Reliable and a great picture with HDMI I have never had any problems with this unit. It loads fast. Sony combo DVD player?VCR I bought this player because I wanted a combo. I was looking for one that I could use with my surround sound player.

To reduce static noise on a weak FM stereo station
Press FM MODE repeatedly until MONO lights up in the display. There will be no stereo effect, but the reception will improve.
To use an iPod, refer to the operating instructions of your iPod. Sony cannot accept responsibility in the event that data recorded to iPod is lost or damage when using an iPod with this unit. Some iPod operations may not be performed using buttons on the unit or remote. Depending on the connected iPod, operations may differ.
If you press NX while the system is turned off, the system turns on automatically and iPod function is selected. Then, playback starts if there is an iPod connected to the iPod dock (One Touch Play). However, depending on the status of the connected iPod, the iPod may not be playback. Press and hold V or v on the unit or remote has the similar function of turning the Click Wheel on the iPod clockwise or counterclockwise. Be sure that the iPod is not playing when using the One Touch Play.
To use the system as a battery charger
You can use the system as a battery charger for the iPod when the system is on or off. The charging begins when the iPod is placed on the iPod connector. The charging status appears in the iPod screen and when the system is off the display of the unit change to clock. For details, refer to the operating instructions of your iPod.
To stop charging the iPod
Remove the iPod. If you stop charging the iPod when the system is off, press DISPLAY repeatedly until the display is turned off (Power Saving mode).

Enhancing the MP3 file sound quality
You can enhance the MP3 file sound quality during playback.
Creating a party atmosphere
You can create a party environment by using X-ROUND for moving sound effect or/and SOUND FLASH for flashing effect. To enjoy the X-ROUND mode, place your front and surround speakers at an equal distance from your listening position (see Example 2 of Positioning the speakers for LBT-ZX99i only on page 15).

select MP3 BOOSTER. The last selected MP3 booster setting appears in the display.
2 Press B or b repeatedly to select
the setting you want. The display changes as follows: BOOSTER OFF y BOOSTER ON

You can only listen to MP3 Booster effect during playback of MP3 files. MP3 Booster effect will reset to BOOSTER ON each time you turn on the system.

You can select the speakers which you want the sound to be output.

If you press GAME while the system is turned off, the system turns on automatically and GAME is selected as the function. You can also press FUNCTION (or FUNCTION +/ on the remote) repeatedly to select GAME.

When X-ROUND mode is selected, the speaker system setting automatically changes to SPEAKERS A+B. When the headphones are connected to the PHONES jack, the speaker system setting is automatically changed to SPEAKERS A+B and you cannot change this setting.

You can mix the sound from the component connected to the GAME INPUT jacks with another function such as CD, radio, computer, iPod or turntable connected to this system.

Changing the display

You can select the power illuminator as you want. Press ILLUMINATION repeatedly to select the power illuminator you want when the system is turned on. Each time you press the button, the power illuminator changes cyclically as follows: PATTERN 1 t PATTERN 2 t PATTERN 3 t PATTERN 4 t PATTERN OFF

* The power illuminator will synchronize with the selected X-ROUND effect.
When you turn VOLUME +/ (or press VOLUME +/ on the remote), power illuminator shows the current volume level. During the demonstration display, you can

Some characters may not be displayed for file title, folder title or disc title.

You can make a program of up to 25 steps in the order you want them to be played back.
Press +/ repeatedly until the folder you want appears in the display, then press. or > repeatedly until the file number you want appears in the display.

Presetting radio stations
You can preset your favourite radio stations and tune them in instantly by selecting the corresponding preset number.

Creating your own sound effect
You can adjust the sound by raising or lowering the level of specific frequency band, then store the user equalizer in the memory. Before adjustment, select the preset effect you want for your basic sound.
6 To call up a preset radio station,
press TUNING MODE repeatedly until PRESET lights up in the display. Then, press TUNING +/ (or +/ on the remote) repeatedly to select the preset number you want.

Additional Information

Troubleshooting

Should you encounter a problem with your system, do the following:
The display starts flashing as soon as you plug in the power cord even though you have not turned on the system.
The demonstration mode started. Press "/1 (page 13).
The clock or timer setting is canceled.
1 Make sure the power cord and
speaker cords are connected correctly and firmly.
2 Find your problem in the
troubleshooting checklist below and take the indicated corrective action. If the problem persists after doing all of the above, consult your nearest Sony dealer. Note that if service personnel changes some parts during repair, these parts may be retained.
The power cord is disconnected or a power failure occurred. Redo Setting the clock (page 16). If you have set the timer, redo Using the timer (page 32).

