rf. 9147334
With a flat <LO> bracket ref. 9147337
e.INSTALLING THE MOTORISED TUBE Note: Install the motor bracket on the same side as the power supply. - Fit the brackets, but do not tighten them. - Fit the plug end bracket over the plug end. - Ensure that the tube is horizontal using a spirit leveller. - Tighten the brackets once it is level. f. WIRING RECOMMENDATIONS The Electrical Supply Regulations 1988 give an Electricity Board the right to refuse to supply, or continue the supply to, a consumers installation which is not safe or which may cause interference with the supply to others. a. PREPARING THE TUBE - Cut the tube to the required length, taking into account the width of the installation, the width of the head of the motor, the type of plug end and the size of the plug end bracket. - Deburr the ends of the tube & ensure that the inside of the tube is clean. - For all tube sizes up to & including 85mm diameter, cut a slot in the motor end of the tube to the dimensions shown. - For all tube sizes over 85mm you must form a tongue in the motor end of the tube by making two cuts 25mm apart & 20mm deep. - Fit the plug end into the other end of the tube & secure using 4 steel pop rivets.
b. PREPARING THE TUBULAR MOTOR
1. Place the crown wheel over the body of the motor. Slide the
slot in the crown wheel over the raised key on the motors limit switch unit. A crown wheel is not necessary on 63mm round tubes. 2. Fit the drive wheel onto the output shaft of the motor.* *NB: there are two ways of attaching the drive wheel REMOVABLE - Two of the five internal faces of the drive wheel have grooves. Position these two grooves over the clips of the output shaft. Slide the wheel over the clips until they lock on the lip of the drive wheel. The drive wheel can be removed by physically pulling it off.` FIXED - Position two of the internal faces without grooves over the clips on the output shaft. Slide the drive wheel over the clips until they lock on the lip of the drive wheel. The drive wheel can only be removed by unhooking the two clips from the lip & then removing it.
c. FITTING THE MOTOR INTO THE TUBE For round tubes: - Measure the drilling length. - Fit the motor into the tube ensuring that the slot in the end of the tube slides over the key on the crown wheel. For tube sizes over 85mm diameter tap the tongue in the end of the tube into the recess in the outside diameter of the crown wheel. Secure the drive wheel to the tube using 4 x 5mm steel pop rivets or 4 x M6 countersunk screws.
d. SUPPLY CABLE OUTPUT AXIAL OUTPUT Route the supply cable through the centre hole of the motor bracket. RADIAL OUTPUT Route the supply cable through the groove in the motor head. MOUNTING A MOTORISED TUBE WITH A STANDARD PLUG END Slide the motor head into the motor end bracket and secure with the spring clip. Fit the plug end bracket over the plug end. Ensure the tube is horizontal & tighten the brackets.
e. WIRING RECOMMENDATIONS The Electrical Supply Regulations 1988 give an Electricity Board the right to refuse to supply, or continue the supply to, a consumers installation which is not safe or which may cause interference with the supply to others. The Electricity Supply Regulations accept Regulations comply with all safety requirements. All electrical installations are governed by the IEE wiring regulations (16th edition).
Do not use light switches. Do not wire two or more switches to one motor, without using relays approved by SOMFY.
f. LIMIT SWITCH SETTING SOMFY recommend using a test cable to set the motor limits, and to ensure the system is operating correctly before the final electrical connection is made. Two positions have to be set: the UP & DOWN positions, this is where the rolling shutter or awning will stop automatically. Sequence: 1. Ensure the switch is in the OFF position
2. up position
Remove the protective cap from head of motor
3. Depress fully both limit switch push buttons. They will auto-
matically lock in the down position. Operate the switch and check that the system operates correctly. If not put the switch to the off position, reverse the black & brown motor direction wires and try again.
down position
Identify the UP limit switch push button. Press the switch to the up direction until the required position is reached and put the switch in the off position Unlock the UP limit switch push button by depressing and releasing it Repeat the above operation to set the lower limit
BROWN WIRE
BLACK WIRE
7. Check with the switch that the motor stops at the up & down position just set 8.
Refit the protective cap. NOTE: Tubular motors are not continuously rated. They have a built-in thermal overload device which limits their operation to approximately 4 minutes.
f. TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE NOTHING WORKS - Is the power supply switched on - check any fuses in the system? - Is control switch wired correctly? Refer to instructions. - Are limit switches set properly? Review limit switch settings. - The thermal protective device may have shut the motor off. Wait for the motor to cool down. - Check the wiring between the motor & the switch. - Disconnect the switch & test the motor with a test cable. THE SYSTEM IS NOT STOPPING - Is the limit switch crown wheel being driven by the tube (has tube profile been properly notched)? -Is motor drive wheel securely fastened to the tube. NB: if the motor is tested outside the tube, the crown wheel has to be manually turned in order to stop the rotation of the output shaft.
