IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS (Continued)

Lightning

For added protection for this set during a lightning storm, or when it is left unattended and unused for long periods of time, unplug it from the wall outlet and disconnect the antenna or cable system. This will prevent damage to the set due to lightning and power-line surges.

Safety Check

Upon completion of any service or repairs to the set, ask the service technician to perform routine safety checks (as specified by the manufacturer) to determine that the set is in safe operating condition.

Service

Damage Requiring Service
Unplug the set from the wall outlet and refer servicing to qualified service personnel under the following conditions: When the power cord or plug is damaged or frayed. If liquid has been spilled or objects have fallen into the set. If the set has been exposed to rain or water. If the set has been subject to excessive shock by being dropped, or the cabinet has been damaged. If the set does not operate normally when following the operating instructions. Adjust only those controls that are specified in the operating instructions. Improper adjustment of other controls may result in damage and will often require extensive work by a qualified technician to restore the set to normal operation. When the set exhibits a distinct change in performance this indicates a need for service.

Servicing

Do not attempt to service the set yourself as opening or removing covers may expose you to dangerous voltage or other hazards. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel.

x On a location for use Do not use or keep the Memory Stick Duo in the following locations:
Places subject to extremely high temperature, such as a car parked outside in the summer. Places under direct sunlight. Places with extremely high humidity or subject to corrosive gases.
Damaged or lost image data will not be compensated for, and may occur in the following cases:
If you eject the Memory Stick Duo, turn the power off on your camcorder, or remove the battery pack for replacement while your camcorder is reading or writing image files on the Memory Stick Duo (while the access lamp is lit or flashing). If you use the Memory Stick Duo near magnets or magnetic fields.
x On the Memory Stick Duo adaptor After inserting a Memory Stick Duo into the Memory Stick Duo adaptor, you can use it with a standard Memory Stick compliant device.
When using a Memory Stick Duo with a Memory Stick compliant device, be sure to insert the Memory Stick Duo into a Memory Stick Duo adaptor. When inserting a Memory Stick Duo into a Memory Stick Duo adaptor, make sure the Memory Stick Duo is inserted facing in the correct direction, then insert it all the way in. Note that improper use may cause a malfunction. Also, if you force the Memory Stick Duo into the Memory Stick Duo adaptor in the wrong direction, it may be damaged. Do not insert a Memory Stick Duo adaptor without a Memory Stick Duo attached. Doing so may result in malfunctions of the unit.
It is recommended you make a back-up of important data on the hard disk of a computer. x On handling a Memory Stick Keep the following in mind when handling a Memory Stick Duo.
Be careful not to apply excessive force when writing on a memo area on a Memory Stick Duo. Do not attach a label or the like on a Memory Stick Duo or a Memory Stick Duo adaptor. When you carry or store a Memory Stick Duo, put it in its case. Do not touch, or allow metallic objects to come into contact with the terminals. Do not bend, drop or apply strong force to the Memory Stick Duo. Do not disassemble or modify the Memory Stick Duo. Do not let the Memory Stick Duo get wet. Be careful to keep Memory Stick Duo media out of the reach of small children. There is danger that a child might swallow it.

x On a Memory Stick PRO Duo The maximum memory capacity of a Memory Stick PRO Duo that can be used on your camcorder is 4 GB.
On image data compatibility
Image data files recorded on a Memory Stick Duo by your camcorder conform to the Design rule for Camera File system universal standard established by the JEITA (Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association). On your camcorder, you cannot play back still images recorded on other devices (DCRTRV900 or DSC-D700/D770) that do not conform to the universal standard. (These models are not sold in some regions.)
If you cannot use a Memory Stick Duo that has been used with another device, format it with your camcorder (p. 60). Note that formatting erases all information on the Memory Stick Duo. You may not be able to play back images with your camcorder: When playing back image data modified on your computer. When playing back image data recorded with other devices.
To use the battery pack effectively
Battery pack performance decreases when the surrounding temperature is 10 C (50 F) or below, and the length of time you can use the battery pack becomes shorter. In that case, do one of the following to use the battery pack for a longer time. Put the battery pack in a pocket to warm it up, and insert it in your camcorder right before you start taking shots. Use a large capacity battery pack: NP-FH70/ NP-FH100 (optional). Frequent use of the LCD screen or a frequent playback, fast forward or rewind operation wears out the battery pack faster. We recommend using a large capacity battery pack: NP-FH70/NP-FH100. Be sure to set the POWER switch to OFF (CHG) when not recording or playing back on your camcorder. The battery pack is also consumed when your camcorder is in recording standby or playback pause. Have spare battery packs ready for two or three times the expected recording time, and make trial recordings using a DVD-RW/DVD+RW before making the actual recording. Do not expose the battery pack to water. The battery pack is not water resistant.
About the "InfoLITHIUM" battery pack
Your camcorder operates only with an InfoLITHIUM battery pack (H series). InfoLITHIUM H series battery packs have the mark.
What is an InfoLITHIUM battery pack?
An InfoLITHIUM battery pack is a lithium-ion battery pack that has functions for communicating information related to operating conditions between your camcorder and an optional AC Adaptor/ charger. The InfoLITHIUM battery pack calculates the power consumption according to the operating conditions of your camcorder, and displays the remaining battery time in minutes. With an AC Adaptor/charger, the remaining battery time and charging time appear.
About the remaining battery time indicator
When the power goes off even though the remaining battery time indicator indicates that the battery pack has enough power to operate, charge the battery pack fully again. Remaining battery time will be indicated correctly. Note, however, that the battery indication will not be restored if it is used in high temperatures for a long time, or if left in a fully charged state, or when the battery pack is frequently used. Use the remaining battery time indication as a rough guide only. The E mark that indicates low battery flashes even if there are still 5 to 10 minutes of battery time remaining, depending on the operating conditions or ambient temperature.

