I liked the first one so much, I bought a second. I use it primarilly with Skype for video conferencing at high resolution. I have fast internet.

I would buy another one of these cams it is great in low light situations. I had looked at several different web cams, but, after reading many reviews, I chose the Pro 9000. Everything I hoped it would be.

This is a great product and we have used it quite a bit. We have had a few problems with getting connected with someone using the same camera though. Clear viewing, easy connect, choose when or how to be viewed - and it allows a pretty good sound. I bought this logitech product at dell.com to use with the new dell studio xps 7100 desktop.

dmcfreedom 9:10am on Sunday, July 18th, 2010
This is hands down the best webcam for Skype. We use it to communicate with family in Europe, with one of these on each end. Got this to web chat with my daughter. The difference in quality between the built-in web-cam on her laptop and this is amazing.

"This is the second one I have purchased. The first was not compatable with good old VIsta. OMG This one set up in less that 15 minutes. "I love the different settings on the software.

The webcam is nice to have with laptop. It is not very good with deskstop. the performance is diminished when i started using on deskstop. Great for road warrior to keep in contact with family while traveling. Great pic and compact. Easy to hear volume and microphone.
subwaysb 10:11am on Friday, April 16th, 2010
The camera works great, but what is even better is the software that comes with it. The avatars and other effects are a lot of fun to use. We use this camera with videoconferencing software designed to communicate with big room-based videoconferencing systems.
mojtech 9:18pm on Friday, April 2nd, 2010
This is a must for anyone who wants a video chat- may it be Skype or any other set up. build quality, compatibility, design, easy to install. Without a doubt, this is well worth the cost after being very satisfied with the previous, smaller version for laptops. Better motion, sound.
dontrudell 5:24pm on Sunday, March 21st, 2010
No Complaints The webcam seems to be working great. I had fast delivery and it arrived just as advertised. I would buy from this seller again. Great camera with very good quality A very good camera and overall very reasonably priced considering the quality. Did not work w/ my computer, but great return experience I order the wrong camera for my MAC, but the return process was seamless and quick. Love it..... Recieved in an appropriate amount of time, easy to set up & used it the same day we got it.

In Memoriam We would like to thank all our Friends and neighbors from the Highlands that turned out to help us celebrate the life of Joyce White, both at the funeral home and at the clubhouse later. The outpouring of love, caring and sharing was astonishing. The number of cards, donations and food that was received was humbling and greatly appreciated. Ive said it before and Ill say it again. We all must have done many good things in our lives for God to have directed us to this place with all its wonderful people. Joyce was so happy here. She loved everyone she met here and they all loved her back. There is nothing more we can say except thank you for being her friends and making her last couple of years here a lot nicer for her. We love you all, Kenny White (husband), Mickey White (proud father-in-law) Nancy Meech (sister) and Chick Meech (proud brother-in-law)

EMERGENCY 911

By Francine Larson
Comparing Todays World With The Good Old Days
I know now that I have officially reached old age, as I seem to be constantly comparing today with the good old days or as they now say, back in the day. As a result of clicking on Facebook, I now know (as do many other people) that my grandson has broken both arms. In response to my leaving voice mail for my daughter, Cherise, I am now waiting for a tweet, text or an e-mail to hear what happened. Perhaps she will skype me, so that I can see both arms in a cast and Zachs smiling face and my daughters bewildered expression. For sure, the world boasts of all kinds of communication devices so that we could stay in touch. The cell phone was only the beginning. There are I-Pods and all kinds of phones that do amazing things. We snap pictures and instantly they are out there for all to see. Technology has also allowed us to make babies in a petri dish, give birth to designer twins and even give birth at an older age. In 2009, Maria del Carmen Bousada, 66, gave birth to twins after receiving in-vitro fertilization in a Los Angeles clinic. (She had told the clinic she was 55. She died when the twins were 2 years old.) Even though technology allows us to have more choices and even a longer life (through organ transplants and medications), my mind somehow drifts to what seemed to be a "safer time" of Kool-Aid that was flavored with pineapple juice and walking everywhere, even in the dark. I grew up in Palm Harbor, Florida. In those days, it was contained to just a few unpaved streets and everyone knew everyone. A walk to the post office (to collect mail) was a social event. Of course, even if our mail did not have a box number on the envelope, it would be OK because Mr. Troutman, the postmaster (and also the boy scout leader) knew our box number. We didnt lock our doors at night. As a matter of fact, we never locked our doors. Favorite memories are when we took a picnic supper to the beach and swam even as it grew dark. My two sisters and I walked everywhere and although my parents did not know exactly where we were every minute, they knew we were safe. Well, anyway, you get the picture. Today, I just hope my grandchildren can get their diploma and not get killed. Teens carrying guns and knives to school, bullying and cyber bullying make it seem more like going to war than school. I think technology is wonderful, but I hope my grandchildren will take time out from their cell phones and time on the Internet to appreciate a sunset and maybe play a board game. Even as I ponder the good old days, I am thankful my daughter will be getting in touch with me this morning via one of our modern options and also, I am typing this on my little netbook, that I can skype with, Billy Vaughn said, It's never safe to be nostalgic about something until you're absolutely certain there's no chance of its coming back. In every age the good old days were a myth. No one ever thought they were good at the time, for every age has consisted of crises that seemed intolerable to the people who lived through them. ~Brooks Atkinson

