over-priced Not much better - if at all - than the MDR NC60, which is now much less than half the price. Sony MDR- NC500 does exactly what it says on the can I purchased the NC500 as a replacement for the Sony NC6 that I purchased back in 2004.

I use this product with my i-pod and with my computer. Comfortable","Compact","Compact size","Durable","Fits good","Good Bass","Good for travel". The Sony MDR-NC500D Digital Noise Cancelling Headphones and one of the best set of noise cancelling headphone I have experienced.

Good but at a price I fly long haul quite regularly and felt the price was worth the investment considering what you pay for a business class ticket t... Worth every penny. Bought these for a long haul flight to Australia. Cancelled out engine and cabin noise brilliantly. Good sound quality.

Not so great on an airplane Just like others have written, I experienced a "pressure wave" when using these on an airplane. Sounds like a whisper at full volume I recently drove myself, after a lot of careful consideration.

These are just great These head phones compete directly with the Bose noise cancelling head phones, and at half the price. They are lightweight, effective. I had used a friends Bose noise canceling headphones on a plane one time and wanted a pair to use when i travel or just want to get away.

Consumer Reports Was Wrong On This One I am a big believer in Consumer Reports. Annoying intermittent thump Bought this to replace my Bose noise cancelling headphones whose headband broke.

NOTES ON HANDLING THE OPTICAL PICK-UP BLOCK OR BASE UNIT The laser diode in the optical pick-up block may suffer electrostatic break-down because of the potential difference generated by the charged electrostatic load, etc. on clothing and the human body. During repair, pay attention to electrostatic break-down and also use the procedure in the printed matter which is included in the repair parts. The flexible board is easily damaged and should be handled with care. NOTES ON LASER DIODE EMISSION CHECK The laser beam on this model is concentrated so as to be focused on the disc reflective surface by the objective lens in the optical pickup block. Therefore, when checking the laser diode emission, observe from more than 30 cm away from the objective lens. LASER DIODE AND FOCUS SEARCH OPERATION CHECK Carry out the S curve check in CD section adjustment and check that the S curve waveform is output four times.

Record Bias Adjustment (Deck B) Procedure: INTRODUCTION When set to the test mode performed in Tape Speed Adjustment, when the tape is rewound after recording, the REC memory mode which rewinds only the recorded portion and playback is set. This REC memory mode is convenient for performing this adjustment. During recording, the input signal FUNCTION will automatically switch to VIDEO 1. (After recording, press the 0 button without stopping will return to the position where recording was started.) 1. Press FUNCTION button to select VIDEO 1. Note: 1. CD Block is basically constructed to operate without adjustment. Therefore, check each item in order given. 2. Use YEDS-18 disc (3-702-101-01) unless otherwise indicated. 3. Use an oscilloscope with more than 10M impedance. 4. Clean the object lens by an applicator with neutral detergent when the signal level is low than specified value with the following checks. Procedure : 1. Connect the oscilloscope to test points TP (FE) and TP (VC). 2. Connect TP (FEI) and GND, and TP (AGCCON) and GND of the BD board with lead wires. 3. Press the 1/u button to turn the set ON. 4. With the disc (YEDS-18) loaded, press the P button and perform focus search. (Focus search will be performed in the same way even while the disc table is pushed in and out.) 5. Check the symmetry and peak to peak level of the oscilloscope waveform (S curve) at this time.
