Dual-layer recording

Dual-layer recording is only possible in duallayer capable machines with compatible dual-layer discs (currently DVD+R DL and DVD+RW DL). It is important to understand that dual layer does not mean double sided. It does in fact mean that the disc is made up of two layers.
AUDIO S-Force PRO Front Surround
known as head-related transfer function (HRTF) and is a database expressing the difference in sound wave spectrum and arrival time at each ear. S-Force Pro Front Surround was designed to deliver realistic surround sound from just two front speakers. The technique recognizes that sound waves reach our right and left ears separately, the brain uses this information (differences in volume, time lag between the right and left ears, and changes in sound waves) to correlate the location of the sound source and its relative distance. The technique is The technique was perfected by Sony engineers by placing a reference mannequin inside an anechoic chamber (an echoless room) and measuring over ten thousand reference points. The result is a system with just two front speakers that can deliver realistic surround sound and effects.
S-Force provides perfect virtual Surround Sound, regardless of room shape or size.
AUDIO S-Master Digital Amplifier
S-Master is Sonys digital amplification technology. It uses pulse width modulation, instead of traditional analogue amplification techniques, converting input signals into a series of digital pulses. This digital pulse wave is just a series of ones and zeros that map out a constantly varying square wave signal. (This principle is also used in Super Audio CD.) To change the output volume (i.e. amplify), the height or voltage of this digital pulse wave is varied. This gives complete accuracy at low or high volumes, as the signal data remains the same; only the height (i.e. volume) changes. There are other digital amplifiers in the market, however Sonys S-Master system is unique and uses exclusive techniques and designs that won it an EISA (European Imaging and Sound Association) award for audio innovation in 2003.

AUDIO Multi Room/Zone

The term multi room relates to the function within products to manage sound in more than one room at the same time. There are two common forms of multi room operation. The first is known as speakers A/ B and has been around for some time. This term refers to speakers A which are the speakers you are using in the primary room, or the room the receiver is in. Speakers B refers to a secondary pair of speakers in a second room. They can be run as A only or B only, or you can run both at once which is referred to as A+B. In this situation the same content is in both environments. More recently Sony have introduced multi zone to the range. The term zone refers to an environment or room other than the primary room where the main system is setup. The main difference between Speakers A/B and Zones is the ability to change the sound in the second environment without affecting the main room. An example would be watching a movie in the main room and the kids listening to the radio in the other. There are two styles of multi zone control. One is active meaning that the amplifier drives all the speakers in both zones. The other is known as passive and while the content in the second room is different, it is only a line level output. This type of output would require amplification in the second room by a separate amplifier.

AUDIO Digital Cinema Sound (DCS)
This Sony technology was designed to re-create the cinema feel at home. Audio engineers from Tokyo actually visited Sony Pictures three dubbing studios in Hollywood. These studios are where many of the best films have their soundtracks mixed and recorded. For DCS (digital cinema sound), the engineers measured the ambiance, reverberation and other audio qualities for each of the studios. These qualities were then programmed into a microchip and are now used in Sony receivers. When you select one of the Cinema Studio modes (A, B or C), the receiver will emulate that original Sony Pictures studios environment.