The clock is not set. Set the clock (page 16). A power failure has occurred. Set the clock (page 16) and timer settings (page 32) again.

There is no sound.

When the "/1 indicator flashes
Immediately unplug the power cord and check the following items. Are the + and speaker cords shortcircuited? Are you using the supplied speakers? Is anything blocking the ventilation holes on the rear of the unit? After checking the above items and fixing any problems, plug in the power cord again and turn on the system. If the "/1 indicator still flashes, or if the cause of the problem can not be found even after checking all the above items, consult your nearest Sony dealer.
Turn VOLUME + clockwise (or press VOLUME + repeatedly on the remote). The headphones are connected to the PHONES jack. Check the speaker connections (page 11). Check the speaker system setting (page 25).

A stereo FM program can not be received in stereo.
Press FM MODE repeatedly until MONO disappears from the display.

Reading

The system is reading information of the disc. Some buttons are not available.

Unplug the power cord. Plug the power cord back in. Press "/1 to turn on the system.
You have cleared all the steps you programmed.
Press M (iPod), TUNING MODE and "/1 at the same time. COLD RESET appears in the display. The system is reset to the factory settings. You need to readjust all the settings you made, such as the preset stations, clock and timer.
You have reached the end of the disc while pressing M during playback or pause.

Slide and remove the battery compartment lid, and insert the two supplied R6 (size AA) batteries, E side first, matching the polarities shown below.

If you do not use the remote for a long period of time, remove the batteries to avoid possible damage from battery leakage and corrosion. With normal use, the batteries should last for about six months. When the remote no longer operates the system, replace both batteries with new ones. Batteries installed devices shall not be exposed to excessive heat such as sunshine, fire or the like.
To remove the iPod Dock Adapter, pull it up with your fingernail or a flat object using the slot inside the adapter.
Attaching the speaker pads
Attach the supplied speaker pads at each corner on the bottom of the front speakers to stabilize the speakers and to prevent them from slipping.

When carrying the unit

Do the following procedure to protect the disc mechanism. Use the buttons on the unit for the operation.

Positioning the speakers

You can place your speakers as shown below.

When transferring to an USB device for the first time, a MUSIC folder is created directly below the ROOT. Folders and MP3 files are generated within this MUSIC folder as follows according to the transferring method.

The program list is cleared when you perform the erase operation. You cannot erase audio files and folders in Shuffle Play mode or Program Play mode.
In Program Play mode, the folder name is PGM_xxx, and the file name depends on the transferring source (AUDIO CD or MP3 disc). 2) Up to 32 characters of the name are assigned. 3) Folder numbers are assigned serially thereafter. 4) File numbers are assigned serially thereafter. 5) A new file is transferred in the REC1 folder each time REC1 Transferring is performed.
Do not remove the USB device during transferring or erase operations. Doing so may corrupt the data on the USB device or damage the USB device itself. Do not connect the system and the USB device through an USB hub. You cannot eject the disc during transferring from disc to USB. When transferring from an MP3 disc, MP3 files are transferred with the same bit rate as the original MP3 files. When transferring from other sound source, the tracks are transferred as 128 kbps MP3 files. While transferring from an MP3 disc, no sound is output. If you cancel the transferring partway, an MP3 file is created up to the point when the transferring was stopped. Transferring stops automatically if: the USB device runs out of space during transferring. the number of audio files on the USB device reaches the limit for the number that the system can recognize. A folder that contains non-audio format files or sub folders cannot be erased. The maximum number of folders that can be created on a single USB device by this system is 997. The maximum number of MP3 files that can be created on a single USB device by this system is 999. The maximum number of audio files and folders may vary depending on the audio file and folder structure. If a folder or file that you are trying to transfer already exists on the USB device with the same name, a sequential number is added after the name without overwriting the original folder or file. If you perform transferring after the erase operation, the new transferred files or folders may have the name that same as the erased files or folders. Therefore, the playback sequence may different from the transferring sequence.

