Sony Ericsson XPeria X10 WONT.
WayneGunnposts since Sep 7, 2010
Right, well I've had the phone for just over 1 month now and the other day it ran out of battery. When I went to charge it, it wouldn't start charging!!!!! I've tried contacting Vodafone and Sony Ericsson but no one seems to be giving me any sort of answer, never mind a solution!
I've tried charging using usb and PC. still nothing. The red light just flashes slowly but never does anything!
I don't know what to do. I am still paying my bill but have no replacement phone!! I also have insurance.
Is this a common problem with the X10?
What's the problem?
I look forward to your reply

first of all, take the battery out for 5 minutes, then put it back again, leave it to the plug all night long but don't touch the power button. The first thing you will see in the morning will be a fully charged X10 :-)

I'm having the same problem right now, and I only bought mine yesterday. Maybe because I didn't let it charge fully before I started playing with it! I will try the battery out and fully charge thing and see how I get on!

If what reptile said does not work, go quickly to a SE service Centre and ask them to repair it.
But my guess is you have come close to exhausting your battery, as Reptile has suggested. thus the red flashing light. But I believe you'll only need to remove the battey for about 30 seconds.

Apparently with the OP, he can still have a red flash. that means the battery is still detectable.
Let him try one more day, since it is the weekend.

The phone stays switched on whilst charging to avoid overcharging/overheating

Hay Ak3dgfx, I thought should be the other way round? when the phone is turn on while charging it will slowly build up heat, if in long term that mean it will spoil the phone. unless it has a cut off power when the batt is full. anyway just for a thought, if the phone is turn off while charging the batt will get chage up faster and safer and that will also prolong the batts life longer. but if its turn will charging, the batts life will get shorter and thats where you will sometime see your phone batt bloated means of overcharging. might cause overheating and if worst case it may just. Boooomz!
ak3dgfx 452 posts since Sep 12, 2010 11. Re: Sony Ericsson XPeria X10 WONT CHARGE!!!!!!!!!! Sep 27, 2010 6:28 PM
it's a smart charging system
whilst the phone is switched on, the software can monitor temperature and charge rate/ status. If the battery is fully charged then it will stop the charging. When the battery falls below a certain level then it tops the charge up again.
The phone needs to be active for the software detection to work

I see! Thanks ak3dgfx for the infors. Now all i can do is wait for SE service centre to call me again to update me. The last time they called me saying that they changed my mother broad and doing more testing. *sights* i misssssed my X10. without it i cant watch movies, play games, facbooking, msning, listen to my favs mps songs, listen to my fav radio station..

I think you mean the smart connector. The charger itself is "dumb".

I read every post I replied to. And for your info, there is no circuit in the charger. The "smart" unit is in the phone, the usb socket, not the connector. I was merely pointing that out. Is it necessary for you to get so agreesive?

There is no solution. This phone is a waste of money.
Got the phone back from repair. All dirty scratched, but let's leave that "detail" aside.
They said the phone did not have any problem !!!!!!!! That the charger was at fault, which is bullshyte since I tried 3 different ones before bringing it in ; and now, the charger works again : proof that the charger has nothing to do with it.
This means they have no idea what's going on and the problem might just happen again anytime !
I am ditching this phone big time and switching to HTC pronto !

1st question, if you connect your phone to your computer does it recognize it ? if it does then try to repair your phone with Update Service
if it doesn't try a different USB cable and charger
if it doesn't work go with your retailer and maybe they'll have an extra X10 battery that you can try on your phone
if it charge well the only issue will be the battery

i bought two of these phones for my kids so they could learn android & texting. All they did was frustrate the children. Ive read the posts here and can confirm that battery fault is not correct: i swapped the batteries. Charger works ok on phone 2. Connection fault is likely, but difficult to determine coz of very poor software response to connection. Understand that phone must be on for software to monitor & switch etc, but this obviously doesn't work when battery is dead flat. Interface logic is main problem - both for repairers and users. Combination red flash/orange flash light and visual display is poorly programmed: when phone is on, display should always respond & inform immediately when plugged into anything - and if phone is off, dead flat, or in use (on call) then red light should simply come on to indicate charging, come on yellow to indicate pc connection, and blinking should only occur when there is an error and it should be a rapid blink. My 10 year old went back to his pre-android Samsung - do you think he will ever buy any product branded SONY in his lifetime? Not likely!

hey uliwooly thanks - that did not occur to me. I do however think alot of users don't have a phone problem at all here - just a comprehension problem.i also think heat switch-off mech. is a factor coz neither of the batteries are damaged, so the switch off is working but users can't tell what phone is doing. it really does have a stupid interface - i've owned over a dozen phones and it seems like SONY is going backwards in low-level visual comms
