What is dust/fume? The in this context applied term of dust/fume describes the amount of dispersed, firm particles in the air, which are produced among other things during mechanical processes such as welding. In general you have to distinguish between grit and fines. Fines can be further classified into categories E-dust (dust which can be inhaled), A-dust (dust alveolar) and Udust (ultra fine dust). In general dust/fume below a particle size of 10 m is being characterized as fines. Also welding fumes, oldering s fumes and oil mist are part of the category fines. Since their particle size is smaller than 1 m they belong to the fraction of A-dust particles and require particular hygienic attention. How is the dust/fume produced? In welding engineering dust and therewith hazardous substances are produced by application of ase materials b ller materials fi mpurities i mbient air a during processes such as vaporation e ondensation c xidization o ecomposition d yrolysis p ombustion c Why is dust/fume dangerous? Generally speaking every kind of dust/ fume can lead to respiratory diseases (Bronchitis, obstructive bronchitis) resulting from the inhaling of dust in a high concentration and during a longer period. Dust/fume is in articular p dangerous if it contains hazardous substances. Depending on the result of the risk evaluation, the German Ordinance on Hazardous Substances prescribes to realize safeguards according to a protection class concept: Protection class 1 In case of a negligible risk, the basic measures according to 8 of the German Ordinance on Hazardous Substances (protection class 1) must be realized. They include for example: Cleanliness of the workplace o food at the workplace N se of protective clothing U imiting the quantity of hazardous L substances to the quantity required for the activity The protection class 1 has to be fulfilled during welding at any time (cf.TRGS500). Protection class 2 If the basic measures of the protection class 1 are not enough for the handling of hazardous substances, additional measures have to be realized according to 9 of the German Ordinance on Hazardous Substances: Substitution R eplacing hazardous substances for substances, preparations and products which are less harmful regarding health and safety C hoosing a different process, e.g. gas tungsten-arc welding instead of MIG-welding or active-gas metalarc welding Evaluation of the charge (exposition) Reduction of the charge in using a local capturing device

only few amounts of hazardous substances are being produced through the extrusion or melting ofthe base material

1. Mobile suction and filtering systems
TEKA mobile suction and filter units enable you to flexibly adapt to changing conditions. For situations that require dust and smoke extraction, we offer adequate solutions for metal processing (welding, laser), electronic industry (soldering), dental and medical technology and also for the printing industry (plotting). The TEKA HANDYCART, for instance, is a compact, space-saving unit used for welding of small components. In a special version this filter unit can be used for torch extraction. On the other hand, we offer high end mobile cartridge filter units like our STRONGMASTER and CARTMASTER. These units allow long lasting extractions of welding processes with non-alloyed metals and precious metals, e specially along with strong smoke emissions. Not only smoke and dust can be extracted by our mobile units, also other health affecting emissions such as oil mist can be extracted by suction units with e.g. the TEKA OILCUBE.

Appropriate to: Cleaning of the polluted air in the hall.
Description Often a selective suction alone is not enough to undercut the legally prescribed limit values for working places and thus to exclude danger for humans. Therefore it is necessary to additionally ventilate the space. The TEKA room exhausting systems a pply the so called PUSH-PULL-System. On one side of the hall, the pollutants are taken in by sufficiently dimensioned ventilation gratings and filtered afterwards. On the other side of the hall the cleaned air is returned into the space either via ventilation gratings or via jets. The advantages of the TEKA room exhausting system are the optimal s uction performance of the filter unit, the user-friendliness and the low maintenance. The air can either be extracted inside or outside. A mixed operation is also possible. The return of the air in the working space considerably minimizes the heating costs. However, the requirements of the new hazardous substances ordinance must be respected.

Appropriate to: Cleaning of polluted hall air.
Description A selective suction alone often is not enough to undercut the legally prescribed limit values for working places and thus to exclude danger for humans. Therefore it is necessary to additionally ventilate the space. The pollutants are extracted at a height of 2 m via gratings and filtered afterwards. At the level of the ceiling, the cleaned air is returned to the space via jets. The advantages of the AIRTECH-room exhausting system are the optimal s uction performance of the filter unit (high lifetime of the cartridges, high suction performance), the user-friendliness and the low maintenance. As ducting is not necessary the location of the unit can flexibly be chosen. If the air is returned into the working space, the heating costs can be minimized considerably. However, the requirements of the new german hazardous substances ordinance must be respected. The filter units are fitted with filter cartridges of the filter category BGIA M (separation efficiency 99%) and have a specially developed dedusting system which consists of the combination of PULSE-CONTROL steering with the POWER-SPRAY-System. This combination guarantees a very good dedusting performance of the filter cartridges for an optimal suction performance during operation.
