default setting will be [On].
Up to 8 faces of your subjects can be detected. However, only up to 2 faces of your subjects

When the camera detects more than subjects, the camera will judge which is the main
subject and set focus by priority.
The frame which the focus is set will turn green by pressing the shutter button half way
down. Even when the frame does not turn green, if the distance of the subject which the focus is set on and other subjects are the same, the focus is set on all subjects. Face Detection may fail, depending on the conditions under which it is used.
REC Mode: Selecting the continuous shooting method
Selects whether the camera performs continuous shooting or not when you press the shutter button.
(Normal) (Burst)
Does not shoot continuously. Records up to 100 images in succession when you press and hold down the shutter button.

BRK 0.3EV BRK 0.7EV BRK 1.0EV
Records a series of three images with the exposure values automatically shifted (Exposure Bracket). The larger the bracket step value, the larger the shift of the exposure value.
When you cannot decide the correct exposure, shoot in the Exposure Bracket mode, shifting the exposure value. You can select the image with the best exposure afterward.
When the mode dial is set to , the Exposure Bracket mode is not available. The flash is set to (Flash forced off).
On the Burst
When recording with the self timer, a series of a maximum of five images is recorded. The recording interval is approximately 0.46 seconds (DSC-W90) or 0.36 seconds (DSC-W80/W85). The recording interval becomes longer, depending on the setting for the image size. When the battery level is low, or when the internal memory or Memory Stick Duo is full, the Burst stops. You may not be able to shoot images in the Burst mode depending on the Scene Selection mode (page 28).
On the Exposure Bracket
The focus and white balance are adjusted for the first image, and these settings are also used for the other images. When the exposure is manually adjusted (page 41), the exposure is shifted based on the adjusted brightness. The recording interval is approximately 0.5 seconds (DSC-W90) or 0.4 seconds (DSC-W80/W85). If the subject is too bright or too dark, you may be unable to shoot properly with the selected bracket step value. You may not be able to shoot images in the Exposure Bracket mode depending on the Scene Selection mode (page 28).
Color Mode: Changing the vividness of the image or adding special effects
You can change the brightness of the image, accompanied by effects.
(Normal)
(Vivid)
Sets the image to bright and deep color.
(Natural)
Sets the image to quiet color.
(Sepia)
Sets the image to sepia color.
(B & W)
Sets the image to monochromatic color.
You can select only [Normal], [Sepia] or [B & W] when shooting movies.
ISO: Selecting a luminous sensitivity
Low ISO sensitivity
High ISO sensitivity
Selects a luminous sensitivity with units of ISO. The larger the number, the higher the sensitivity.
Select a large number when shooting in dark locations or shooting a subject moving at high speed, or select a small number to obtain high image quality. Using functions for shooting
When shooting a subject through a net or through window glass, it is difficult to get the proper focus in auto focus mode. In these cases, use of [Focus] is convenient.
AF stands for Auto Focus. Distance setting information in Focus Preset is approximate. If you point the lens up or down, the error increases. When you use Digital Zoom or AF illuminator, the normal AF range finder frame is disabled and a new AF range finder frame is displayed by a dotted line. In this case, the priority of AF movement is given to subjects around the center of the frame.
z If the subject is out of focus When shooting with the subject at the edge of the frame (or the screen), or when using [Center AF] or [Spot AF], the camera may not focus on a subject at the edge of the frame.
In such cases, do as follows.
1 Recompose the shot so that the subject is centered in the AF range finder, and press the shutter button halfway down to focus on the subject (AF lock).
AF range finder frame AE/AF lock indicator As long as you do not press the shutter button fully down, you can retry the procedure as many times as you want. 2 When the AE/AF lock indicator stops flashing and remains on, return to the fully composed shot, and press the shutter button fully down.
White Bal: Adjusting the color tones
Adjusts the color tones according to the lighting condition in a situation, for example, when the colors of an image look strange.
(Auto) (Daylight)
Adjusts the White Balance automatically. Adjusts for conditions outside under a clear sky, at sundown, night scenes, the presence of neon signs or fireworks.
(Cloudy)
Adjusts for a cloudy sky or a shady location.
(Fluorescent Light 1)/ (Fluorescent Light 2)/ (Fluorescent Light 3)
Fluorescent Light 1: Adjust for white fluorescent lighting. Fluorescent Light 2: Adjust for natural white fluorescent lighting. Fluorescent Light 3: Adjust for day white fluorescent lighting.
n (Incandescent)
Adjusts for places under incandescent lamp, or under bright lighting, such as in a photo studio.
(Flash)
Adjusts for the flash conditions.
You cannot select this item when shooting movies.
For details on the white balance, see page 9. Under fluorescent lights that flicker, the white balance function may not work correctly even though you select [Fluorescent Light 1], [Fluorescent Light 2], [Fluorescent Light 3]. Except in [Flash] modes, [White Bal] is set to [Auto] when the flash strobes.
Flash Level: Adjusting the amount of flash light
Adjusts the amount of flash light.
() (Normal) (+)
To change flash mode, see page 24.
Toward : Makes the flash level lower.
Toward +: Makes the flash level higher.
Red Eye Reduction: Reducing the red-eye phenomenon
The flash strobes two or more times before shooting to reduce the red-eye phenomenon when using the flash.
(Auto) (On) (Off)
Reduces the red-eye phenomenon whenever necessary, only when using the Face Detection Function. The flash always strobes to reduce the red-eye phenomenon. Does not use Red Eye Reduction.
Because it takes about a second until the shutter clicks, hold the camera firmly to prevent the effects of vibration. Also, do not let the subject move. Red-eye reduction may not produce the desired effects depending on individual differences, the distance to the subject, if the subject does not see the pre-strobe, or other conditions. In such a case, you can correct the red-eye phenomenon using [Retouch] in the viewing menu after shooting (page 52). When the Face Detection function is not used, the Red Eye Reduction will not function even when [Auto] is selected.
SteadyShot: Selecting the anti-blur mode
Selects the anti-blur mode.
(Shooting) (Continuous)
Activates the anti-blur function when pressing the shutter button halfway down. Using functions for shooting Always activates the anti-blur function. You can stabilize images even when zooming up a far subject.
Battery consumption is faster than in [Shooting] mode.
Does not use anti-blur mode.
In Auto Adjustment mode, [SteadyShot] will be set to [Shooting]. For movies, the options are limited to [Continuous] and [Off]. The default setting is set to [Continuous]. The anti-blur function may not work properly in the following cases. When camera shake is too strong When the shutter speed is slow, for example, shooting night scenes

