| Good camera for infrared photography I bought this camera for infrared photography and am pleased with it using the night mode and an IR filter. Sony DSCF707 I have had three of these cameras since 2001. The first was stolen when I was mugged on the steps of the St. Deny Basilica in Paris. Obsoleted by Sony? The DSCF707 has a great lens and a lot of functionality (including full manual mode, infra-red capabilities, mpeg w/ audio, etc.). | |

DSC-R1
Cyber-shot Digital Still Camera
Step-up Feature
3 New Feature
The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-R1 is the world's first camera (as of Sept. '05) to combine a huge APS-class image sensor with Live Preview. The result is a combination of compact size, versatility and superb picture quality. At more than 12 times the size of the typical sensor, Sony's APS class CMOS sensor delivers high sensitivity, low noise and a phenomenal 10.3 megapixels of resolution.
v3 10.3
Megapixel CMOS image sensor Sony's first digital camera with a Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor (CMOS) image sensor, the DSC-R1 delivers fabulous detail, perfect for giant, poster-sized prints, professional 4-color offset printing and other advanced applications. Live Preview Pros count on being able to see what the camera sees. Live Preview of the scene in the electronic viewfinder and LCD monitor shows 100% framing accuracy for total confidence. You can preview exposure and depth of focus so you know what you're getting before you take the shot! Zeiss Vario-Sonnar 5X Optical Zoom Lens The 5X Optical Zoom lens covers an incredible range from an ultra-wide 24 mm to 120 mm (35mm equivalent). Exclusive Zeiss T* (T-star) coatings reduce internal reflections, suppress lens flare and improve image contrast. Remarkably Wide 24mm Angle (35mm Equivalent) Captures scenic and group photos beyond the reach of most D-SLR zoom lenses. 0-15X Smart Zoom Feature (at VGA Resolution) The Smart Zoom feature intelligently uses the CMOS imager to let you zoom into the portion of interest by cropping the image size-thus avoiding the image degradation of Digital Zooms. Real Imaging Processor Technology The innovative Real Imaging Processor in the DSC-R1 not only improves picture quality and clarity but also improves camera response time, decreases shutter lag and improves battery stamina.
v3 Three
Color Modes and RAW Capture Choose standard sRGB for accuracy, Vivid sRGB to emulate reversal film, or Adobe RGB for advanced applications. RAW mode brings the latent image into the digital darkroom. RAW files must be converted with Sonys Image Data Converter SRF software. Gradation Control System (AGCS) Enhances dynamic range, avoids crushed shadow detail and clipped highlights. Eye-Level Electronic TTL Viewfinder. SLR-style shooting gives you a more stable shooting platform, with elbows tucked in to reduce camera shake. 14-Bit DXP A/D Conversion Sony's 14-bit Digital EXtended Processor captures the range between highlight and shadow with up to 16,384 values, for extended dynamic contrast and detail. 2.0 LCD Monitor. The DSC-includes a built-in 2.0 LCD monitor that turns and twists through a wide range. Hold the camera overhead, position it at your waist, even lower it to the floor to get your shot easily. Viewfinder/Monitor Displays. Choose grid lines, zebra stripes and histogram. Enjoy full-time exposure indication of aperture, shutter speed and Exposure Value over/under. Advanced Creative Control. Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority, Program shift, EV compensation and full manual exposure control allow you to adjust quickly for a wide range of shooting situations. Capture fast action, control depth of field and more.
v3 Versatile
Manual Exposure. Adjust the aperture from F2.8-16. Set the shutter from 30 seconds to 1/2000 second, or choose Bulb exposure for up to 3 minutes! Adjust ISO from 160 to 3200. Choose Auto White Balance then fine-tune color temperature by hand. Histogram Display and RGB Playback Available in capture and playback the Live Histogram displays the concentration of pixels at each luminosity value making it easy to evaluate correct exposure. Histogram in Playback mode also includes RGB information 5 Area Multi-Point AF System By evaluating 5 separate focus areas of the frame, Sonys Multi-Point AF system can intelligently focus on the subject and avoid mistakenly focusing on the background. In addition, you can manually select a point, or position a point anywhere in the frame with Flexible Spot AF. Manual Exposure Control Flexible Exposure control is provided with Aperture Priority (f2.0~16.0), Shutter Priority (30sec~1/3200 sec) and Manual Exposure modes. Exposure Value Compensation (EV) and Flash output level control allow for even more control over your images. Slow Shutter Noise Reduction During long exposures, those longer than 1/25 second, the camera captures two exposures with each press of the shutter button. The first exposure captures the scene, and the second exposure captures the CCD noise pattern with a dark frame exposure. By subtracting the two, even long exposures can be clear.