Listening to music of an USB device
You can listen to music stored in an optional USB device by connecting it to the (USB) port on the unit. The audio formats that can be played back by this system are as follows: MP3*/WMA*/AAC* When playback from a USB device, you can select the internal memory or memory card as a playback source. For details, see steps 1 to 6 of To select the transferring destination on the USB device (page 22). See Compatible devices with this system (page 52) for a list of USB devices that can be connected to this system.
* Files with copyright protection (Digital Rights Management) cannot be played back by this system. Files downloaded from an online music store may not be played back by this system.

Playing the iPod

You can listen to audio contents stored in the iPod on this system.
1 Press iPod 1 or iPod 2.

Using the remote:

Press and hold CHANNEL A, then press FUNCTION +/ repeatedly to select iPod 1. Press FUNCTION +/ repeatedly to select iPod 2.

2 Place the iPod(s).

When placing or removing the iPod, brace the unit with one hand and take care not to press the controls of the iPod by mistake. Before disconnecting the iPod, pause playback. Depending on the connected iPod, you may not able to use m or M while playing video. In this case, you can fast rewind or fast forward by holding down l or L (or. or > on the remote). To change the volume level, use VOLUME +/. The volume level does not change even if adjusted on the iPod. This iPod 1 and iPod 2 connector are designed for iPod only. You cannot connect any other portable audio players. To use an iPod, refer to the operating instructions of your iPod. Sony cannot accept responsibility in the event that data recorded to iPod is lost or damage when using an iPod with this unit. Some iPod operations may not be performed using buttons on the unit or remote.
You can control your iPod with the following buttons on the remote or unit. The remote buttons are assigned to control functions on CHANNEL B, if you want to control the iPod connected to the iPod 1 connector, press and hold CHANNEL A, then press the button you want.

3 Press HS on respective

CHANNEL (or N* on the remote) to start playback.
* To play back the iPod 1, press and hold CHANNEL A, then press this button.
To control the iPod connected to the iPod 1 connector, use the buttons on CHANNEL A on the unit. If you want to control the iPod using the remote, press and hold CHANNEL A, then press the button you want. When you connect an iPod to the unit, the iPod is automatically turned on if the system is turned on. When placing or removing the iPod, handle the iPod in the same angle as that of the iPod connector on the unit and do not twist or sway the iPod to prevent connector damage. Do not carry the unit with an iPod set on the connector. Doing so may cause a malfunction.
Pause playback Scroll up/down the iPod menus
Press HS (or X on the remote). Turn the JOG DIAL (or press V/v repeatedly on the remote).

With the beat functions, you can enjoy a variety of rhythms. They can be used with any source.

Using the drum pads

BEAT BLEND
With the drum pads, you can add percussion during playback. This effect can be used with any source.

to turn off the beat pattern.
2 Hold down BEAT PATTERN and
turn JOG DIAL to select the beat pattern you want.
3 Press BPM CONTROL once to

start the tempo input.

Add the drum sound Change the drum sound
Press PAD I or PAD II to produce the respective sound. Hold down PAD I or PAD II, then turn JOG DIAL to select the sound you want. The name of the drum sound appears in the display. The sound you select will be stored in PAD I or PAD II.

music, press BPM CONTROL 4 times to input the tempo. Each time you press BPM CONTROL, the flashing B will be replaced with a box.

Create a drum roll

1 Hold down PAD I and
PAD II. CHAIN appears in the display. 2 Turn JOG DIAL clockwise to output the PAD II sound and counterclockwise to output the PAD I sound. Press BEAT LEVEL repeatedly.
5 Press BPM CONTROL again to
start playback of the beat pattern. The BPM (Beat Per Minute) value appears in the display.
To change the beat pattern
Hold down BEAT PATTERN and turn JOG DIAL to select the beat pattern you want. The name of the beat pattern appears in the display.

Hold down BEAT SPEED and turn JOG DIAL to select the speed you want (BPM 40 200).
The PAD I and PAD II indicator light up when you press the respective button.
To return the beat speed to default setting (BPM 120)
Press MENU/RETURN on CHANNEL A and BEAT SPEED simultaneously.
The beat tempo input is canceled if you press any buttons other than BPM CONTROL. If you input the tempo less than BPM 40, Hit Faster appears in the display. Hit again in faster tempo. If you input the tempo more than BPM 200, Hit Slower appears in the display. Hit again in slower tempo. If the tempo of the beat pattern does not match the tempo of the music, change the speed manually after you input the tempo.

The program you made remains in the systems memory even after it has been played back. Press HS on CHANNEL B (or N on the remote) to play back the same program again. If --.-- appears instead of the total playing time during programming, this means: you have programmed a track in an AUDIO CD with track number exceeds 20. the total playing time has exceeded 100 minutes. you have programmed an audio file.

