As VoIP (Voice over IP) technology becomes mainstream in corporate networks, its implementation in remote offices is proving to be beneficial in reducing telephony costs, improving communications with the central office and increasing worker productivity. With the proper implementation of an IP (Internet Protocol) PBX (Private Branch eXchange) or hosted IP telephony services, a remote office worker can have all of the productivity features of being an extension of the corporate PBX, but be physically anywhere the network reaches. With all that connectivity happening courtesy of the IP network, it is important that planners also take into consideration what happens at the remote office when the IP network fails. Having a system that lets the remote office still function is called survivability, and is possibly the most important part of planning a company's upgrading to IP telephony in the field.
establishing IP telephony at remote offices. It operates using the de facto SIP IP telephony standard, addresses both IP PBX and hosted IP telephony service needs, and provides secure 911 emergency services during network failures.
Morgan Stanley, Wachovia Securities and Deutsche Bank Securities are joint lead managers and bookrunners. In addition, Morgan Stanley is serving as deal coordinator for the offering. "The Internet and other IP networks are, and will continue to be, the transport media of choice for evolving business communications applications," states Chip Harleman, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Multi-Tech Systems, Inc. "With SIP being the current de facto standard protocol for business IP communications, having your communications survivability built around SIP and IP is a sound approach. That is why our new MultiVOIP SS survivable SIP server and gateway is such a good choice. It is a leading edge technology that marries the Internet's reach with the functionality and resources of IP PBX and hosted IP telephony services." The MultiVOIP SS survivable SIP server and gateway provides the basic features of a centralized IP telephony system to remote locations during IP network (i.e., WAN) failures. It also provides gateway functionality by bridging the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) to the IP network by connecting one or more analog trunks. provider revenues resulting from businesses moving to VoIP will amount to $36bn per annum by 2010 Losses incurred by traditional telecoms providers will be exacerbated by the rise of Internet Telephony Service Providers and VoIP Peering Houses Author Barry Butler states: VoIP has the potential to transform business communications, in terms of call costs, cost of operations and integration with business processes. However, as with other IP based platforms, VoIP is a disruptive technology which will reshape the business communications service provider community. The report provides detailed five year forecasts for enterprise VoIP, hosted VoIP services, peer-to-peer VoIP, and business broadband connected VoIP across five principal regions of the world, plus the Asian powerhouses of China, India, Japan, Korea and Taiwan. Research for this report included interviews with many leading VoIP organisations, including: Service
providers Skype, Tiscali, Masergy, Viatel, Thus, Telstra Europe, Telewest; Peering providers XConnect; Security vendors Fortinet, Symantec and Sonic Wall.
The Juniper report reveals that the tipping point for the adoption of VoIP by businesses will shortly be reached, but also illustrates the barriers to adoption resulting from difficulties in network readiness and the regulation of VoIP in some countries. Highlights from the report include: The total business VoIP services market will reach $18bn per annum by 2010 Small business broadband connections will reach 40 million lines by 2010 Hosted VoIP business revenues will climb to $7.6bn by 2010 The lost telecoms service

What a difference USB connectivity has provided to the computer industry. Prior to this technology meant adding additional equipment inside the computer and your possibilities were somewhat limited. With the capacity to instantaneously add devices like cameras, storage, and network equipment, the possibilities are unlimited. One of these devices is the Crucial Gizmo! High-Speed 2GB (UFD) USB Flash Drive that wins our Editor's Choice Award for functionality and value. This USB Flash Drive takes no special skills to use as you simply plug it into and available powered USB port from a computer or USB hub. Within seconds the device is seen on the computer and is presented as new drive on the system. As with any other drive on the computer it can be accessed using file manager. Operating system requirements for the Crucial Gizmo! include Windows Millennium Edition or higher as well as Macintosh OS 8.6 and forward. The Crucial Gizmo! High-Speed 2GB USB Flash Drive ships with a Lanyard. This is a very attractive neck strap that makes it easy transport the device around your neck however it's easy to forget that it is there. This Crucial product includes a multi-lingual user's manual although the device is quite easy to operate without it. To test the performance of the Crucial Gizmo! 2GB UFD we used a 7200-RPM hard drive to transfer files to the device. We used a plentiful supply of small files, which usually takes longer to transfer in comparison to larger files, and we were able to maintain an average transfer rate of 5MB per second. We also tried this device with a DVD burner using it as a file source and we found the speed of this USB flash drive was fast enough and avoided any buffer errors. When we used larger files with the transfer, the rate was less than five-percent faster. Overall, we are impressed with the performance that this USB memory device offers.

W e ' v e noticed how the price of memory continued to decrease in the last year and so has the price of USB memory devices. What would have been the price of a 1GB device is now competitively priced as a 2GB USB flash drive. Crucial does sell this product on their online store however we found better pricing from internet retailers. With a cost of $131, the Gizmo! High-Speed 2GB USB Flash Drive is quite affordable. 24-port PoE-capable Ethernet switch
Del l Pow er Connect 3424P Swi tch
Dell has been in the business of selling computer systems for many years and in the last several has made a definite dent in the business market as well. As PoE (Power over Ethernet) devices are being marketed by companies such as Toshiba, Avaya, Cyclades, Siemens and many others, the need for a PoE switch becomes more demanding. The Dell PowerConnect 3424P is an affordable PoE switch and it receives our Editor's Choice Award for functionality and value. There are several different ways to connect your network to this switch that work concurrently with each other. Two RJ-45 10/100/100Base-T Ethernet ports are available in addition to two SFP (small form-factor pluggable) fiber ports. All together they provide the possibility of a 4-gigabyte uplink capacity. In our opinion, this is one of the better switches that can be used when going from one location to another as an entry point switch.

