I am a college student that is heavily into graphic and web design. This is my first pen tablet and I am positive I have made the right decision! This is my first Wacom. It is much nicer than my off-market tablet, and rightfully so, but I suppose I expected more luxury out of the price.

As far as drawing digitally goes, this is by far the best thing out there. When compared to the 6x8 wacom tablet. Absolutely brilliant. I am using the display under MacOSX. Setting it up was a breeze - plug it in and install the drivers.

No More Pointing!

The combination of the Orion with its companion MRF-250 base station will enable you to place your audio/video components out of sight behind closed doors and/or in another room of your house. The Orion sends radio signals to the MRF-250 through walls and closed doors (50-100 away, indoors or outdoors). The MRF-250 converts your commands to the infrared signals that control your A/V components.
1. The Orion remote control sends radio waves in every direction, so you dont have to point the remote anymore!

Finding the MAIN Menu

The MAIN Button always takes you to the MAIN Menu which may be named for the room the Orion controls.
The PAGE button switches between two MAIN Menu pages IF you have more than ten remote controls. When the top title bar says MAIN or the name of a Room, you are on the MAIN Menu.

The Orion

2. Self-adhesive Flashers affixed to the front panels of components relay commands to components out of line-of-sight with the MRF-250.
The lower title bar displays PAGE 1 or PAGE 2 as you switch. Each of the remote controls the Orion replaces are represented by a button next to the corresponding screen label.

The MRF-250

3. The built-in Front Blaster sends commands to components in the same cabinet space as the MRF-250.

Turn On Your Entire System
Power on/off your entire system with the MAIN Menu by following these steps: 1. Touch the MAIN button to make sure that you are on the MAIN Menu. It doesnt matter which page of the MAIN Menu is displayed.
The MAIN Menu enables you to either select a new Activity or simply select a new Device to control. When you select a new activity, the remote control will issue a MACRO (a timed sequence of many commands from many different remote controls). This MACRO was custom programmed for your system by your installer. It will issue all of the commands necessary to switch the sound and picture of your system. When you select a device, the remote control becomes the remote control you select WITHOUT affecting the home theater.
2. Touch the On or Off button as desired. Wait until all components are correctly powered on or off. Turning on the system may take ten to twenty seconds.

Select a New ACTIVITY

1. Touch the MAIN button to make sure that you are on the MAIN Menu. Touch the PAGE button if you dont see the activity you want.
3. If one component does not turn on/off, simply touch the button again.
TIP The remote control will not respond to a new button push while is still issuing commands. While busy, the indicator flashes at the top of the screen next to the screen title.
2. Touch the activity button next to the desired screen label. For example if you wish to watch a DVD movie, touch the DVD button.

Page 5

Controlling the Volume
For your convenience, the VOLUME Up, VOLUME Down and the MUTE buttons will always control the surround sound system, regardless of what activity or device you are controlling. The MAIN Menu activity buttons issue MACROS that reset the sound and picture of your home theater to a new activity.
TIP The remote control is still issuing commands while the indicator flashes.

Operating any Device

If the sound or the picture still are not correct, repeat steps 1 and 2. You can see the name of the device at the top of the screen. If it is not the one you want, return to the MAIN Menu and select a new device or activity.

Select a DEVICE Only

1. Touch the MAIN button to make sure that you are on the MAIN Menu. Touch the Page button if you dont see the activity you want. 2. Press and hold the MAIN button. While holding the MAIN button down, touch the button next to the desired screen label. The remote control will now display the name of the selected device and all buttons will operate the device, however, the sound and the picture of your system have not been changed.
All of the printed label buttons on the remote operate just like the original remote control (with the exception of Volume Up, Volume Down and Mute which operate your surround sound system).

Page 7

7 The Power ON and OFF buttons now operate only the selected device (to turn the entire system on/off, return to the MAIN Menu).
8 The thumbpad easily operates on screen menus with either the Left or Right hand. When you are operating a device with any kind of on-screen menu, guide or display, the thumbpad offers you easy one-handed control with your thumb.
The ten screen labeled buttons are now labeled with any commands that do not fit one of the buttons with printed labels.
To SELECT or say OK, simply press your thumb straight down. Youll feel the click as the OK/SELECT/ENTER command is sent.

