1. Operating instructions for the user and contractor
1.1 General instructions
Read these instructions carefully i before using the unit and retain them for future reference. If ownership should change please pass these instructions to the new owner. In the case of maintenance or repair work, please pass them to the contractor for reference. Subject to the respective system, also observe the installation and operating instructions for the system's components. Freestanding DHW cylinders SBB.WP and SBB.WP SOL are specially designed for heating DHW with heat pumps. The heat from the heat pump's heating water is transferred to the DHW by bare-tube internal indirect coils in the cylinder. Refer to the heat pumps' engineering documents for information on sizing the freestanding DHW cylinder. Special features of the SBB 401 WP SOL The DHW cylinder SBB 401 WP SOL is also equipped with a second internal indirect coil for solar DHW heating.
1.3 Unit description
1.2 Important instructions
When a BGC is installed or used with a solar heating system, a DHW temperature of over 60C can occur at the outlet. Small children should be kept away from such outlets. Risk of scalding. The freestanding DHW cylinder, safety assembly and built-in accessory components should be checked regularly by your local contractor. These units are under water mains pressure. During the heating process, expansion water will drip from the safety valve. If water continues to drip when heating is completed, please inform your local contractor. Internally the steel cylinder has a special enamel coating to protect it from corrosion; it also has a protective anode with consumption display (display element). Once the signal anode is used up, humidity reaches the display element A B (14), causing a colour change. If the display element turns red, please contact your local contractor, who will check the signal anode and change it if necessary.
1.4 Maintenance and care
Maintenance work such as checking the electrical safety should only be carried out by a qualified contractor. Almost every type of water deposits lime at high temperatures. This is deposited within the cylinder and on the integral components, affecting their function and service life. The integral components should therefore be descaled from time to time. Your local contractor will know about the local water quality and will tell you when a service is due. A damp cloth is all you need to care for the plastic parts. Never use abrasive or corrosive cleaning agents.

2.9 Water connection
2.6 Removing/fitting the cylinder casing
The cylinder casing is fitted in its delivered condition. Note: It must be opened or removed when connecting the DHW circulation and heat exchanger lines. However, it must be fitted when installing a BGC radiator. The plinth trim should be fitted after the tightness check.
2.7 Display element
The signal anode is fitted in its delivered condition. Check the display element for any transport damage. Caution: The freestanding DHW cylinder must not be operated if the display element is damaged because water will escape once the anode is consumed.
2.8 Heating installation
The installation of the heating circuit is shown in Figure E. The bare-tube heat exchangers must be flushed with water before connecting the heating water pipes. If the DHW cylinder SBB 401 WP SOL is being operated without a solar installation, the two bare-tube heat exchangers at connections 3 and 4 B should be connected in series on site.
Install the DHW outlet pipe. Install the cold water inlet pipe C. Connecting pipe a may be installed between the feet as an option. Counter with a spanner b when joining pipes. Check the stability of the connecting pipes; if necessary, tighten them further on site. If necessary the cold water connection can be installed directly to connection c. Water connection Please observe local and national board regulations and codes practise. The system is designed to operate directly on mains water supply and a package of controls are provided for this purpose. See D for general arrangement in schematic form. The controls can be fitted in various positions to suit the space available but they must be placed in the same order as shown. The controls provided in the package are fitted to the cold water supply with the exeption of the temperature / pressure relief valve at the top of the heater. The inlet connection is 1 male B.S.P. on all sizes of water heaters, the controls are . To obtain equal water pressures in the cold and hot water supplies, the cold water draw off should be positioned directly on the outlet side of the pressure limiting valve as shown in D (Item 5). The pressure limiting valve will reduce pressure to 3,5 bar. The safety valve is set at 6 bar and the temperature / pressure relief valve at 7 bar and should not operate under normal working conditions as the expansion vessel will take in water as
it expands during the heating process. The safety valve and temperature / pressure relief valve must be piped to a drain via a tundish - see D. The purpose of the tundish is that water must be seen should the valves operate. The pipe should not exeed 9 metres in length without forming an air break ie. tundish. The pipe must fall continuously throughout its length with no more than these 90 bends. It must be heat resistant and discharge to safe visible position. The pipe diameter must not be smaller than the valve outlet. The two discharge pipes can be joined together at the point of discharge into a single tundish if required. Fill the freestanding cylinder with water by opening the DHW valve and rinse thoroughly. Check the tightness. Information regarding the DHW circulation line: If a DHW circulation line is installed it is fitted to connection 6 A B.

Features of the SBP 700 E and the SPB 700 E SOL (B) The two polyurethane foam segments, attached to both sides of the cylinder, can be removed to ensure safe transportation of the cylinder through narrow passages and doorways. To do this, undo the retaining straps (17) at the buckles (18). In the installed condition, the buckles should be near a joint (segment/ cylinder thermal insulation). Information about using additional connectors for the sensor protection sleeve of the SBP 700 cylinder (B) Should it be necessary to install further sensor protection sleeves in the cylinder, two additional connectors are available at the top and bottom, under the foam insulation (11). To do this, drill holes at the marked places of the plastic casing with, for example, a 70 mm hole saw. Remove the thermal insulation from around the connectors so that the sensor protection sleeves can be fitted.
rature pressure gauge replaces the vent plug (26). It is recommended that the components in the WPKl 3 set and the selected circulation pump are connected to the cylinder and tightened by hand before installation. Once all components have been connected to the cylinder, tighten all fittings. Connect the expansion vessel and the fill/drain valve to the pre-determined connector (32). Connect heat pump flow and return to the heat pump at positions (28) and (29). Ensure that it is impossible to shutoff the safety valve on the heat source. When there is a risk of frost in the alternative system, install a drain valve on-site to drain the external air/water heat pump (WPL connection hoses). All shut-off devices are ball shut-off valves, which provide a good seal. A spanner (SW 19) is recommended to open and close the shut-off valves (24). Circulation pump (cylinder primary pump) The pump output curve (F) and the pressure loss of the WPKl 3 (G) can provide helpful information on which circulation pump set to select. Subject to the heat pump type and the following connection mode (H), at standard length, we recommend a circulation pump set from the following table.
2.7 Commissioning
(to be implemented only by a qualied contractor)
Fill and vent the freestanding cylinder. Follow user and installation instructions and check the functions of special accessories (immersion heater). Check the safety valve function.
2.8 Maintenance
When working on permanently fitted electrical components, disconnect every part of the equipment from the mains. Regularly vent the safety valve until water flows from it. Shut off the safety valve after the inspection. Deutsch 5
2.5 Immersion heater installation (C, D)
To boost the heat input, one electric immersion heater can be installed into the SBP 200 E (either from the right or from the left); two immersion heaters can be installed into model SBP 700 E.
