Do not disassemble, repair or modify the player by yourself. Refer servicing to qualified personnel only. Keep the player clean and never store it close to heat sources or dirty, humid or rainy places and avoid direct sunlight. If the surface is dirty, please clean it with soft cloth wet with clean water or soft cleaning fluids and never clean the case with alcohol or aggressive diluents. Never use the player in extremely dry environment to avoid static discharging. Never apply heavy impact on the player like dropping it or placing it on a magnet.
The battery used in this device may cause a fire or chemical burn if mistreated. Do not disassemble, incinerate, or heat the battery. Do not dispose the player in fire to avoid explosion because the player has built-in battery. Do not leave the battery in a place subject to direct sunlight, or in a car with its windows closed. Do not press the player with bare hands if the built-in battery is leaking. In this case, contact service center for help since the liquid may remain in the player. If your body or clothes has been contacted with the battery liquid, wash it off thoroughly with water. Also, if some of liquid gets into your eyes, do not rub your eyes but immediately wash them with clean water, and consult a doctor. Do not connect the player to a power source other than that indicated in this manual or on the label as this may result in the risk of fire or electric shock.

Never use the player during driving a car or using other vehicles to avoid traffic accidents. This is also content of the law of some countries. Even while walking it may be dangerous especially when crossing the street. Please do not listen in extremely high volume to avoid any dangers. Wherever potential risks may arise, please do not use the player to ensure your safety. Hearing experts advise against the constant use of personal stereos played at high volume. Constant exposure to high volumes can lead to hearing loss. If you should experience ringing in the ears or hearing loss, discontinue use and seek medical advice. Please insert the earphone prior to turn on the player, which can not only avoid damaging the earphone but keep the player in good condition also. Turn off the player when it is not used.
Conneting to a PC
Never disconnect the player from PC during downloading, uploading and formatting to avoid failures and losses of data. When the player is used as removable disk, please follow strictly the given file download and upload procedures. Our company does not resume any responsibility for any data losses due to misuse.

Please charge the battery immediately when the display indicates low battery, or the device will be powered off automatically. In this case, all settings will be saved. Please disconnect the player from PC properly to avoid data loss. Battery service life may be various from different using conditions, manufacturer and manufacturing time. Avoid losses of data by regularly making backups of your data. In both power on and power off state, the player may be charged by the connection to PC via the USB line.

Connect to a PC and download audio files
To connect the player with the PC for transferring files: Plug the larger end of the USB cable to the USB port of the PC, and plug the smaller end to the USB port of the player. Important: Copy music files to the MUSIC.DIR folder or to the root directory. Copy movie files to the MOVIE.DIR folder. Copy photo files to the PHOTO.DIR folder. Copy text files to the TEXT.DIR folder. Windows It may take Windows several minutes to recognize and set up the device the first time it is connected depending on your hardware configuration. Locate the files you would like to transfer from your computer. Select the files/folders with the mouse and press APPLE-C (copy) on thekeyboard. Click on the Removable Disk icon located on the left side of the finder window. The computer will display all files and folders currently stored in the player. Press APPLE-V (paste) on the keyboard to transfer the files you selected to the player.
Removing the player safely from the PC
Windows2000/XP 1. Left click the icon at the right hand corner of the taskbar. 2. Click on the pop-up mini-window with message of Safely Remove the USB Mass Storage Device Drive (X:). 3. When you are prompted to remove the device, pull out the player. Windows98 Please make sure the data transfer is completed before unplugging the MP3 player. Macintosh 1. Charging the battery
The unit is equipped with a rechargeable Lithium Polymer battery. If the icon is displayed the battery has to be charged. Please charge the player with the provided USB cable at the PC. Upon initial use, the battery should be charged fully (8 hours) to ensure optimal performance and battery life. To charge the battery, connect the larger end of the USB cable to the USB interface of PC, and connect the other smaller end of the USB cable to the USB interface of this player. The charging starts immediately after the connection is made. When the player is connected and charging, a USB symbol will be displayed on the players screen. Important: 1. Do not connect the player to a power source other than that which is indicated here or on the label as this may result in the risk of fire or electric shock. 2. If the player gets unusually hot during charging, or you will note any strange behaviour, disconnect the player immediately from PC or charging unit and contact your local dealer. 3. If the player has not been used in a while, the battery may need to be recharged overnight (about 8 hours). 4. The computer must be powered on and not in sleep mode.

