The outward appearance design past Sony W series product outward appearance resembled the traditional camera continuously. A deck of playing cards.

Amazing Camera even 4 years later I got this camera back in 2006 and I am in love with it as much today as when I first got it. A disappointment I have had this camera for at least 3-4 years now. It worked ok for a while.

This camera gives us solid image quality with decent selection of accessories. Fast and reliable camera. Stylish and unique design. Great focus.

The DSC-W50 is a light, easy to use camera which gives good well-balanced pictures, according to Sony about 400 on a single battery charge. I was not even looking for a digital camera, but after strolling past one of these beauties, I had to snap one up!

Ease of use, compact size, broad range of features, photo quality. No multi-focus feature, no safety feature for low battery.

My little workhorse I have had four of these cameras. One I drowned. One I absolutely wore out, since I take many photographs, daily.
joovallo 2:34am on Friday, June 11th, 2010
My first digital camera back in 2001 was a Sony, and then I made the mistake of switching brands. As a first time mom, I wanted a nice camera to capture a lot of pictures of my child as she grows.

I originally bought the Sony DSC-W50 because I had a gift certificate to a store. The W50 is tiny compared to the Canon which is good from a portability perspective.

DSC-W50/B
Cyber-shot Digital Still Camera
Better Pictures -- Easier Than Ever. DSC-W50 delivers superior performance in compact design -- 6.0 megapixels for big prints, Carl Zeiss 3X Optical zoom, High Sensitivity Mode, 2.51 LCD screen with on-screen Function Guide. 32 MBInternal Memory provides in-camera shooting, Stamina Lithium Ion battery captures up to 3903 shots.

Step-up New

6.0 Megapixel Super HAD CCD Higher megapixels gives you more detail and definition for making large prints and cropping in on your subject. Sonys advanced Super HAD (Hole Accumulated Diode) CCD design allows more light to pass to each pixel, increasing sensitivity and reducing noise. Extra-Large 2.51 LCD Screen The DSC-W50 has a bigger, brighter 2.51 LCD screen for setting up and viewing images -- with a one-touch Play button that makes it quick and easy to view your photos. Simple Controls, Function Guide User-friendly controls and simple onscreen Function Guide text/icon display help you set up camera functions for terrific shots -- and youll have greater creative freedom to adjust color mode (including Natural for subtle colors and Rich for more intense colors), sensitivity, brightness and image size. High Sensitivity Mode A new High Sensitivity Mode (ISO 1000) allows you to shoot with great results in low-light conditions -- and Sonys original Clear RAW NR (Noise Reduction) image processing technology helps suppress the color noise that can accompany highsenstivity shooting. Carl Zeiss 3X Optical/2X Digital Zoom 3X Optical Zoom helps the DSC-W50 bring distant subjects closer and lets you frame shots for better composition; Sonys precision 2X Digital Zoom provides an additional 2X magnification to enlarge details without jagged edges.
Stamina Battery Power With its powerful Lithium Ion rechargeable battery, the DSC-W50 can capture up to 390 images3 -enough for a whole vacation. The compact BC-CSG Battery Charger is also supplied for battery recharging on the go. 13X Smart Zoom Feature At VGA resolution4 , Sonys Smart Zoom feature intelligently crops into the central portion of interest in your photo without sacrificing full CCD resolution -- avoiding the image degradation of other digital zooms. Capture Images In-Camera With 32 MB2 Internal Memory, the DSCW50 allows you to shoot without a flash memory card -- then transfer your images to optional Memory StickDuo media, upload to your computer or make prints on your digital printer. Memory Stick Duo Media The DSC-W50 has a built-in slot for optional Memory StickDuo or highercapacity Memory Stick PRO Duo media -- the ultra-compact media for shooting, storing and sharing your photo images. MPEG Movie VX Fine Mode The DSC-W50 can capture VGA (640 x 480) audio/video clips at high frame rate (up to 30 frames per second), with length limited only by the capacity of your media. Cyber-shot Viewer Software Sonys new software that makes it easy to import images via camera or Memory Stick media -- then organize and browse through photos on your PC with simple scrolling through thumbnail images.
PictBridge Compatibility The DSC-W50 connects easily to any PictBridge compatible printer with the supplied USB cable, so you can print directly from your camera. You can view images and make print selections right on the cameras LCD screen -- with simple menus for print quality, date and index print.
