Networking Functions
The MVS-8000 Series and DVS-9000 Series Switchers provide two Ethernet-based networks: the Control LAN and the Data LAN. This opens up completely new possibilities. The Control LAN is a dedicated network that communicates between MVS-8000 Series and DVS-9000 Series Switcher processors and CCP Series control panels. Using this network, multiple control panels can simultaneously share a single switcher processor on an M/E basis. Shared resources mean higher utilization and lower cost. Imagine two control panels using the same frame simultaneously. Or one control panel can operate simultaneous HD and SD

frames, for uncompromised HD/SD simulcasting from an OB vehicle. Or primary and slave panels can talk to primary and slave frames, operating in hot standby mode, for redundancy on mission-critical programming. The second network, the Data LAN, provides a connection for remote administrative tasks such as status monitoring, software upgrades and configuration, as well as maintenance and facility-management tasks. Image file transfers are also available for sharing graphics and titles. This second network can extend across your corporate LAN/WAN and even reach out over the Internet via a secure gateway. Sony System Management Software for a PC manages all the Sony live-production products configured around the MVS-8000 Series and DVS-9000 Series Switchers. A single user interface controls the MVS-8000 Series and DVS-9000 Series Switchers, HDS-X Series Routers and PFV-SP Series Signal Processing Units and more. Smart and efficient, the System Management Software enables remote setup, maintenance and operation of each device, as well as efficient file management of setup, effect, and image data.
Powerful Device Control
Sitting at the panel of the MVS-8000 or DVS-9000, you can control a world of equipment, including VTRs, DDRs, external routers, interface processors and audio mixers. And Sony makes it easy to build the most sophisticated effects, because the device control system uses the same timeline as switcher events. External devices connect to the MKS-8700 Device Control Unit, which provides control via RS-422A or GPI. And Sony supports a variety of protocols such as the ESAM-II (V3.0), P-BUS and VDCP (V3.0), for wide-ranging control of a full range of devices. These switchers also provide comprehensive control for Sony HDS-X Series Routers via the Serial Bus (S-BUS) connection. You can re-assign router crosspoints without distracting attention from the switcher control panel. To make control even easier, router source

names can be transferred to the switcher control panel and shown on the source name displays. In addition, you can use router system control panels for Aux Bus switching. This can streamline your control surfaces, eliminating the unnecessary complexity of a switcher panel next to a router panel.
Intelligent Tally Functions
With up to 80 primary inputs, it's vital to identify which is which. That's why these switchers provide intelligent, integrated switcher and router tally operation. With this system, its easy to program multiple on-air tallies and iso-recording tallies. If you need additional tally ports, just add tally boards to the MKS-8700. The MVS-8000 Series and DVS-9000 Series Switchers can provide tally outputs to under monitor displays (UMDs) and router control panels via the simple, multi-drop S-BUS coaxial cable connection.

Independent M/E Architecture
Each M/E bank, which includes PGM/PST, is identically equipped for rich functionality. You can designate snapshots, keyframes, crosspoint assignments, 4:3/16:9 modes and bus toggle on/off independently for each M/E. This architecture enables a single switcher to rapidly accommodate multiple assignments, operating in 4:3 and 16:9 simultaneously! further flexibility, each keyer in every M/E offers chroma keying and color vector keying, eliminating restrictions of selectable key types. Best of all, you can exchange M/E effects freely between any MVS-8000 and any DVS-9000 in the world, regardless of configuration. So as you move from switcher to switcher, your best ideas move with you! Sonys acclaimed Finekey technology allows fine adjustments of key position and border widths on a sub-pixel level within the range of 8H. Technical directors already appreciate our "Processed Key" mode in DME-Link function. Now theyre even better, with even greater power and convenience. Another powerful feature, Multi-Program Mode enables four simultaneous outputs per M/E, which can be assigned to any of the four keys in any combination. So you can perform versioning of the same program feed, inserting different backgrounds without the added expense of an external keyer or using an additional M/E.
Enhanced Frame Memory System
The frame memory system of the MVS-8000 Series and DVS-9000 Series Switchers provide eight simultaneous outputs that pull from a common frame pool. For short logo animations, the pictures can be played out at frame rate through any or all outputs. The frame memory accepts video or key data in any combination. The MVS-8000 Series Switcher can store 222 frames in SD configuration or 58 frames in HD configuration, while The DVS-9000 Series Switcher can store 222 frames. Additional storage is close at hand, thanks to a hard disk drive in the control panel. You're also free to transfer video frames to and from the switcher via Ethernet port or removable PC card media.

Easy and Efficient Operation
These Switchers use a large color touch-screen for efficient and intuitive menu control. And Sony's "double-punch menu recall" gives you exactly the menu information you need, exactly when you need it. Just double-punch a button to recall its associated menu. Button indications have also been enhanced from the DVS-7000 Series. Crosspoint source-name displays, FlexiPad and Shot Box buttons all incorporate backlit three-color LCD indicators to which bit-mapped graphics or text can be imported and displayed. So you'll never again need to guess what effect number 99 is; you'll just look at the button. Optional remote-control panels, such as AUX Bus Remote, Keyer Remote (Universal Control Panel) and M/E Remote panels, allow convenient operating environments for any application, especially live events.
Programmable Macros
Having a dedicated button for each function on the MVS-8000 Series and DVS-9000 Series Switchers is handy; but these switchers take operational convenience one step further. The MVS-8000 Series and DVS-9000 Series Switchers make it easy to program macros. Using the FlexiPad or 10-key pad, simply create operational sequences and then store and assign them to any button. Macros are particularly useful in live environments when time is critical and theres no margin for error.

Sophisticated Digital Multi-Effects (DME)
While the MVS-8000 Series and DVS-9000 Series Switchers share control surface modules, the two switchers offer different DME packages. Both switchers deliver effects so powerful, you may not even need an external DME device. For the MVS-8000 Series Switcher, the MKS-8800 DME processor provides a creative arsenal. Take control of realistic lighting, defocus, blur, and auto solid setups. Use combiners to create your own, customized looks. The integrated DME processor supports all the same HD and SD frame rates and formats as the MVS-8000 Series Switcher without board swapping. You can enjoy up to eight channels of integrated effects with two DME processors installed. Each channel is freely assignable to any key or transition in the Switcher. 4:3/16:9 mode selection, global axis control and multiple timelines are independently supported for each DME channel. This new level of close integration between switcher and DME results in creative preset patterns. The MKS-8800 also connects through a dedicated video interface. So you don't need to sacrifice the switcher's input and output resources. The DVS-9000 Series Switcher offers its own, mind-bending range of effects. Sonys engineers incorporated the essence of the renowned DME-7000 Effects Processor into the BKDS-9470 DME Board Set. You get four channels of incredible DME, with 2D, 3D and nonlinear effects including Sonys extraordinary Digital SKETCHTM, Digital SPARKLE effects, plus Color Corrector and up to four channels of Intersect Combine. You can add true-to-life lighting effects to nonlinear and 3D-effect patterns. Sony makes it easy to tweak the color and shape for the light source. And each DME channel provides external video input for use as a background or border/trail source. Four SDI monitor outputs on the DME board let you monitor the video with graphic, the video without graphic, or the key.