After the player is turned on, it will be in the main menu. The main menu offers eight functions: Music: Pictures: Movies: Radio: E-Books: Record: Explorer: Settings: Browse and play music. Note: If you have loaded new music files onto the player, the music library will need to be refreshed when you enter Music mode. This process may take several minutes. You will not be able to access the Music Browser screen until you refresh the music library. Press and hold M until the main menu is displayed. Select with Music and confirm with. If your music files contain ID3 song information tags, you will be able to view your tracks by Artist, Album, or Genre. To view all files (including those that do not contain ID3 information), select All songs or use the Browser option. To create a quick Play List that contains your favorite songs:

To start playing music, browse for a song and then press to start playback. When a song is playing, the Now Playing screen appears (see below). Album Cover Widget Function
Some music files contain ID3 tag information like the name of the artist, the name of the album, the cover art, or genre information, which can be displayed by the player. The widget is able to fetch this information during downloads. Important: Normally only original copyright protected files contain this information. If the music file does not contain entries in the ID3 tag, the player will display a symbol showing a rotating CD.

This player supports the lyrics function of MP3 playback. Important Lyrics file format has to be *.LRC. File name has to be the same as the songs name. Lyrics file has to be placed in the folder of the song.

Enter Explorer mode to view and delete all folders and files loaded on your player. Press and hold M until the main menu is displayed. To customize the player settings: 1. In the main menu, select the Settings item and press to enter the system settings mode. 2. Press or to select setting item. Confirm with. Pressing the button or M brings you one level up into the next menu.
Power Sleep Set the duration of time (in minutes) that the player will remain on when it is idle. The settng of "OFF" will disable the Power or to set the Saving feature. Use values. Adjust the duration of time (in seconds) that the backlight will remain on after a button press. A setting of Always On will keep the backlight on continuously. Use or to set the values. It may become necessary to format your player if data or files become corrupt. You may choose either Quick or Complete formatting. A Complete format will take more time. Restore all of the player's settings to their factory-default state. Information about the product Sort all music that loaded on your player. Select Force Sort to update the music library immediately. This process may take several minutes if you have transferred music files to the player recently.

From time to time, TEAC may release firmware upgrades to improve the performance of the Player or to add additional features. Please check the TEAC website periodically at www.teac.de to see if new firmware has been released for your player. If you are experiencing abnormal behavior with your player, you may choose to restore (format) your player before updating its firmware. Very important: Before using this function, please first backup all data in the player. Confirm that the BATTERY charge is sufficient. Do not interrupt the firmware upgrade process doing so could damage your player and render it inoperable. See the documentation that is included with the firmware upgrade file for detailed instructions.

Warranty Period TEAC Europe GmbH, hereinafter called TEAC, warrants this product against any defect in material and workmanship for two (2) years from the date of purchase by the original retail purchaser. According to the following terms this TEAC product will be repaired without charge of labor and materials by the authorized TEAC service stations, by the authorized TEAC dealers and/or their authorized service stations. TEAC, the authorized TEAC service stations, the authorized TEAC dealers and/or their authorized service stations may decide whether the defective product will be repaired or replaced as a whole or partially. The TEAC dependancies, the authorized TEAC service stations, the authorized TEAC dealers and/or their authorized service stations will also honor this warranty in the other EC and EFTA member states based on the terms in this warranty conditions.
What is Covered and What is Not Covered. Except as specified below, this warranty covers any defects in materials and workmanship of this product. The following are not covered by the warranty: 1. Damage to or deterioration of the external cabinet. 2. Any unit that has been altered or on which the serial number has been defaced, modified, or removed. 3. Damage, deterioration or malfunction resulting from: (a) accident, misuse, abuse or neglect; (b) failure to follow instructions supplied with the product; (c) any shipment of the product. Any damage arising of transportation is the liability of the freight company. Any damage arising of transportation and any implicit and explicit risks are the liability of the freight company. Do not touch the player with bare hands if the built-in battery is leaking. In this case, contact service center for help since the liquid may remain in the player. If your body or clothes has been contacted with the battery liquid, wash it off thoroughly with water. Also, if some of liquid gets into your eyes, do not rub your eyes but immediately wash them with clean water, and consult a doctor. Never use the player while driving a car or using other vehicles to avoid traffic accidents. This is also content of the law of some countries. Even while walking it may be dangerous especially when crossing the street. Hearing experts' advice against the constant use of personal stereos played at high volume. Constant exposure to high volumes can lead to hearing loss. If you should experience ringing in the ears or hearing loss, discontinue use and seek medical advice. Never disconnect the player from PC during downloading, uploading and formatting to avoid failures and losses of data. Only use batteries, charging adapters, and accessories which were approved from TEAC for using it with a certain device model. Using other types of equipment may void the approval for use, and/or warranty claims. Furthermore there may be dangerous implications. Please ask in case your vendor for approved accessories. Supplied or connected to units cabling is subject to wearout. Especially carrying it in trouser pockets or other insufficient carrying cases, bending it, strong pulling, or buckling it, may lead to premature failure and to damages. Please ensure correct handling and keep the cabling carefully furled in cases which will void stresses to it. Whenever cables are disconnected never pull the cable. Pull the plug instead.