Highlands Choral

We were members of a choral group in our last community and would like to try to organize a singing group here in the Highlands. Beginning in the fall (some time after November 1st) the group would meet weekly for practice and work towards a spring concert. If there is sufficient interest, an organizational meeting will be held on April 14th at 10AM in the clubhouse. We do have some interest in leading the group. Another community has offered to let us use their sheet music. They have over 50 choristers so there should be no cost for this first year. If you are interested in joining a Highlands choral group, please sign up on the list on the clubhouse bulletin board. There is space provided on the sign-up sheet for you to indicate what part you sing and/or if you play a musical instrument. It will be helpful to know what part you sing as the music available is for four parts soprano, alto, tenor and bass. If you do not know your vocal range, just put down a ? mark. For those who play a musical instrument, wed like to use them in our concert. All parties are welcome. No try outs required. Sandra & David Neil

The Day I Went to Sams Club And Totally Shocked a Young Man
No, I didnt strip (not that anyone would actually look). No, I wasnt cursing or going berserk because I had just spent $113.00, although I just came in the store to buy a couple of things. It wasnt like that at all. This is how it went down. It was just an ordinary day, although a beautiful 65 degrees. Jim and I decided to go to Sams for a couple of our favorite items. Jim went to get a new Sams Card while I checked out. I put my groceries on the counter. Something made me look behind me and I noticed a young man holding one item. I dont even remember what the item was. It wasnt that I was trying to be a hero or Miss Nicey-Nice. It just seemed natural to me when I heard myself say, Is that all you have just one item. Go ahead of me. The young man looked befuddled and as if he was going into shock as he replied, Are you sure? Yes, of course I am sure. Its no big deal. Im not in a hurry. The young man crept ahead of me and looked around as if he was doing something wrong. I really appreciate this. I work in the optical department. If you ever, ever need glasses, I will fit you with the best pair you have ever had! I nodded my head and smiled. Thank you and have a nice day. You, too. You have really made my day a whole lot better. Wow, I thought to myself. Is this what the world has come to? Are people shocked so much at such a little kindness? In my mind, it wasnt big enough to qualify as a kindness, but the whole incident made me wonder if civility isnt a thing of the past. In fact, I would qualify this small act as not specifically kindness, but being polite. A few months ago I was waiting in the lab to get a blood test. I am just naturally a people-watcher. Two young men came in and from what little I could hear, they were discussing the cost of a lab test with the receptionist. I think they probably needed some test in order to get employment somewhere. After a few minutes of discussion, the two young men were ushered into the next room. About that time, I saw an older gentleman approach the desk. When you are eavesdropping, as I was you cant hear each word just kind of every other word, but I am pretty sure he told the receptionist that whatever the cost (of the two young mens blood test), he would pay. To me, that is a real act of kindness and going beyond being polite. Kahil Gibran said, Tenderness and kindness are not signs of weakness and despair but manifestations of strength

11 Meet Your Highlands Family NED, DIANE, BOOBOO, BING AND BABY SPONSLER
Ned and Diane Sponsler are another of our snow bird residents. Ned and Diane were checking out options of where to reside for the winter months. One day they visited the Palm Harbor factory in Plant City and met with the representative from The Highlands. She invited them to stop and check out the community. Ned really didn't want to, but being the good husband that he is, he brought Diane to check out the Highlands and they fell in love. Shortly thereafter, they purchased their home on Country Club Lane. They share their home with their three Yorkies, BooBoo, Bing and Baby. Ned and Diane are from Ashland, Ohio and have been married for thirty five years. Ned owned a grocery/meat store for twenty years. He sold the business and in 1985 he bought food trailers. For the next twenty years he was a food vendor at various fairs. Diane was a production engineer for a hydromatic pump company. They have five children and fifteen grandchildren. Soon they will have nine great grandchildren. Diane always wanted a large family and it looks like she got her wish. Ned and Diane enjoy going back to Ohio for the summer for weddings, graduations and new babies. Ned and Diane have traveled to Europe twice and Ned would like to go again. Diane likes playing mah jongg, reading and spending time with her grandchildren and three pets. Ned is often seen in the Highland's Clubhouse kitchen. He enjoys working with Gene Henry to purchase and cook food for the Highlands community meals. Diane and Ned are very happy about their choice of the Highlands for their retirement years. They feel everyone is so friendly and helpful. Barb Geiling

When there is no pickup, customers may put out double the amount of trash on the next scheduled pickup day. Recycling (curbside Blue Bag program): Metal cans, #1 and #2 plastic and glass containers may be left in blue plastic bags at the curb on the first and third Fridays each month. Newspapers: A recycling bin stands outside our clubhouse behind the kitchen. Newspapers only, please. Yard refuse: Call Larry or Judy if you wish to have HTA staff pick up lawn refuse youve created during a yard clean-up. If youve had professionals clean-up your yard, they should remove the refuse as part of their service.
Submitting Items for Publication: As always, thanks are extended to those who contributed information for this months issue. All articles and updates should be sent to newsletter@floridahighlands.com or deposited in the box on the clubhouse bulletin board no later than the last day of the month preceding publication. Every effort is made to include all submissions, but occasionally omissions will occur. Your understanding is appreciated.