2.4 RECOMMENDATIONS
OCTOGONAL TUBES:
TO CHECK THE COMPATIBILITY OF A TUBE WITH CTS40, PLEASE USE THE ATTACHED DRAWINGS. THE DEPRAT TUBE 40 X 0,6 IS COMPATIBLE WITH CTS40, THE DEPRAT 40X 0,8 IS NOT COMPATIBLE.
FOR A GOOD TILTING:
LEAVE THE CORD SLACK IN DOWN LIMIT AND THE LOAD BAR BORNE BY THE LADDERBRAIDS. DO NOT FORGET TO PUT THE LADDERBRAIDS SLAT CLIPS. THE LADDERBRAIDS IS IMPORTANT. TO USE TOO THIN LADDERBRAIDS CAN CAUSE PROBLEMS.
FOR A GOOD LIFTING:
THE DIAMETER AND THE QUALITY OF THE LIFTING CORDS ARE VERY IMPORTANT. OUR TESTS HAVE BEEN CARRIED OUT WITH CORDS FROM JULIUS KOCH AND NIBROL. IN DOWN POSITION THE CORD MUST NOT MAKE ANY DEAD TURNS. TAKE CARE, DURING ASSEMBLY, NOT TO SCRATCH THE CONE FOR INSTANCE WITH A SCREWDRIVER. IN ORDER NOT TO WEAR QUICKLY THE CORDS, THE SLAT PUNCHES MUST BE OF GOOD QUALITY AND OF ADAPTED DIMENSIONS. PRIOR TO ASSEMBLY UNTWIST THE CORDS. TO BE 100% OF THE GOOD HORIZONTABILITY OF THE LOAD BAR AVOID TO MIX CONES FROM DIFFERENT BATCHES ON THE SAME BLIND. WE GUARANTY THE GOOD WORKING OF CTS40 ONLY WHEN THE HEADRAIL IS HORIZONTAL.
ASSEMBLY:
TO LIMIT FRICTION LEAVE A LARGE ENOUGH GAP BETWEEN PLUG END AND BRACKET. TO TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THE CORD DIMENSIONAL CHANGES, DO NOT STACK THE SLATS COMPLETELY. SET THE UP LIMIT AT 25 MM FROM THE HEADRAIL.
TRANSPORTATION:
THE BLINDS MUST BE DISPATCHED RETRACTED. ONCE FITTED, IN ORDER TO SUPPRESS ANY OVERLAPPING OF THE CORD, DRIVE THE BLINDS IN DOWN POSITION. IN ORDER TO CANCEL THE CORD OVERLAPPING, THE STACKS OF SLATS MUST BE CAREFULLY PACKED. (SEE ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS)
ORDERS:
THE CONES AND BEARING CAN ONLY BE ORDERED AND SHIPPED IN BOXES OF 50 PIECES. MINIMUM LENGHT OF HEADRAIL WITH LS 40 + CTS 40: X MM

MAXIMUM DIMENSION OF BLINDS
page 74
5.1 LIFTING CAPACITY & MAXIMUM DIMENSIONS OF BLINDS
You will find on page 13 to 16 charts giving the maximum dimensions of blinds you can motorize with the different LS 40 / LT 50 motors. These maximum dimensions are worked out in the following way. Radius 1. The lifting capacity of a motor is given by its torque Torque = Load (Newton) x Radius (metre) 1 Kg 10 N Example: With Mercure which is 4 Nm you can lift in theory on a diameter of 40 mm (radius 20 mm or 0,02 m) 20 kg (4 Nm / 0,02 m = 200N 20 Kg) F LOAD 2. Venetian, Roman and Austrian blinds 2.1 Maximum diameter. 2.1.1 Blinds with lifting cords and equipped with CTS. For these blinds the diameter to consider is the diameter of the cone ( 20 mm ) plus the thickness of the lifting cord: 1.4 mm. Radius = (47 + 1.4)/2 = 24.2 mm. 2.1.2 Blinds with tapes For these blinds the maximum diameter to consider is the diameter of the tape reel when the blind is retracted. This diameter depends on the initial diameter of the take up reel and on the thickness of tape. 2.2 Weight and maximum dimensions. The weight to consider is the weight on the cords or tapes when the blind is retracted, this is the weight of the fabric or slats plus the weight of the bottom bar. 3. Roller blinds In some cases the diameter to consider is the diameter of the rolling tube when the blind is down. The weight to take into account is the weight of the blind when it is down i.e. total weight of fabric and bottom bar. But according to the height of the blinds, the thickness of the fabric and the weight of the bottom bar the maximum torque is not reached at the down position of the blind but after several turns in the up direction. 4. Friction Last important point to take into account is friction: - friction between cord and fabric or slats, - friction in bearing, - friction in guides.