Do not subject the device to severe impact or drop it from high position. Do not use the player in extreme hot or cold, dusty or damp field. Do not expose it to direct sunshine. Back up the data frequently in case of accident data loss. Avoid using the player in strong magnetic field. Keep the device away from water or other liquids. In the event that water or other liquids enter the device, power off the product immediately, and clean the device. Do not use chemical solutions to clean the device in order to avoid corrosion. Clean it with a dry cloth. We are not responsible for damages or lost data caused by malfunction, misusing, repairing the device or battery replacement. Do not attempt to disassemble, repair or modify the product. This will invalidate guarantee. The design of the player or actual display may be different from what is shown in this manual. It should be subject to the actual display or design.
The supplied batteries are subject to wearout. Their capacity and therefore their life time depend on the number of charge/decharge cycles. And even without using them there is a deterioration of capacity. Changes in temperature like high or low temperatures, mechanical stress (like dropping down) or other environmental influences may reduce the capacity of the batteries. So use batteries within the limits of the specification only and take them out of the device, if it is not used for a longer period of time or run from wall outlet. Prior to take batteries out of the unit, you have to switch off the device and disconnect it from the charging adapter. Check charging adapters for their model number prior using it for charging the device.

Please charge the unit when any of the following cases occur: The battery indicator informs low battery. The player turns off automatically, and turns off again after rebooting. The keys become inactive. Can't turn on the player. Please disconnect the player from PC properly to avoid data loss. The transfer rate displayed on the PC may be different depending on the operating system. Exact transfer rate should be subject to the player's indication.

Connect to a PC and download audio files
To connect the player with the PC for transferring files: 1. Plug the larger end of the USB cable to the USB port of the PC, and plug the smaller end to the USB port of the player. 2. When the icon appears at the right bottom of the PC screen, double click My Computer on the desktop, you see a removable disk which indicates the player. Just use the removable disk as a regular local disk, copying files from or to it.
Removing the player from the PC safely
1. Left click the icon at the right hand corner of the taskbar. 2. Click the pop-up mini-window with message of Safely Remove
the USB Mass Storage Device Drive (X:).

Charging the battery
The device has a rechargeable built-in lithium-ion battery. It is charged via USB connection. You are required to charge it when you use it for the first time. To charge the battery, connect the larger end of the USB cable to the USB interface of PC, and connect the other smaller end of the USB cable to the USB interface of this player. The player enters Udisk mode automatically. Exit the U-disk mode (remove the player safely from the PC, but let it still connected), the player enters charging mode then. Note: For safety, the charging time should not exceed 8 hours. And since the longevity of the battery bases on the charging times, please charge the battery after it is exhausted, and please charge it full once. To turn on the player while charging: When the player is charging and shows charge (after you removed it safely from PC, but it is still connected), pressing the key can be turn on the player and you can use it as usual. But it cant be turn off by press and hold the key. Note: For maximum performance, lithium-ion batteries need to be used often. If you dont use the device often, be sure to recharge the battery at least once per month.

Disabling the Controls
You may want to disable the controls to avoid turning on the player or activating the controls accidentally when it is in your pocket or bag. If you press and hold down the M and buttons simultaneously, you will lock all buttons. If a button is pressed, a locking symbol is shown on the display. To unlock the buttons, press and hold down the M and buttons simultaneously again.
If the behavior of the player seems not to respond normally (usually very seldom), it can be reset with a small cylindrical pin. In this case, the player should not be connected to a PC or charging equipment.

To browse all files stored in the player: 1. In the music, video, photo and text mode, shortly press the button to enter folder navigation mode (browser mode). The Browser shows the current playing/displaying file. 2. Press the or button to select a folder or a file, and press the button to confirm selection.
Press and hold the M button to display the main menu. Use the or button to select Music menu, and press the button to confirm selection. Take a look to the different options available for you to easily select your music: Music Play All Music Shows the music player screen. With this option you will see sorted alphabetically by file name, all the songs you have stored in the player. Show listings of your favorite music sorted by artist, album or genre respectively. Note: In order for the music files to be displayed in these listings, their artist, album and genre information must be stored into the file (information known as ID3-Tag). You can find freeware utilities to create or modify ID3-Tags like MP3Tag or ID3 Renamer. With this option you can explore the file tree in the memory of the player just as it would be displayed in your computer. Listen to the clips you have recorded using the microphone with this option. Choose the clip you want to listen to and press button.
Artist Album Genre