Using FAV - Favorites

The favorites menu is created uniquely for you by your custom installer. The screen labeled buttons now issue timed sequences of commands that will reset your system with one touch. Typically, the favorites menu is programmed with one touch shortcut buttons that issue all of the necessary commands to change the channel of your satellite dish or television. Thus, instead of entering a two or three digit number (which you must remember) and the enter command, you simply select the favorite button labeled HBO, CNN, TNT etc. The Favorite menu can be programmed with any favorite activity. It is not limited to channel favorites. Your custom installer may invent a feature unique to

Up to 40 screen labeled buttons are available for each device. To view the additional buttons, press the PAGE button to display additional pages. The remote control can display up to four pages of screen labeled buttons for each activity or device! As you scroll through the pages, notice that the bottom title bar displays which page you are viewing (PAGE 1, PAGE 2, etc.).

Page 9

9 your system. Discuss any non-channel favorite label with your installer, so that you understand how to use it. To use the FAVORITE Menu: 1. Press the FAV button. The top title bar will now display FAV.

Backlighting

Turn on the backlighting by pressing the LIGHT button on the right side of the the remote control. The backlighting will stay on briefly, then turn off automatically. If you wish to turn it off without waiting, simply tap the LIGHT button again.
Use the FAV button and the PAGE button to navigate through your various pages of FAVORITES. The FAV button scrolls up from Page 1 to Page 5, using the PAGE button scrolls down from Page 5 to Page 1. As you select a new page, the bottom title bar will display the page number (page 1, page 2, etc.)
* Note that your battery life is reduced by how often you use the backlighting.

Changing Contrast

Press and Hold BOTH the MAIN and the UP thumbpad button at the same time to make the screen DARKER.
To EXIT Fav and return to the last activity/device selected, press the MAIN button ONCE. To EXIT Fav and go to the MAIN Menu, press the MAIN button twice.
Press and Hold BOTH the MAIN and the DOWN thumbpad button at the same time to make it LIGHTER.

APPLICATION #3 Controlling Multiple Set Top Satellite or Cable Receivers.
Avoid the eyesore and clutter of a set top satellite receiver or cable box on top of every TV in the house by concealing them in a single remote location and controlling them flawlessly from each room via Complete Control. Notes for the System Designer Since Complete Control RF routing can distribute commands from each rooms remote control to a specific set top box, the System Designers only task is to plan the installation of the set top boxes in a single stack along with the necessary A/V cables from each dedicated set top box to each rooms TV. The RF signal from the Satellite Dish (or main CATV feed) should be distributed via splitters to each set top box. Each Complete Control RF Base Station can control up to six identical set top boxes. If you have more than six set top boxes, simply add another RF Base Station. Up to ninety identical set top boxes can be controlled in one household. Utilizing the MRF-300 is typically the best option for most installations because of its variable IR Line Outputs and expandable RF range capabilities (see Figure 3). Notes for the Installer Set the MRF-300 to an unused RF ID#. Create a device for each of the Satellite or Cable boxes and assign the corresponding six IR Line Outputs. Note the settings you will program for each sat receiver/cable box (see chart to right).