Each of the different models of the GTCO CalComp MeetingBoard have a 25-foot RS-232 serial cable for connection with a PC in addition to a 15foot USB 2.0 cable as well. One certain model of this product has a Bluetooth interface that can provide wireless connectivity with up to seven MeetingPad 400 devices that can also participate in the presentation. Pricing for the MeetingBoard will depend on the model you choose and whether the device uses the Bluetooth wireless interface. We found pricing on the internet that ranged between $1,600 and $2,400 from various internet resellers. More information on the MeetingBoard and the MeetingPad 400 can be found on the company's web site at www.gtcocalcomp.com.
Personal drawing tablet with excellent resolution
GTC O CalCom p M eet ingPad 400
We've all encounter a presentation or classroom instruction that could have been more interesting rather than mundane and many times this was due to the lack of participation in the event. As a participant in a presentation we are usually given the opportunity to share with facilitator our thoughts and views on the subject matter at hand but rarely given the opportunity to actually place our drawing or notation on the physical whiteboard itself. GTCO Calcomp's MeetingPad 400 provides that opportunity when using the comp a n y ' s MeetingPad product. With the ability to merge the MeetingPad 400's drawing into the presentation wirelessly, we give it our Editor's Choice Award for value and connectivity. Housed in an off-blue color casing and with an overall size of 11.5 by 10.5-inches the MeetingPad 400's active drawing area is six-by-eight inches and is lightweight at just under two pounds. The device is quite sturdy and contains a rechargeable battery that should last around forty-hours of sporadic use before the unit needs to be recharged. The GTCO Calcomp MeetingPad 400 sports a resolution of 1,000 lines per inch and is capable of providing one of the most defined reproductions that we've seen in this type of product. GTCO Calcomp provides the ability for the MeetingPad 400 to implement its data with the company's MeetingBoard product to add to the current presentation underway. It does require the purchase of the Bluetooth wireless hub for the device and a total of seven different MeetingPads can be seamlessly integrated in the presentation. Because it is using Bluetooth technology the device has a range of approximately 300-feet which means they could be placed strategically in several different areas in the presentation room. While the GTCO Calcomp MeetingPad 400 can be used separately from the MeetingBoard if desired as a standalone product and it does have the capacity to print its drawing to a computer system we really think that its premiere use really shines with the MeetingBoard solution where it provides a technology that is u n s u r pa s s e d and not available in any other presentation product on the market. There are drivers and software that are provided with the product that work in both Windows 98SE+ and Macintosh OS X computer systems. The cost of the GTCO Calcomp MeetingPad 400 is around $545 when purchased on the internet and if you choose to have the Bluetooth Hub included with the device, you'll need to place an addition $40 on the cost of the device. More information about the MeetingPad 400 and the MeetingBoard can be found on the company's web site at www.gtcocalcomp.com.

Dom ai nMart Introduces B/ T Rati o t o Determ ine Dom ai n Names Best Use
DomainMart, a leading provider of quantitative and analytical domainname services, introduced today the brand-to-traffic (B/T) ratio, a valuable analytical tool to determine the best use of a domain name, judge its traffic quality, and select portfolios. The model uses the fact that the value of a commercial sites domain name is driven by two, not necessarily mutually exclusive, functionality forces: branding and traffic values. As these drivers are unobservable, to impute their respective values DomainMart uses statistical techniques to combine information on observable proxies. They also distinguish between traffic suitable for parking verses forwarding/leasing. appraisers can only provide ad hoc measures for each driver and then aggregate them into the appraised value in some mysterious proprietary, procedure, notes Tajirian. As for using the ratio in determining traffic quality, a domain name with high traffic, a low B/T, and a low PPC rate suggests that it is best suitable for forwarding/leasing, says Tajirian. Two equally valued domain names can have two different uses. Thus, for example, if you have a budget of $2000 and you are interested in parking revenue, you should seek a domain names with low B/T ratios and high PPC rates. Thus, high PPC rates is a necessary, but not a sufficient condition, notes Tajirian.

The object of the test is to prove the interoperability of the billing systems as well as various mobile IP cellular telephones and APs (Access Points) implemented by different manufacturers. TerraSip is especially interested in testing its billing system for WiFis (here more than 2000) with the cooperation of both partners to ensure in-the-field reliability and accuracy. Value added hotspots: Stefan Seiwald, Managing Director of goingsoft GmbH, is optimistic: When the project has been successfully completed, our access points in over 600 Austrian hotels will be significantly more attractive. Alexander Balsam, CTO of M3Connect GmbH and responsible for 1500 APs in Germany, is also keen to seize the opportunity: Mobile Internet Telephony is the market of the future for us. Not only our hotel installations, but also the international trade fairs which we equip with our WLANs represent an enormous growth potential. After the successful conclusion of the pilot project, TerraSip plans a rapid expansion in Germany and Austria. By the end of 2006 there will be over 100,000 WiFis available to TerraSip customers (members?) in the European German language region. This mobile VoIP service will represent very much better value than GSM. Information to the provider: TerraSip is a recent, globally aligned and world-wide operating enterprise. It offers free internet telephony per international SIP standard for TerraSip members. The membership is free. TerraSips adjustment aims at mobile internet telephony, the voice over WLAN, briefly VoWLAN.