AF, and Intelligent Auto mode 10.2 Megapixel Back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS Image Sensor The DSC-WX1 features a 10.2 megapixel Exmor R CMOS image sensor that brings out the full resolving power of the cameras G lens to deliver extremely fast speed, high resolution, and stunning low-light sensitivity with improved image clarity and drastically reduced grain - 2x better than traditional sensors of equivalent size and pixel count. In addition, the combined Exmor R CMOS sensor and BIONZ imaging processor delivers extremely fast 10fps, Anti Motion Blur, Hand-held Twilight and 720p movie modes. Premium 24mm f/2.4 G Lens Designed and manufactured to the highest standards of optical performance, the Sony G Lens is optimized to perfectly complement the advanced image sensors and image processing technology in Sonys cameras. G lenses are used in top of the line digital single lens reflex (DSLR) cameras and advanced pro-sumer HD Camcorders. Capture the whole picture with 24mm wide angle lens Capture more of the scene in landscape or group portraits with the 24mm wide angle. Wide angle is especially useful in small rooms, where you cant get far enough back from your subjects to capture them all. 5x Optical Zoom Capture the action up close with the 5x optical zoom. Zoom in on kids on a soccer field or a jet skier on the lake, to see their expressions as they enjoy their sport. Ultra bright f/2.4 G Lens This f/2.4 aperture lens gathers twice as much light as typical compact camera lenses, allowing you to shoot indoors or in low light without flash and with less noise. 2.7" Clear Photo LCD Plus Compose and show off your images on the large 2.7 Clear Photo LCD Plus display (230K pixels) Compact design Measuring at just 3 9/16" x 2 1/16" x 25/32, the DSC-WX1 is compact enough to slip into most any pocket or purse, so you can take it with you wherever you go. BIONZ image processor The BIONZ image processor delivers the high resolution and fast performance you expect from a Sony digital camera. Fast processing enables Sweep Panorama to create the image in camera in seconds, clear images in low light settings, and layering one image over another to create a photo that looks just like what you see with your eyes. Sweep Panorama mode Reach beyond the traditional wide angle lens, and capture more breathtaking shots with Sweep Panorama Mode. Simply press the shutter button and sweep the camera in the desired direction and the camera continuously shoots at a high speed, then seamlessly stitches the images together with automatic position adjustment to create one stunning panoramic image. Available in wide and ultra-wide options, the camera can take panoramic shots of up to 256 degrees, which goes well beyond the limits of peripheral vision, even capturing areas somewhat behind you. Now capturing wide landscapes is as easy as press and sweep. High speed shooting The DSC-WX1 can capture ten full 10.2 megapixel resolution images at up to 10fps, helping to ensure that you capture the decisive moment such as the bat hitting the game winning homerun. In addition, the DSC-WX1 employs a mechanical shutter that helps reduce distortion when continuously shooting moving subjects.
Handheld Twilight Capture cleaner and sharper night shots without using a tripod. When set to Handheld Twilight Mode, the DSC-WX1 captures six images in a fraction of a second with one press of the shutter, and combines the data from all six to create a single image of extraordinary detail and low noise. With these modes, ADDITIONAL FEATURES you can capture images in low light, HD Movie (720p)9 without flash, beyond the capability of traditional cameras. Optical SteadyShot image stabilization Anti Motion Blur mode Capture cleaner and sharper images, even when your subject is moving. When set in Anti Motion Blur mode, the DSC-WX1 captures six images in a fraction of a second with higher shutter speed and combines the data from all six to create a single image of extraordinary detail and eliminate subject blur, beyond the capability of traditional cameras.