With this option you can listen to your favorite music that you already marked as favorite. To add a song to your Favorite list, simply press the button while on top of a file. Make a selection using M button. Inside the Favorite folder if you press a new menu will pop up allowing you to erase one or all the favorite marked songs. Make a selection using M button. Note: Erasing an element from Favorite you only eliminate what marks it as favorite, the file will stay in memory. Displays a list containing all titles which you have selected before in the Mufin software. Use this option whenever you store or delete songs so the artist, album and genre listings are recreated accurately. Note: When the player is unplugged from the PC via the safe USB device removal, the player will run an update automatically.

For other formats, you need to use the converting tool included on the driver CD to convert them. For detail information about the converter, see AVI Converter Quick User Guide on the CD.
Important: Earphone cable serves as an extended antenna, so please keep it plugged in. On the main menu, select Radio and press the button to turn on the FM radio.

Convert and Play Video Files
Important: This player is only able to play AVI videos that have been converted with the provided converting tool. The converting tool can support AVI, MPG, MPEG, RM, RMVB, WMV, DAT files, etc. Your player supports XviD-encoded AVI files with the following specifications: 160 x 128 resolution.
Minimum System Requirements
OS Support: Microsoft 2000/XP/Vista (32-bit only) CPU: Pentium class 3 equivalent or better Memory (RAM): > 64MB Free HD Space: 10MB Video: 24-bit color adapter WMP: Windows Media Player 9 or better Before you download videos to the device, make sure they are AVI files and can be played by the device. If not, convert them using the included converting tool on the driver CD. The following steps show how to convert.
Install the AVI Converter
1. Insert the provided installation disk into the CD-ROM drive, select and run AVIConverter Setup.exe program. 2. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation process. Important: We like to draw your attention to the fact, that the resolution which is displayed in the screen shots is not necessarily the same as the one of your device. Important: We like you to take into consideration that upgrading firmware always can be risky. So the upgrade or recovery function should be used only, if there is noticeable malfunction. There are two ways to upgrade the firmware.
Firmware Upgrade with Setup
1. Select Setup/System/Upgrade in the main menu, and then
start to upgrade as per the prompt.
or to select Yes or No, and then press the M button. Connect the player with the PC via USB, the system enters the firmware upgrading status.
Firmware Upgrade with Firmware Upgrade Tools
Use the Firmware Upgrade tool in the enclosed CD to upgrade the firmware.
1. Turn off the player, press and hold the M button, do not release it,
and connect the player with the PC via USB cable. Important: The M button has to be pressed all the time while the upgrading process is performed!
2. After the player is connected to the PC, the PC prompts Rock
USB device. Install the driver as per the requirement. If the driver has been installed, you can jump over this step directly.

3. Please follow the instructions on the screen, which were given by
the hardware assistant for installation of the recovery driver.
4. Please start the program RKnanoTool from the provided CD
after the installation of the driver has been finished.

5. Click on Open and select the respective firmware file.
6. Pressing the button Upgrade starts the upgrading/recovering.
Please use the option Full Speed if the update has been failed.

7. After the process has been finished you can close the program
with Exit. Now the M button at the player can be released and the player can be disconnected with Safely Remove Hardware.

Problem The LCD displays nothing when the device is started. The player has no response when the buttons are touched. No sound when playing an audio file. The player cannot be connected to the PC. The displayed time is changing constantly. The PC has error when you plug and unplug the player. Total memory displayed on the player is not in accordance with the marked amount. Possible Cause Battery is too low. Solution Charge the battery. Re-initialize player (press reset hole with metal pin). Adjust the volume. Delete or skip the file. Update or replace the PCs motherboard. Try to use fixed bit rate to compress the MP3 file. Do not disconnect the player from the PC when transferring files.
Player "hangs". The volume is too low. Bad audio file. The USB interface is not supported by PCs motherboard. The bit rate of the MP3 file is changing during playback. The player is disconnected from the PC abruptly while transferring files.
Part of memory is used to store programs and display characters.
Incorrect language setting. Onscreen text looks weird.
Set in Setup/Language correct language. Re-initialize player (press reset hole with metal pin).

Solution Make sure the video is in AVI format. If not, use the provided converting tool to convert it. Skip it or reload another file Try to use an image editor to convert it. Skip it or reload another file. Connect the earphone. The earphone cord functions as an antenna. Turn off the power of the electric devices. If it is effective, move and use the player away from those electric devices.