Preset number

3 Press +/ repeatedly to select
the preset number you want. If another station is already assigned to the selected preset number, the station is replaced by the new stations.
Complete! appears in the display. The station is stored.

stations. You can preset up to 20 FM and 10 AM stations.
Using the Radio Data System (RDS)
(European model only) What is the Radio Data System?
Radio Data System (RDS) is a broadcasting service that allows radio stations to send additional information along with the regular program signal. This tuner offers convenient RDS features like station name. RDS is available only on FM stations.*
* Not all FM stations provide RDS service, nor do they provide the same types of services. If you are not familiar with the RDS system, check with your local radio stations for details on RDS services in your area.
6 To call up a preset radio station,
press TUNING MODE repeatedly until PRESET lights up in the display. Then, press +/ repeatedly to select the preset number you want.

To cancel presetting

Press TUNER MEMORY.
RDS may not work properly if the station you are tuned in is not transmitting the RDS signal properly or if the signal is weak.

Receiving RDS broadcasts

Simply select a station from FM band. When you tune in a station that provides RDS services, the station name appears in the display.

To check the RDS information
While receiving an RDS station, press DISPLAY repeatedly. RDS information appears on the display.
Ajusting the sound effect
You can adjust the sound by raising or lowering the level of specific frequency band. Turn LOW jog to adjust the level of low frequency band. Turn MID jog to adjust the level of medium frequency band. Turn HIGH jog to adjust the level of high frequency band. The setting is entered automatically.

Singing along

You can sing along with any audio source that play back on this system.
1 Turn MIC LEVEL to MIN to
reduce the microphone volume.
2 Connect an optional microphone

to MIC jack.

3 Start playing the music and

adjust the volume.

4 Turn MIC LEVEL to adjust the
microphone volume. If acoustic feedback (howling) occurs, reduce the volume, move the microphone away from the speakers, or change the direction of the microphone. After you have finished, turn MIC LEVEL to MIN, then disconnect the microphone from the MIC jack.

Play Timer:

Using the timer
The system offers three timer functions.

Sleep Timer

You can set the system to turn off after a certain time, so that you can fall asleep to music.
Press SLEEP on the remote repeatedly.
You can wake up to music from disc, iPod 2, tuner or optional USB device at a preset time. You can only set the Play Timer for audio source on CHANNEL B only.

Recording Timer:

You can transfer onto a transferable USB device from a preset station at a specified time.
1 Prepare the sound source.

For Play Timer:

The minute display (turn-off time) changes. If you select AUTO, the system automatically turns off after the current disc or USB device stops or after 100 minutes. When you played back the source on CHANNEL A and B simultaneously, the system will turns off after the playback on CHANNEL B stops. Do not select AUTO during CD-USB Synchronized Transfer or the erase operation.
The system is not turned off on the preset time during the USB erase operation. The system will only automatically turns off after the USB erase operation finish.

Use a disc that conforms to ISO9660 Level 1/Level 2, or Joliet (expansion format). The ID3 tag is not version 1 or version 2. The character code that can be displayed by this system are as follows: Upper cases (A to Z) Lower cases (a to z) Numbers (0 to 9) Symbols (< > * +, ? / [ ] \ _) Other characters may not be displayed correctly.
ID3 tag information for MP3 audio files is displayed when the files have ID3 version 1 or ID3 version 2. If there are ID3 version 1 and version 2 tags, ID3 version 2 tag information has priority.
Transferring to an USB device results in an error.
You cannot start transferring to an USB device.
The following problems may have occurred. The USB device is full. The number of audio file and folder that system can recognize has reached the upper limit. The USB device is write-protected.
Transferring is stopped before it is finished.
You are using an unsupported USB device. See Compatible devices with this system (page 52) for the supported device types. The USB device is not formatted correctly. Refer to the USB device operating instructions for how to format. Turn off the system and remove the USB device. Then, turn on the system. If the USB device has a power switch, turn the USB device off and then on again after removing it from the system. Then perform transferring again. If the transferring and erase operations are repeated multiple times, the file structure within the USB device becomes complex. Refer to operating instructions of the USB device on how to remedy this problem.
You are using an unsupported USB device. See Compatible devices with this system (page 52) for the supported device types. The USB device was disconnected or the power was turned off during transferring. Delete the partiallytransferred file, and transfer again. If this does not fix the problem, the USB device may be broken. Refer to operating instructions of the USB device on how to remedy this problem. Turn off the system and remove the USB device. If the USB device has a power switch, turn the USB device off and then on again after removing it from the system. Then perform transferring again.
Audio files or folders on the USB device cannot be erased.
Check if the USB device is writeprotected. The USB device was disconnected or the power was turned off during the erase operation. Delete the partiallyerased track. If this does not fix the problem, the USB device may be broken. Refer to operating instructions of the USB device on how to remedy this problem.
Are you using a supported USB device?

