This document addresses issues that are not discussed in the Ulead MediaStudio Pro 7 documentation. This document may be updated as more information becomes available.
About Ulead MediaStudio Pro 7.2
Ulead MediaStudio Pro 7.2 is a complete Digital Video Suite, offering Real-time MPEG capture, Realtime preview, as well as Real-time output. The inclusion of tools for video painting, CG graphics, audio editing and DVD authoring makes this your solution for powerful content creation - for broadcast, tape, DVD or the Web. This document has been updated to include details regarding the MediaStudio Pro 7.2 update.

What's New

1. Support Ulead VideoStudio 8 project files. 2. Add new filters and effect: Pan & Zoom, Duotone and Album transition. 3. Support Recording Date/Time and display the arrangement. Production Library now supports extracting timecode from videos and audio/images from camcorders or digital cameras. Some camcorders and digital cameras may not record the media with recording date/time when using some specific settings. In this situation, the Production Library will not be able to show Recording Date/Time. 4. Support VST audio plug-in. 5. Support Auto Deinterlace. When creating a project using progressive scan and Auto
Deinterlace is selected, all video fields will be automatically deinterlaced when creating the

video file.

6. MPEG-2 2-Pass Encoding option was added. 2-Pass Encoding can be only be selected when you create a file; it is not an option for a project template.

Issues Addressed

1. Video Capture module crash problem was fixed. In the previous version, Video Capture crashes without any warning message when playing back captured MPEG files. 2. Windows Media Format VIO module was updated. 3. Customized Windows Media Format profiles can be used to create files. 4. Variable bit-rate (VBR) support for Windows Media format was added and additional Windows Media 9 encoding profiles were included. 5. Non-Latin character problem for Title Clip was fixed. 6. Pre-scan and capture work correctly even when the DV tape has duplicated timecodes. DV camcorders that have built-in hardware buffer feature are now supported by Pre-scan Problem with Video Capture crashing when the video has more than 100 scenes was fixed. The Scan DV Tape button is enabled even when there is no device connected. Problem with MediaStudio Pro not opening a project when users select video matte in Video Overlay attribute was fixed. Changed Field Order A to Lower Field First and Field Order B to Upper Field First. Problem of the video flickering at the end of a transition effect was fixed. [For Ulead HD Plug-in only] Video Capture sometimes stop when there are scene changes. ADS Instant DVD II compatibility issue was fixed. Print to Tape problem was fixed. Problem with the background color always being black in a slide show was fixed. Problem with CG Infinity crashing was fixed. In CG Infinity, the problem of the object color changing when Moving Path is applied was fixed. Occasional problems with Microsoft Windows Media 9 audio were fixed. Problem when dragging and dropping image files onto the Timeline was fixed. Problem with DV files with corrupted frames when created on a system with Hyper-Threading

enabled was fixed.

Occasional synchronizing problems in Preview window were fixed. DVD-NTSC template configures the video's frame type wrongly therefore causing video with
Lower Field first to fail to Smart Render. This problem was fixed.

Problems when creating a video with incorrect field order when a 3D transition is applied were fixed. Problem with Remove Noise audio filter not functioning well when using Instant Play was

fixed.

Audio synchronization problem when a PAL MPEG-1 video is converted to a NTSC DVD video

was fixed.

Problem with the Field Order option being grayed out in some situations was fixed. Image relink problem for Media Library was fixed. Auto-Deinterlace is now applied on the video during Create Video File, not during editing. Scan for Scenes bug was fixed. Problem with Video Capture only pre-scanning and capturing the first segment of video and
ignoring the rest of the DV tape when the DV tape has duplicated timecodes was fixed.
Some camcorders have hardware buffer to hold previously played frames. Due to this, the
camcorder may send buffered frames rather than the actual frames and right timecode to
Video Capture. Video Capture has resolved this problem.

Known issues

1. Customized template settings (both in New project and Create Video File dialog boxes) of users will be archived and moved to another folder because the default template was updated. If you want to recover customized templates, follow the procedure below: a. In <MediaStudio Pro 7 installation path>\Backup, open Data.log in Notepad. b. Check the the path that is written in Data.log. c. In the Backup folder, copy both prjtmpMPEG.dat and savetemp.dat to the path specified in Data.log. This will overwrite the new files that were installed with SP2 with the customized templates. 2. When importing a VideoStudio 8 project with SmartSound audio clips, SmartSound audio clips will be ripped. Other audio clips can be imported without problems. 3. VST audio plug-in has to be put in a specific path to make it work. It must be placed in this path: <MediaStudio Pro root>\Ulead Systems\Ulead MediaStudio Pro 7.0\aft_plug\VST

MediaStudio Pro will automatically detect the camcorder and load the project settings for device control, editing and output. Preview, set clip durations and batch capture video directly to hard disk, via IEEE 1394 Firewire. Capture HDV 1080i, 720p or DV video whichever mode your video was shot in. The MediaStudio Pro 7 HD Plug-in 2.0 losslessly converts the "Transport Stream" video coming from the camcorder to "Program Stream"' specification for effective editing. Captured video can also be used in other NLEs with suitable presets.

Video Edit

The MediaStudio Pro 7 HD Plug-in 2.0 uses the HDV Program Stream video to take advantage of Uleads SmartRender technology, to provide faster editing and output rendering on suitable systems. MediaStudio Pro 7 is a complete, professional digital video post production suite. It includes modules for Capture, Video Editing, Audio Editing, CG Graphics, and Video Painting. Communicate your vision effectively with powerful editing and titling features, real-time audio mixing tools and an extensive library of filters, motion path and transition effects. No limited features in MediaStudio Pro 7 when editing HDV Video. MediaStudio Pro is one of very few NLEs that allow you to mix formats on the timeline - be it MPEG 2, HDV or DV, you can complete your edit and then do a final encode to the output format of your choice. The addition of a full-featured DVD authoring tool makes this an all-in-one HDV to DVD solution.

Output Options

Once your video has been edited, you can save and view it on your computer, or encode it to any one of the variety of formats offered by MediaStudio Pro 7, including most standard HDV frame sizes, Windows Media, QuickTime, DV, Real or DVD-compliant MPEG-2. Two-pass MPEG encoding ensures the best output quality. Record back to HDV device (camcorder or VTR) via IEEE 1394 Firewire, or view on a High-Definition TV monitor. Encode and author HDV video to SD DVD.

Installation

Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 supports HDV devices, so it is recommended to use Windows XP SP 2 or above as the HDV video editing environment. Ulead HD Plug-in 2.0 includes the MediaStudio Pro 7 Service Pack 2, so users don't need to install the Service Pack 2 when installing the plug-in. 1. Make sure the OS can detect your HDV device successfully. If not, update your Windows XP to Service Pack 2 or above. 2. Install Ulead MediaStudio Pro 7.0. 3. Install Ulead HDV 1080i Plug-in.
