MC Informatica

The Challenge:
Install four Xerox printers in MC Informaticas office and avoid using Ethernet cables, which would have been unaesthetic and inconvenient. in a renovated historic building comprising four rooms covering a total area of 260 square meters.

The Solution:

U.S. Robotics Access Point (USR5450), cabled to the Ethernet network and set in Access Point mode, and four other Access Points (USR5450) one for each printer in client mode.

The Results:

All the functions of Xerox devices available in a network, printing possible from any workstation, inconvenient cables eliminated.

MC Informatica has decades of experience in the field of IT. The company specialises in the design, creation and development of advanced integrated systems for medium and large companies. MC Informatica operates both in Italy and abroad, collaborating globally with major hardware and software producers.

The Solution

The simplest and most efficient solution was to use a U.S. Robotics Access Point (USR5450), cabled to the Ethernet network and set in Access Point mode, and four other Access Points (USR5450) one for each printer in client mode. The central Access Points signal proved sufficiently strong to cover the entire area concerned, while remaining well within legal limits. This was by no means a given, since walls of a certain thickness often block the wireless signal. The use of Access Points in client mode also helped improve performance. One final and important aspect is security. Even though the building is insulated, the company chose to eliminate any risk of external access to the network by concealing the SSID (the name of the wireless network) and by using WEP encryption, two options that are available with the U.S. Robotics USR5450 Access Point. The same solution can be implemented with the U.S. Robotics Access Point USR2249.

The Challenge

The companys main office is in Pilastro di Langhirano, Italy. The office is located in a renovated historic building and comprises four rooms covering a total area of 260 square meters. MC Informatica wanted to install four Xerox printers in its office, which would each be connected to the computers in the LAN. The aim was to avoid using Ethernet cables, which would have been unaesthetic and inconvenient. One possibility was to pass the cables through the walls. But this solution posed obvious problems. Firstly, the buildings walls are thicker than those of modern buildings. Secondly, making modifications to the building would change its original structure.