If you connect an unsupported USB device, the following problems may occur. See Compatible devices with this system (page 52) for the supported device types. The USB device is not recognized. File or folder names are not displayed on this system. Playback is not possible. The sound skips. There is noise. A distorted sound is output. Transferring stops before it is finished. Continued l

A problem has been detected with the level of electrical current from the (USB) port. Turn off the system and remove the USB device from the (USB) port. Make sure there is no problem with the USB device. If this display pattern persists, contact your nearest Sony dealer.
No Medium appears in display.
USB Reading is displayed for an extended time, or it takes a long time before playback starts.
Check the memory device on the Sony Ericsson mobile phone.
The USB device is not connected correctly. Turn off the system, then connect the USB device again and check if USB MEMORY lights up in the display.
There is noise, skipping, or distorted sound.
The reading process can take a long time in the following cases. There are many folders or files on the USB device. The file structure is extremely complex. The memory capacity is excessive. The internal memory is fragmented. Thus, we recommend following these guidelines. Total folders on USB device: 100 or less Total files per folder: 100 or less

Erroneous display.

Turn off the system, then connect the USB device again. The music data itself contains noise, or the sound is distorted. Noise may have entered during the transferring process. Delete the file, and try transferring again.
The USB device cannot be connected into the (USB) port.
The data stored in the USB device may have been corrupted, perform the transferring again. The character code that can be displayed by this system are as follows: Upper cases (A to Z) Lower cases (a to z) Numbers (0 to 9) Symbols (< > * +, ? / [ ] \ _) Other characters may not be displayed correctly.
The USB device is not recognized.
The USB device is being connected backwards. Connect the USB device in the correct orientation.
Turn off the system, then reconnect the USB device. Connect the supported USB device (page 52). The USB device does not work properly. Refer to the USB device operating instructions for how to deal with this problem. If the problem persists, contact your nearest Sony dealer.

Turn off the system, then connect the USB device again. Connect the supported USB device (page 52). Press HS (or N on the remote) to start playback.
Set the play mode to Normal Play (page 26).
The audio files cannot be played back.
MP3 files in MP3 PRO format cannot be played back. Some AAC files may not be played back correctly. WMA files in Windows Media Audio Lossless and Professional format cannot be played back. The data is not stored in MP3/WMA/ AAC format. USB device formatted with file systems other than FAT16, or FAT32 (cluster size 512 byte 32 kbyte) are unsupported.* If you use partitioned USB device, only audio files on the first partition can be played back. Playback is possible up to 8 folder levels. The number of folders has exceeded 997. The number of audio files has exceeded 999. Files that are encrypted or protected by passwords, etc. cannot be played back.
* This system supports FAT16 and FAT32, but some USB device may not support all of these FAT. For details, see the operating instructions of each USB device or contact the manufacturer.
Make sure the iPod is connected securely. Make sure the iPod is playing music. Adjust the volume. Depending on the contents of the iPod, it may take time to start playback. You are using an unsupported iPod. See Compatible devices with this system (page 52) for the supported device types. Check the CROSS FADER slider position (page 31).

The sound is distorted.

Reduce the volume. Set the EQ setting of the iPod to Off or Flat.
The iPod cannot be charged.
Make sure the iPod is connected securely.
There is severe hum or noise. (TUNED or STEREO flashes in the display)
Set the proper band and frequency (page 20). Connect the antenna properly (page 13). Find a place and an orientation that provide good reception, then set up the antenna again. If you cannot obtain good reception, we recommend that you connect a commercially available external antenna. The supplied FM lead antenna receives signals along its entire length, so make sure you extend it fully. Locate the antennas as far away from the speaker cords as possible. Try turning off the surrounding electrical equipment.
A stereo FM program cannot be received in stereo.
Press FM MODE on the remote repeatedly until MONO disappears from the display.
