CDX-05 FAQs

1. HOW DOES THE "REAL VINYL SCRATCHING" WORK AS I CAN'T SEE ANY REAL VINYL? For the "REAL VINYL SCRATCHING" an additional unit, the TASCAM TT-M1 Controller is required. This mounts on any turntable (preferably Vestax PDX-series). When you are scratching the vinyl, the audio sound follows the movement of the vinyl. 2. DO I HAVE TO BUY A LAPTOP OR COMPUTER FOR THIS? NO! You can scratch just with the CDX-05, or with a turntable and TT-M1. 3. DO I NEED A SPECIAL VINYL? NO! You can use any vinyl you have; it also works without vinyl as the TT-M1 only follows the movement of the platter, but the feeling is missing.

1. WHAT IS THE SECURITY OR PROTECT FUNCTION? The built-in limitation is used to prevent the input gain signal from being overloaded. Once this signal is overloaded at the input gain stage, it is virtually impossible to correct any distortion further down the audio chain. The PMC 500 has built in limiting switches which can only be accessed from within the mixer or from the rear. In the same line of thought, the EQ section can have a +4dB boost, leaving the infinite cut feature. The output levels can be individualy attenuated. Ultimately, these features are designed to prevent system overload and possible damage to PA equipment,making the PMC-500 attractive to venue owners and large PA hire companies. 2. WHAT IS THE CROSSFADER CURVE USED FOR? Crossfader curves are common on hip-hop mixers, but are only found on higher end installation mixers. In a beatmixing application (as opposed to a scratching / turntablist application), this control is used to taper beatmixing curves, often during a mix itself, where the levels between the tracks will change but the output level from the mixer will stay the same. 3. WHAT IS THE MASTER LOOP USED FOR? This feature is used for connection to external mastering tools during a performance. Often these processors are carried by the artists themselves, hence the placement of the input and output connectors on the top panel. An example of such a unit is the Vestax DCR 1200 PRO 4 band isolator. The big advantage is a duration of (tested) 2 million passes without audible loss of quality whereas Standard high class faders die after about 100.000 passes. 2. WILL I BE ABLE TO HEAR THE CHANGE OF THE SOUND THROUGH THE SOUND CONTROL IN MY HEADPHONES? The new design structure of the mixer and the monitor circuit also enables you to monitor every sound change you are setting on your Isolator controls. 3. WHAT ARE THE FREQUENCY CUT AND BOOSTS IN THE EQ SECTION? These mixers have a full 3-band Isolator tone control on each channel which allows an infinite cut and a boost of 4dB (VMC-002) or 6dB (VMC-004) on each frequency range. 4. CAN I REPLACE THE EXISTING CROSSFADER WITH A PRO FADER WITH ADJUSTABLE CURVE CONTROL? 1. I HAVE JUST BOUGHT A VMC-185 AND HAVE INSTALLED THE MIXER, BUT THE CROSSFADER DOSE NOT SEEM TO BE WORKING. WHAT SHOULD I DO? It is quite common for the first connection of a VMC-185 to be made using PGM 1 and PGM 2. The crossfader is assigned between PGM 1 and PGM 3, and PGM 2 is the "extra" channel which is sent directly to the master output. A "quick check" over the phone or by e-mail can often fix what the customer has thought to be a "problem". 2. WHAT IS THE EFFECT SEND AND RETURN USED FOR? The effect section is used to connect external effects unit. If you do not need an Effect, the effect return can be used as an additional stereo input. 3. I NEED A BOOTH OUTPUT FOR MY INSTALLATION, BUT THE VMC-185 DOES NOT APPEAR TO HAVE ONE. WHAT SHOULD I DO? Please try the MASTER 2 outputs. This is just another name for booth output.

1. CAN I CHANGE THE SECOND HEADPHONE OUTPUT TO A MIC INPUT? No, this is not possible within the circuitry of the mixer.To have a mic input as well as the existing features of the PMC-06PROA, the PMC-05PROmk2 would be the appropriate choice. 2. I HAVE A RECORD THAT HAS POOR MID RANGE FREQUENCIES IN THE RECORDING, BUT THE PMC-06PROA ONLY HAS BASS AND TREBLE CONTROLS. WHAT SHOULD I DO?