Introducing the most capable and comprehensive RF control system on the market today.
Complete Control provides your customer with the simplest way to control even the most sophisticated entertainment system. Our unique addressable RF Base Stations enable reliable, automated one-button control over a single room, or the entire housefrom anywhere inside or outside the home. The system integrates seamlessly with home theaters and whole-house multizone control systems. The flexible Radio Frequency (RF) architecture makes the system ideal for both new construction and retrofit installations.
The system is comprised of two major system componentsIR/RF-Capable Controls and Addressable RF Base Stations. Fully Customizable Controls The Complete Control system offers a range of controls to satisfy every application, user level and budget. Your customer can choose from a basic hand-held LCD control up to a full-color, touch screen tabletop control. The single most powerful feature of our controls is the ability to customize the control so that operation is made as simple as possible for your customer. For more details on our controls, see the section Select the Appropriate Control(s) on page 7. Addressable RF Base Stations One of the most amazing features of the system is addressing capability of the RF Base Stations. It enables the installation team to route control signals to operate specific groups of equipment, or the entire system simultaneously. This enables the customer to have full control over a houseful of equipment from anywhere inside or outside the home. Another key feature is the flexibility to place the A/V equipment where it makes the most sense for the customer. Youll find more detail on RF Base Stations in the section Select the Appropriate RF Base Station(s) on page 11. Control Without the Rules For the first time, your customers can operate their entertainment system without having to follow rules (which they often forget anyway). You know the rules.Point at the IR sensor on the wall, even though youre controlling the video equipment. or Hold the remote very steady for 12 seconds until the macro is completely done. or even Whatever you do, dont let anything get between your remote and the IR sensor. When the macro is disrupted, your customer then has to figure out how to reset the equipment (or he calls you to come out and fix the problem). By adding RF Base Stations to the system, your customer no longer has to point the control at a specific location prior to, and for the duration of, a macro. Also, unlike IR, the radio waves cant be disrupted by a spouse who gets up for a refill on popcorn. Finally, you can offer your customer the simplicity and convenience of reliable, one-touch automationevery timewithout the rules.

Notes for the Installer Set each MRF-300 to a different RF ID#. Create a device for each component and assign the first six to the first MRF-300 address and the corresponding six IR Line Outs. Continue with the rest of your components, noting the settings you will program for each device (see chart to right).

In this installation, a single RFX-150 RF Receiver gets signals from remotes throughout the house and passes the RF ID# and Line Output settings with each button push or macro step to the first MRF-300. Via the loop through RF Output, the second MRF-300 is fed its own RF ID# and Line Output settings without further programming. Its that easy. (See Figure 2)

Typical Applications

The following provides a technical overview for several typical applications. For more in-depth technical information please review URCs Case Studies, Training Guides and Manuals.
APPLICATION #1 Providing your client with No Rules operation in both the Master Bedroom and the Home Theater. Notes for the System Designer Specify an MRF-300 RF Base Station for any location requiring rear panel IR control, rather than conventional flashers. In this example system, both the two-zone receiver and the DVD/CD Changer have rear panel IR inputs, so the MRF-300 is specified. In the bedroom, the four components are all served perfectly via an MRF-250 Base Station (see Figure 1). Notes for the Installer By creating a device for each component, you are able to program a unique RF ID# and a dedicated IR Line Out for every component. If you have a two zone receiver or a multi-zone receiver, be sure to set a different IR Line Out for every zone. You will set a different RF ID# for each RF Base Station, then make a list on paper of which IR output is connected to which component (or zone) (see chart to right). Ideas for Programming Program punch-through for the correct Zone Volume and Mute commands for each device (if the remote is a master remote used in both rooms, duplicate any device used in both rooms, so that punch-through can be set differently). Program a macro that Turns Off the theater from the bedroom on the bedroom remote. Program a macro that Turns Off the bedroom from the theater on the theater remote. Program a macro that pauses the DVD, turns off the theater (except for the DVD changer), turns on the Bedroom system and configures it to watch the DVD playing in the DVD changer in the theater (of course this requires that the theater DVD has an A/V connection to the Bedroom TV). Program a macro that turns off the theater and turns on the bedroom to watch TV. Program a macro that turns off both the theater and the bedroom from both remotes.

APPLICATION #2 Controlling a System with more than Six Components.
In larger systems, the ability of the MRF-300 to daisy chain multiple units provides more reliable control via rear panel outputs, greater range and a neater, more professional installation (see Figure 2). Notes for the System Designer The MRF-300s versatility makes this installation look simple, yet it can accommodate multiple identical components or zones easily. Since each component has a unique address, commands are sent only to its IR Line Output. If you think you might need longer range, specify additional RFX-150s to cover any remote area and plan to install CAT 5 wire from the equipment location to the remote area.

So each member of the family can operate the system using their own custom-tailored screens. Imagine the comfort and simplicity that your customer will experience operating a control thats specifically designed for him or her.

