Xperia x10 mini - cant save pictures.

I have just got an xperia x10 mini.
I received an mms and wanted to save the picture to my phone so I could use it as well as upload it to my pc - but I dont seem to be able to do this.

The instructions say:

To use a picture in a multimedia message:

1. 2. 3. 4.

From the Home screen, find and tap Messaging. Tap to open a message conversation thread. Tap the attachment > View picture. Tap the bottom left corner icon and select an option.
But the only options it gives is to use picture as contact picture or wallpaper.
Can anyone help with this query? Thanks Tx

Hey anybody able to help with this as I have the same problem and need to save several photos so that I can then transfer them to my PC. When I tap the photo I get View Picture; Forward message and Delete message not Save to SD as suggested in Help and Support.

Thank you for contacting the Sony Ericsson support centre. Unfortunately it is not possible to save a picture whsh is sent through as an MMS Message due to the limitations of the Android Operating System the phone is running.

Does it make any difference if you press and hold the poicture from the MMS? I think that's what I did, after some time of frustration, to save a picture from a multimedia message to my phone.
That's on the big X10, but it might be worth a try. Unfortunately, I have deleted the original message, so I can't recreate precisely what I did, but it would appear not to be a problem with Android 1.6, which is what both the mini and big versions of the phone use.

Unfortunately this doesn't work on the x10 mini.

Have been in touch with my network provider hoping I might be able to access the photos through their website but no can do so their techies are looking at the phone to see if way around it. Will let you know if they do. Not really enjoying this phone and useless for me as I need to download photos for my business. Am also having problems with sending photos with mms. Beginning to wish I had stayed with my very ancient Motorola!

Update!

As previously noted the x10 mini cannot save photos received in a message.
One way around the problem if you have mms as part of your network package and an email account then you can click on the photo > Forward Message > Select Recipient > New Conversation> Add Recipient >enter your e-mail address > send.

Worked for me anyway.

Glad you found a way around the problem. Good news, though it does seem rather cumbersome and relies on the person having mms and email. I'm sure there must be a way for others to save a picture. Sometimes, long clicks at various stages of the instruction manual, such as it is, help.

this worked for us to be able to save pictures in mms.
1.download the app handcent sms from the android market.(free) 2.open the app and your messages are displayed. 3.select a message with a picture in it 4.touch and hold the picture til you see a list of options appear. 5 select copy attached to SD card. The picture is saved to gallery. Now from your home screen press the left menu key (4 squares) and select arrange icons. scroll to the app and replace the original messaging icon in the corner with the app.
Now you will receive 2 notifications when you recieve an sms.to stop this happening goto phone settings/sony ericsson application settings/messaging/ and untick notifications.
hopefully this works for you like it does for us

Thanks so much for figuring this out, as that was a very annoying problem.
So i now have the Handcent SMS App as suggested, and i love it, it works great and shows the discussions far better than without the app. I have a problem though.
When i receive a message, and i open it, it gives me the option of do i want to open the message with Handcent SMS or open it with standard messaging. Each time, i choose Handcent SMS as this is what i want to view the message with, however it does not get rid of the envelope icon (the 'you have a text message' icon) unless i go back into the message and open it using the standard android Messaging function.

Ideally i want the option to be able to use either or, to disappear. I just want all messages to be opened by Handcent, and i want the Envelope icon to disappear when i have read the message.
When i do come across the option to choose Handcent or Messaging, there is a little downward arrow, that when i click it, it says Use By Default For This Location, and directs me to Home Settings>Applications>Manage Applications.
I still cant figure out how to solve my problem though.
Does anyone know how to help?

To get rid of the double notification, you need to disable the notifications for the stock messaging system. To do that, open the application, press the menu button (the real button on the bottom left), then select 'Settings', scroll down to 'Notifications' and remove the tick from the box.

It is very easy to save a MMS Message from XPERIA X10: Open the Message and touch the picture by 2 or 3 seconds and you will see SAVE PICTURE.

HA! I got it! 1) Go to messages 2) Find desired attachment (a.e picture, video, etc.) 3) Press and hold attachment untill window appears (message options) 4) select copy attached to SD
.you can then go to your mediascape-photo-album-dowload, and it should appear there

my phone wont charge i bought new charger and leads and tried different battery didnt work. so i took it to my o2 shop they sent it away for repair but then i got a phone call saying that they are not fixing the fone as some indictor turned pink for water damage i have never dropped the phone in water. how can i get my phone fixed under the warranty do i have a leg to stand on with o2? i have heard about them doing this before with other phone models can anyone help me please

my xperia also wouldnt charge about 2 weeks after i bought it. they couldnt fix it in store but as it was still under warrenty they sent it away, i was pretty annoyed though it was away for two weeks!

check the back of your phone, take the cover and the battery off
check the battery's connectors, there should be a WHITE rectangle is it white or pink or red?
go to the top of your phone, just above the camera lens, there's a small white rectangle with three red dots

yes the battery is red and the indictor above the camera lens is pink o2 told me today the phone isnt in an operable state due to water damage but it is fully operable apart from the battery not chargin it had been lying switched on in there store for 2 days and still had battery life in it so they could see it was working they also told me my warranty is nil void as the indictors turned pink is there anything i can do about it?

they sent mine back yesterday went to collect it today and not fixing it as they say it got wet when it didn't be careful not to let your phone get damp or condensation aparently this sends the indicators pink and nil voids your warranty

turn off your phone, press and hold the back button and then connect the USB cable, does the green light turn on?
if it does, you might be able to reflash it, if not there's not much you can do specially if the new battery is not working.

install Update Service, run it, select your phone, click accept, then it will ask you to connect your phone in Flash mode
that's when you turn off your phone -> take the battery out wait 5 seconds -> put the battery back on -> press and hold the BACK button -> without releasing the BACK button connect the USB to the computer and phone, your LED indicator should be green.

nothing happened and the battery is completely dead now when you try to turn on the phone the led indictor flashes red and nothing happens

if you know anyone else with a X10 you could borrow their battery and flash your phone with Update Service and see if that does it, but if your phone can't charge your battery even with new the charger and cable something else is the problem.

