TOSHIBA MAGNIA Z310 Read-Me-First Addendum
Please read the following before you begin to use your server. The following limitations, updates, and other notices may affect the performance of your server. For the latest information www.toshiba-tro.de and updates, please visit:
When using Windows NT Server
Before updating display driver manually, be sure to install Windows NT Service Pack 6 and VIA 4in1 driver (Install Service Pack 6 before VIA 4in1 driver). After updating display driver manually, you must restart the system before changing the video driver, making any changes to the video settings, or performing any diagnostic test. Due to the limitations of Windows NT, if the memory capacity exceeds 1.7 GB, Windows NT cannot be installed, and must be installed as follows: 1. Install Windows NT with less than or equal to 1.7 GB of memory and install the latest Service Pack. 2. Add the memory module. For adding the memory module, refer to your MAGNIA Users Guide (on your Documentation CD). The system has two onboard network adapters, LAN1 (Ether1) and LAN2 (Ether2). On Windows NT Server, LAN2 (Ether2) is

1/9 S00063.1-EN Rev.D

recognized as Network adapter[1] and LAN1 (Ether1) as Network adapter[2].
When using Windows 2000 Server
During installation of Windows 2000 Service Pack 2, the pop up window appears and asks whether re- place the file adp u160m.sys. Click No. The MegaRAID Configuration Console (MCC) must be installed manually since the Server Setup Tool cannot install it.
Using the MegaRAID Configuration Console (MCC)
When using MegaRAID Configuration Console (MCC), please refer to the MegaRAID Configuration Console Users Guide (on your Documentation CD). When you replace a HDD during operation, replace the only faulty HDD. Do not remove the other HDD that is in operation. At the HDD replacement, the response of OS may slow down in a short time. When you use the IDE-RAID and the RAID controller F/E2H (SCSI-RAID controller) in combination, and if you install MCC manually, do not install the MegaRAID Service Monitor and SNMP Agent-MegaRAID SCSI even though it appeared in the component. Use the Power Console Plus for the RAID controller F/E2H. When you use the IDE-RAID and the RAID controller F/E2H (SCSI-RAID controller) in combination, you can see the SCSI-RAID controller in the MCC. Do not select it.

S00063.1-EN Rev.D

Using the Power Console Plus
When you use both Power Console Plus (PCP) and MegaRAID Configuration Console (MCC), you need to install MCC first and PCP next. If you install PCP first, you cant see SCSI RAID information using HarnessEye/web.

OS boot order

Boot order will be changed to system default by CMOS clear. Configure boot order again after CMOS is cleared. The default boot order is as follows: Removable devices > MegaRAID IDE > SCSI Riser Card > SCSI RAID Controller > CD-ROM Drive
When forced power off or power off by Automatic shut-down
When you forced power off (pressing Power/Sleep button for 4 seconds) or power off by automatic shutdown and disconnect the AC power cord in following conditions: In the BIOS Setup utility AC ON State: ON or Last State The server will be automatically turned on when AC power cord is reconnected. To avoid automatically turned on, set to AC ON State to OFF.
When using UPS in your system
If your system has UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) and operate automatically, please set ON a setup of AC ON State in BIOS Setup Utility. Since the default setting is Last State, if you do not change this setting, a power supply is not turned on. For adding the BIOS Setup Utility, refer to your Magnia Users Guide (on your Documentation CD).

3/9 S00063.1-EN Rev.D

When using Rack Type
When using Rack Type, LAN cable may be difficult to remove because of the space around the connector is small. Remove other cables around LAN1(Ether1) connector before removing LAN cable.

Memory dump

When using Windows 2000 Server, choose Kernel Memory Dump or Complete Memory Dump in memory dump configuration (Control Panel System Advanced Startup and Recovery Write Debugging information). Furthermore, if your system has memory exceeds 2GB, choose Kernel Memory Dump. System may not reboot automatically after memory dump in case of blue screen. If this case happened, reboot manually by pressing Reset button.

Installing Windows NT/2000 to IDE and SCSI HDD system
In case of install OS to the system that has multiple HDD controllers, proceeds one of the following procedures. (1) Install OS to IDE HDD 1) Remove RAID controller card and install OS. (Recommended) 2) Remove other HDD and install OS. In this case, following message may appear on booting. Press <Ctrl><M> to run Configuration Utility or any other Key to continue If this message appears, press <Ctrl> + <M> keys to invoke MegaRAID Configuration Utility and perform Configure Clear Configuration.

4/9 S00063.1-EN Rev.D

3) Install driver for RAID controller E2H after OS-boot and reboot again. (2) Install OS to SCSI HDD 1 ) Remove IDE HDD and install OS. 2 ) After installation, boot order will be changed when reconnect IDE HDD and OS wont start. Change boot order to make SCSI be prior to IDE. To change boot order, refer to OS boot order in this document. 3 ) Then IDE HDDs are added to your system that has OS installation on SCSI HDD already, the drive letters may be changed. Change the drive letter as before using Disk Administrator.
When using SCSI Card in your system
When a SCSI card is connected to the PCI slot, it may be unable to boot depending on HW composition (IDE-HDD and SCSI riser card). Please check the device connected and set up according to the following items. The setting item, which mounted the SCSI card Connection of a device Setting items IDE-HDD SCSI Item 1 Item 2 Riser Card Mount Not mount Need Mount Not mount Need Need Not mount Mount Need Need Not mount Mount Need
