Front Auxiliary Input

Selected Sony head units feature a front auxiliary input. Simply plug your portable music player straight into the front of the faceplate using the supplied cable and off you go. No extra adaptors, no batteries, no loss of music quality, no extra cost. How easy is that?!
Portable Music Player Tray GMD700
If youre looking for a simple 2-DIN solution, then consider the GMD700 tray. The onboard 3.5mm Mini Jack-to-RCA cable facilitates easy connection between your portable music player and any Sony head-unit that is equipped with a Aux-In-Lite / rear auxiliary input. Simply plug your portable music player straight in and hide it away!

Aux-In-Lite

If youre looking for a more permanent connection, selected Sony head-units feature a rear auxiliary RCA input (Aux-In-Lite) providing a direct feed for music sources such as Sonys GMD700 Portable Music Player Tray or even audio from an in-car DVD player.

CONNECTS2HDD

The CONNECTS2HDD interface takes advantage of Sonys exclusive Uni-Link bus system making it possible to adapt selected Sony portable music players* straight into any Sony head-unit equipped with CD/MD changer control. CONNECTS2HDD gives you the ability to control your portable music player straight from the head unit, while displaying details such as artist and album name on the face plate to help you identify your favourite music tracks.

HEAD UNIT The Giga Panel

Sonys MEX-1GP CD head-unit features an inbuilt 1 GB flash memory integrated into the face plate, allowing you to store up to 500 songs. Simply detach the face plate from the head unit and connect it to your PC with the supplied USB cable. Music files be it MP3 or WMA are transferred by drag and drop without the need for any special software or music management application. It doesnt get any simpler than that! Being a flash based technology with no moving components, Sonys Giga Panel guarantees skip free music to your ears.

Sonys key objective is to deliver the best possible starting point for a great performing sound system. Thats why Sony continues with the DRIVE-S chassis in its 2006 CD head-unit range. DRIVE-S fuses a slim, robust mechanism and efficient electronic circuitry to deliver the best sound quality and durability from CD head-units. The result is greater shock protection, rapid response, and superior audio processing for an uninterrupted sonic experience. The DRIVE-S shock-resistant system comprises of 3 progressively-wound springs coupled with inner silicon-filled dampers. The CD mechanism is supported at three points for optimum stability, ensuring that shocks and bumps are absorbed to provide uninterrupted skip free music.

S-MOSFET

An underpowered amplifier can often result in distortion, which not only degrades audio quality but is the main contributor to blown speakers. In order to overcome this problem, every DRIVE-S head-unit features a high-powered S-MOSFET amplifier, capable of delivering a combined power of up to 208 Watts (max). Unlike conventional MOSFETs, SMOSFET features a unique technology called SOI (silicon on insulator) and its primary function is to reduce interference that normally occurs between audio channels. In doing so, SOI ensures that the music signal is as clean as possible before it reaches your speakers for maximum sound quality.

HEAD UNIT Zone by Zone

Selected Sony CD/DVD source-units now incorporate Zone by Zone technology. With the push of a button, Zone by Zone divides your vehicle into two separate entertainment zones; front-seat passengers can listen to their favourite radio stations or CD tracks (via CD changer) through the main speaker system, while the backseat passengers can enjoy the latest DVD blockbusters through wireless headphones. Its great for families on long trips and the kids in the back seats can watch their favourite movie while, up front, their parents listen to music.

VISUAL IPS (In Plane Switching)
The car is a challenging environment for any visual display device. Ambient light can affect screen colour, brightness and contrast, consequently limiting the viewing angle and image quality. In order to overcome these inherent challenges, Sony uses In Plane Switching (IPS) technology in its latest generation of in-dash active TFT liquid crystal displays. In IPS technology, the switching electrodes responsible for controlling the liquid crystal orientation are mounted on the same plane. When an electrical signal is applied, this unique structure causes the liquid crystals to align horizontally, enabling the backlight to splay out in a wide angle. This provides a marked improvement in contrast over older TFT technologies, where the liquid

AMPLIFIER Stream

The Stream series is Sonys premium range of car entertainment amplifiers. Each amplifier incorporates these key features.
Large Toroidal Power Transformer and Choke Coils
High-powered systems can often put a strain on an amplifiers power supply circuit. This is no problem for Sonys latest range of Stream amplifiers. Each Stream amplifier uses a large doublewound toroidal power transformer and choke coils to ensure stable operation. The heavy-duty double-wound construction ensures that they are capable of delivering high current when the system demands it. Each coil is isolated to supply power to different stages within the amplifier, resulting in greater stability and uninterrupted audio reproduction during peak current demands.
Aluminium Plate and On Board Heat Sink
Heat not only can affect stability, but also have an adverse effect on the long-term reliability of an amplifier. For this reason, each output transistor is mounted onto a specially constructed diecast aluminium heat sink. A layer of thermal compound grease is applied to each transistor before being secured in place with an aluminium plate. The diecast aluminium heat sink is designed with a large surface area to facilitate maximum heat dissipation.
Large Gauge, Gold-Plated Terminals
Large gauge terminals are featured on Stream amplifiers because of their low impedance characteristics and high electrical current handling capabilities. Each terminal is gold plated to eliminate oxidisation and enhance conductivity.

Multiple MOSFETs

MOSFETs are the final output stage of the amplifier and are responsible for driving the speakers. Having multiple MOSFETs significantly increases current flow, which dramatically improves the power handling capabilities of the amplifier.

SPEAKERS HOP
Finding the perfect material for speaker cones is an ongoing quest in speaker design. Exclusive to Sonys speaker range are cones in a high-tech polymer called high oriented polyolefine, or HOP. What makes HOP remarkable is its ability to remain rigid and light. To properly perform its function, a speaker cone must balance three fundamental properties: (a) it must remain rigid throughout operation to avoid distortion caused by cone flex (b) it must be well-damped, so it doesnt produce any sounds of its own, outside those sent to it from the amplifier for reproduction, and (c) it must be relatively light, so it can respond quickly enough to accurately reproduce sound waves and transients. Weight is particularly important when reproducing small, quick waveforms, such as mid-range and high frequencies. Unlike conventional materials such as polypropylene, the crystalline strands in HOP are aligned to an almost perfect parallel orientation. The parallel strands strengthen the cone surface to minimise any flexing. This breakthrough technology allows for many more benefits over conventional speaker cone materials, including superior overall efficiency, an ability to handle more power, greater bandwidth and smoother response.