Yes, try another cable. If the thing has turned pink, it doesn't necessarily mean that you gave dropped the phone in water. It could be from being out in the rain, or even condensation. But it does mean that it has got damp in some way.

that is what the person in o2 said aswell he kinda contradicted himself as he said there werent fixing it due to water damage and then said it probably didnt get wet it could be just condensation with our weather at the minute wat do they expect lol

ok so now o2 wont even look at my phone as the indictors turned pink and aparently the phone is inoperable it is operable in every way apart from it wont charge do i have any rights to about the so called water damage which didnt happen and aparently the sales rep says condensation can set them off surely they have to take that in to consideration? i even offered to pay for the phone to be fixed and they said i could't do that

sony were really any help they said o2 didnt even contact them about the phone and i can send it them but they prob wouldnt fix it either as the indicators are pink and i will have to pay to get my handset back if they can't fix it and there is two year warranty with the phone not one year like o2 told me

no i can't don't know any one with the same phone do you think the k800i would have the same battery i know its is quite an old phone so it miten't work with mine. i dont think it is the battery as there was low battery when i sent away to o2 and the battery still had life left in it 8 days later

You're not alone - I bought a second X10 (mini pro this time) from an O2 customer (a relative). When I tried to get the unlock code (because I want to go to T-Mobile) first O2 wanted 15 then they turned around and refused, saying that they'd send me some free PAYG SIM's instead. Was VERY tempted to tell them into which orrifice they could insert those SIM's , but instead was polite and turned them down. So I'm very unimpressed
with O2's customer support. Good to hear that SE are being sympathetic though.

o2 shouldn't have a customer support unit its for nothing all they do is try and pass the buck back to the poor retailer and say its there fault when they are justing doing what o2 are telling them worse than trying to hold a long conversation with a three year old lol

I have Xperia x10a. And I can't charge my phone, I think I have a problem with the USB port on the phone. I tried other USB cables but not luck :(. Alos, I've updated my phone to 2.1 which is not released in the US yet. Dumb question. do you think SE will take my phone for repair? If SE dosn't take my phone I am doomed. Stuck on 2.1 for ever lol (; )

perhaps you can still flash your phone but your out of battery if you can try to borrow a battery and see if you can flash it

a repair sofware program should fix it for you but if you cant connect to pc you should phone sony uk and they mite be able to help or if you can try connect your phone wireless to your pc if your pc has that option

i can't see why they won't take it for repair sometimes they look for proof of purchase did you try to reinstall 2.0 software or a repair software program once when my fone started freezing i run a repair and that worked the usb seems to be faulty alot of people have told me theres went aswell and sony fixed them am sending mine off to them this week you have to pay 10 to get them to send it back once it is fixed

I suggest that you contact your local support team to see if a service location might be able to fix your problem, but if the phone has taken damage by mouisture I don't believe that they are able to help you.

DEAD THE NEXT MORNING. I WON'T TURN ON, IT WON'T CHARGE
I HAD INSTALLED THE LATEST FRAMEWORK ALREADY.

NOTHING WORKS :

- PUT THE CHARGER FOR 1 HOUR (NO SIGN OF LIFE).
- USB TO PC FOR 1 HOUR (NO SIGN OF LIFE).
- SWITCHED ON/OFF WITH/WITHOUT HOLDING THE MAIN/BACK KEY (NO SIGN OF LIFE).
THERE IS NOTHING I CAN DO EXCEPT BRING THE F..G PHONE TO REPAIR FOR ABOUT ONE MONTH.

THIS PHONE IS A PIECE OF S.T I WILL NEVER BUY SONY ERICSSON AGAIN.

for what I've seen it's not isolated and it has been happening for the past few weeks, I wonder if the update somehow has something to do or is just a hardware malfunction

They said the phone did not have any problem !!!!!!!! That the charger was at fault, which is bullshyte since I tried 3 different ones before bringing it in ; and now, the charger works again : proof that the charger has nothing to do with it.
This means they have no idea what's going on and the problem might just happen again anytime !
I am ditching this phone big time and switching to HTC pronto !

Amongst those are an email address (xperia.za@support.sonyericsson.com) that specifically says it's for South Africa support, or there's a phone number for Xperia support (0861 632222).
If it's any consolation, the service providers here in the UK are just as useless - in fact my provider tried a pretty good "hard sell" to persuade me not to buy an X10.

I'm extremely annoyed and dissatisfied, as I had the same problem with my x10i, worked ok 1 day then the next wouldn't charge. contacted se direct who gave me the address to send it off for repair as still in warranty. after keeping an eye on the tracking site have found that apparently its beyond repair and not covered on warranty, so I have had a quotation sent. when I've rang bout this to both se and the repair company no-one can or wont give me any straight answers and now I'm left waiting for a letter with this quotation. But what I don't get is, This seems to be a common fault as I've looked into this with other x10 users but no-one seems to be able to tell us why. But are saying its our fault. How can that be when a lot of us R having the same problems. I know mine wasn't caused by water damage as I checked the little white rectangles on both phone and battery and they were still very white.How can we all have the same prob yet it be our faults??????? this is the 3rd se that I have had probs with. I had the k800i, and the satio now the x10i. I wish I kept my nokia or got a htc. my nokia n95 was amazing n is still going strong. just wish I'd never given it away. I'm loosing faith with se very rapidly.