STEP 2

Select the Appropriate RF Base Station(s) For Each Equipment Location.

The following outlines key system attributes that should be considered when recommending the appropriate control(s) for your customer. System Size and Complexity
In Step 1 you selected the appropriate control(s) for the system. Now its time to select the appropriate addressable RF Base Station(s). RF Base Stations receive the commands from the control and distribute them to the equipment or device that is being controlled. Base Stations are typically located with the equipment that is being controlled. Ideal for retrofit and new construction installations, adding a Base Station offers a multitude of benefits that distinguish it from traditional IR control systems.
Complete Control offers two RF (Radio Frequency) Base Stations, the MRF-300 and the MRF-250. The MRF-300 is designed for use with large and complex systems. The unit features a detached RF Receiver that can be placed in the optimum location for improved RF reception. Up to two additional RF Receivers (Model RFX-150) can be connected to the unit. This is useful for creating an array of reception or to bridge long distances between the user operating the control and the equipment location. The MRF-300 includes 6 adjustable IR outputs for connecting to components that utilize direct IR inputs, such as multizone preamps or receivers, or with components utilizing front-panel flashers. The MRF-250 is ideal for single zone systems, i.e., a master bedroom or for simple standalone systems utilizing standard IR emitters. The unit features an integrated RF receiver with a range of 50 -100 ft. (depending upon the environment).
Out of Sight For installations where room aesthetics is a priority, Complete Controls RF Base Stations enable your customer to place the equipment in a cabinet, closet, or in a totally different room.
Large and/or complex systems typically require more memory. Its important to outfit these systems with a control that has ultra-high or high memory capacity. Accommodating whole-house systems and extensive macros also require additional memory. Although smaller and/or more simple systems typically dont require as much capacity, there is value in investing in a control that has high-capacity memory. Doing so, will future-proof the control when the customer expands the system over time. Budget Specifying the appropriate control for each application will provide the customer with a greater return on his or her investment and often leads to a greater overall sale. Also, its important to emphasize the value of actually being able to enjoy the expensive system that your customer owns or is in the process of acquiring. Too often, a large expensive system is purchased and many, if not all, members of the family never tap into the systems true performancebecause it is simply too complicated to operate. User Level With Complete Control, higher-end doesnt mean more complicated. In fact, higher-end controls offer greater customization capability that benefits novice users, i.e., the ability to display only the desired functions. The power user also benefits from enhanced customization features by enabling complex multi-component "tweaking" from a single customized screen, rather than hav ing to switch back and forth between screens. With Complete Control, its possible to display customized interfaces for each of these user types on a single control!

High-End Controls Deliver Simplicity to Low-Tech Users A higher end control includes features that simplify operation for every member of the family including the novice.
No More Pointing Imagine if you had to point your phone every time you wanted to use it. With the addition of an RF Base Station, your customer will never have point again. They can even control the system as they stroll from room to roomeven from out on the patio.
The following chart summarizes different types of systems and recommends the appropriate control for each system.
Plasma Proof (By Design) Plasma TV's emit frequencies that can disrupt the functionality of IR sensors. Complete Control RF Base Stations eliminate this issue completely. When you think about it, why would you ever want to install an expensive plasma proof IR sensor? Locate the Equipment Where It Makes the Most Sense RF Base Stations enable your customer the flexibility to discretely locate their A/V equipment so the gear wont encroach upon their living space. The RF control signals easily pass through walls and ceilings allowing for multiple options to hide the equipment stack. One Touch Control Without the Rules Macros (a sequence of commands) simplify operation by launching all the commands necessary to complete a complicated taskall with a single touch of a button. However, when combined with an RF Base Station, the effectiveness of a macro increases exponentially. What does that mean? It means your customer no longer has to point the control at a specific location prior to, and for the duration of, the macro. It means that the IR stream of the macro will no longer be disrupted by a spouse who gets up for a refill on popcorn. You can offer your customer the simplicity and convenience of one-touch automation without rules. And your customer is rewarded with simple, reliable controlevery time.
