OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS Version 10/03
In commercial and industrial facilities, the regulations for the prevention of accidents as laid down by the professional trade association for electrical equipment and devices need to be observed. Measuring devices used at schools, training facilities, do-it-yourself and hobby workshops should not be handled unless supervised by trained, responsible personnel. Put the EC 3000 into service only if its casing is safely closed and locked by bolts. Avoid operating the device under unfavourable ambient conditions because they will cause damage to the sensitive electronic equipment inside the charger and, hence, constitute a possible hazard for the user's life. Unfavourable ambient conditions are: - Excessively high dampness (> 75 % R.H., condensing) - Moisture - Dust, inflammable gases, vapours, solvents, petrols - Excessively high ambient temperatures (> abt. +40 C) If there is reason to believe that safe operation has become impossible put the device out of operation and secure it against any unintended operation. Safe operation must be presumed to be no longer possible, if - the device exhibits visible damage - the device does not operate any longer, and - the device was stored under unfavourable conditions for a long period of time or - the device was exposed to extraordinary stress caused by transport. Never connect your EC 3000 to the mains immediately after it has been brought from a cold into a warm room. Condensation water that forms might destroy your device. Leave the EC 3000 switched off and wait until it has reached room temperature.
Note: The price display is not limited to any definite currency unit (for instance, the display 0.240 / 0.120 may relate to Swiss francs (CHF) or Euros)), but the price units in the descriptions are all provided in Euros. c) Modes of operation The EC 3000 may be operated in the two modes of operation which follow: "Normal" mode (after the plug-in) The "STA/STP and "ON TIME keys have no function in the normal mode. The main display of the LCD (= Liquid Crystal Display) shows the actual power consumption of a power-consuming device connected to the instrument. The display below it (sub-display) represents those costs per hour which are caused by the power-consuming device on the basis of the preset tariff (see para "b1 Tariff input").

Introduction

Dear customer, The Energy Check 3000 which you acquired is a power-measuring device which complies with the latest state of the art. It will now enable you to determine the costs you will incur for the energy of your "current eaters" in a simplest way. The Energy Check 3000 was tested for safety and electromagnetic compatibility and, hence, meets the requirements of the current European and national guidelines. Conformity has been established and the relevant statements and documents have been deposited at the manufacturer. We kindly request the user to follow the operating instructions to preserve this condition and to ensure safe operation.
Example of display: 1842 W x 1h x 0,24 Euro / kWh = 0.442 Euro, i.e. the costs per hour amount to about 44.2 cents (0.442 Euro). To switch over to the next tariff, press the "MODE" key and keep it depressed until the other tariff is displayed. As soon as you let the key go the device calculates and displays the costs based on the second tariff (tariff II).
To return to the "Normal" mode of operation from the "Record" (REC) mode press the "STA/STP and "MODE keys simultaneously for more than 2 seconds. The accumulated data is erased while the preset tariffs remain stored. The "REC", "ON", and "TIME" symbols are no longer visible.

Disposal

Dispose of the Energy Check 3000, which has become unserviceable (cannot be repaired) according to the legal provisions in force.

To change from the normal mode to the record mode, briefly press the "MODE" key.
Maintenance Connection / Putting into service, Settings
a) How to connect and put into service Connect the EC 3000 to a proper 230 V earthing protective contact socket. The device will automatically switch to the "Normal" mode (see para "Modes of operation"). Connect the power-consuming electric device, when turned off, to the measuring instrument. b) How to make settings b1 Tariff input The EC 3000 makes it possible to store two different tariffs. They are stored in an EEPROM upon approval and will not be lost even though power supply is discontinued.

The EC 3000 needs no maintenance except for occasional cleaning. It may not be opened or modified. If the EC 3000 is opened or disassembled notwithstanding this will cause any guarantee to expire. For cleaning, use a clean cloth which is antistatic and non-fluffy.

Display:

To start storing, press the "STA/STP key. While storing is under way a stop clock will run (with a colon flashing). The "REC" symbol (for "record" or storage) can be seen at left above the time display. Actuating the "STA/STP key another time will terminate the storage procedure. The "MODE key enables you to invoke up to five different measurements in succession:
Attention: To clean the device, do not use carbon-containing cleansing agents or petrols, alcohols or similar agents because this will damage the surface of the charger. The fumes are also a health hazard and explosive. Moreover, you should not use sharp-edged tools, screwdrivers, metallic brushes or similar objects for cleaning.

Tariff I:

Press and keep simultaneously depressed the "STA/STP, "ON TIME, and "MODE keys for about 4 seconds. The device switches to the tariff input mode and the LCD shows the actual setting of tariff I in costs per kWh (0.00/kWh). The right-hand digital digit is flashing. Press the "ON TIME" key to set the value of the flashing digit of the display to the value desired by you. Each keystroke signifies one digit more (.0.1.2.3.4). Press the "STA/STP key to pass to the next display digit and set it to the value desired by you by means of the "ON TIME" key. Repeat this step until all display digits have been set to the desired value.

Prescribed use:
The "Energy Check 3000" measuring device (briefly: EC) was developed for monitoring and measuring power-consuming electrical equipment. A tariff input (see tariff entry "Tariff I" or "Tariff II) enables you to automatically calculate the operating costs of the power-consuming electrical equipment to be measured and to visualize them on an LCD display. The measuring range of the EC 3000 is from 1.5 W to a maximum of 3000 W. If these limits are exceeded or are fallen short of precise measurements are no longer possible. In addition, this will excessively load the device and possibly destroy it. The EC 3000 is supplied with 230 V A.C. voltage and uses no batteries. The data required for the tariffs is stored by means of an EEPROM. The data remain stored even in case of power failure. Do not use the device in damp rooms or outdoors or under unfavourable ambient conditions. Unfavourable ambient conditions are: - Moisture or excessively high relative air humidity - Dust and inflammable gases, vapours or solvents - Heavy vibrations Any use other than the one described above damages the product. Moreover, this involves dangers such as e.g. short-circuit, fire, electric shocks, etc. No part of the product may be modified or rebuilt. Always observe the safety instructions and technical specifications.

The "ON TIME key allows you to turn on the time display. This can be done during and after the storage phase. REC TIME ON TIME is the full storage time. is that time in which the power-consuming device was turned on. Dimensions (L x H x W)

Tariff II:

After tariff I is set, if you immediately press the "MODE key once more for about 4 seconds and keep it depressed the device will switch to the tariff input mode for tariff II. To set tariff II, repeat the above described steps and, then, briefly press the MODE key once for a return to the normal mode of operation.

The user should observe the safety instructions and warning indications comprised in this manual to preserve this condition and ensure riskless operation. The device was constructed in conformity with safety class I. Take care not to interrupt the protective conductor passing through the device because there is a danger to life in a failure case if the protective conductor is interrupted. Also, take care not to damage or destroy its insulation.

3. Actual power of the electric device when turned on
Example of display: How to exit from the programming mode: To leave the programming mode and store the tariffs, press the "MODE key once. The device will return to the normal mode of operation. After a calculation time of about 2 seconds has passed the sub-display of the LCD will show the costs per hour based on the tariff which was preset.
