Why LIB81?

With the release of this 5th generation, the Sony AIT format has reached its 10-year anniversary. AIT-5 achieves the original Sony goal to introduce a new generation every 2 years; ensuring AIT is one of the only tape formats in the industry that has delivered against its published roadmap. Integrate AIT-5 into a Sony LIB81 autoloader and an incredible 3.2TB capacity is possible in only 1U size. With read & write backwards compatibility with AIT-3, AIT-3Ex and AIT-4 generations, AIT-5 also is the ideal drive for the current AIT user with fast growing data storage needs. And through the use of Write-OnceRead-Many (WORM) media, AIT-5 also helps facilitate compliance with European data retention regulations too. The LIB81 is a slim rack mount tape autoloader featuring a simple mechanism for reliable tape rotation. Up to eight data cartridges can be stored in the 1U height consuming the minimal amount of rack space possible. With system set-up and monitoring carried out easily from a web browser on a client PC, or from the front panel, ongoing management should be minimal too.