1/6" Advanced HAD CCD Imager, 680K Pixels Gross 1/6" Advanced HAD (Hole Accumulation Diode) CCD with 340K (effective) pixels provides stunning detail and clarity with exceptional video (up to 500 lines of horizontal resolution) and still image performance. 40X Optical/2000X Digital Zoom The optical zoom helps to bring the action close up from far away. In addition the Digital Zoom Interpolation means that extreme digital zooming is clearer, with less distortion than previous types of digital zooms. Professional Quality Carl ZeissVarioTessarLens Carl Zeiss lenses have an advanced optical multi-layer coating that offers less glare and flare with increased contrast. This results in vivid image brilliance, true-to-life color saturation and perfect renditions of subtle tones. DVD Format Video Recording The DVD recording format delivers digital picture and sound quality comparable to that of MiniDV, but on DVD. Playback of the DVDs couldn't be simpler. After finalizing the disc in the camcorder, the disc can play back in most DVD Players, computers and even PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 video game consoles2. DVD-R/-RW/+RW and +R DL (Dual Layer) Compatible4 The DCR-DVD108 is compatible with a variety of DVD formats allowing the easy of use and simplicity found in DVD Media. With DVD+RW media there is not a need to finalize the disc (minimum recording required). Simply remove the disc and insert the media into a compatible DVD Player. 2.5" Touch Panel SwivelScreen LCD Display5 (123K Pixels) Provides excellent viewing clarity with improved resolution. The high resolution 123K pixel LCD screen rotates up to 270 degrees for multiple viewing angles providing sharp, detailed images for monitoring or playback. Memory Stick Duo Media Slot7 Capture still images up to 640 x 480 resolution, directly onto Memory Stick Duo media for easy transfer to PCs for emailing, printing or sharing with other compatible Memory Stick devices. Visual Index Screen Shows thumbnail images of video clips and still images when playing back on your camcorder or DVD player, making your selection easier. Super SteadyShotImage Stabilization System An advanced version of Sony's SteadyShot Image Stabilization system that controls an even higher range of shake and vibration frequencies, to achieve an even higher level of smoothness without degradation of video like some other image stabilization systems. InfoLithiumBattery with AccuPower Meter System Charge the battery at anytime because unlike NiCad (Nickel Cadmium) batteries, Sony's rechargeable Lithium Ion batteries are not subject to a life shortening "memory effect". Sony's exclusive AccuPower meter displays the battery time remaining in minutes, in either the viewfinder or on the LCD screen. Manual Focus Allows the user to manually adjust the focus of the camcorder using the touch panel. Manual focusing also allows the user to control the focus in difficult situations where either the environment or the subject does not allow the camcorder's auto focus to perform optimally, such as when shooting through a window or in a crowded environment. Super NightShotPlus Infrared System With Sony's Super NightShot Infrared System you can capture natural looking video, even when shooting in low light. Record subjects up to 20 feet away using the built-in infrared system, but without the overall monochrome color common with earlier low-light recording systems. StaminaBattery Power Management System1 Using the optional NP-FH1000 InfoLithium Battery, the DCR-DVD108 can continuously record for up to 9 hours (LCD or viewfinder) on a single full charge, providing extra long battery life. Scene Selection Modes Scene Selection modes make recording easy even when filming in challenging situations. Choose from Beach, Candle, Fireworks, Landscape, Portrait, Snow, Sports, Spotlight, Sunrise & Sunset and Twilight.
