A few important points

Nutrition experts all agree on the importance of eating fruits and vegetables as often as possible. During the rst few months of their lives, babys diet consists solely of milk. From the age of 5 or 6 months, it is possible to begin to diversify their intake, adding certain solids alongside the milk, in accordance with the advice from your doctor. Vegetables and then fruits can be offered to them, separately so that they can enjoy their avour better: a taste of everything. After that, their diet can begin to include small amounts of meat and sh. This learning process is important in their future dietary habits. Where possible, choose unpackaged fruits and vegetables. The shorter their period of conservation, the better they maintain their vitamins and their avour.
Here is a table presenting the various seasons fruits and vegetables.
Jan. Artichoke Aubergine Carrot Cauliower Courgette Spinach Green beans Peas Leek Potato Tomato Apricot Strawberries Pear Apple Feb. March April May June July Aug. Sept. Oct. Nov. Dec.
However, to extend the range, you can also use frozen vegetables.
Up until the age of 2, children mainly eat pures of fruit, vegetables and nely chopped meat or sh. The most important thing is to respect the babys own rhythm, giving them time to gradually adapt to the new foods you provide. By diversifying a babys diet too quickly or too soon, you run the risk of creating allergies.

Special note for the UK: The Department of Health do not recommend starting babies on solid foods until 6 months to reduce the risk of baby developing adverse reactions to foods and allergies. If you feel your baby needs to start solids before six months, do discuss it with your health visitor rst. This is particularly important if your baby was born prematurely. The Department of Health states that solid foods should not be introduced before the end of your babys fourth month (20 weeks). Also fruit juice should not be given before 6 months as they can cause tooth decay and may also reduce a babies appetite for milk. Fruit juice should always be diluted as advised by your health visitor.

Vorwort
