hanks for choosing the VOX AD15VT-XL, AD30VT-XL, AD50VT-XL or AD100VT-XL Valvetronix amp. To ensure a long and trouble-free relationship with your new amp, please read this manual carefully, use the amp as directed and keep the manual for future reference.
The XL-series uses Valve Reactor technology, and feature a power amp circuit containing a 12AX7 (ECC83) dual triode valve (vacuum tube) that would normally be used in a preamp. This allows the amp to produce the true sound and feel of a bona de all valve (tube) amp. Sophisticated modeling technology is used to provide eleven different amps. They range from classic vintage amps of the past to current expensive high-end valve amps, and are accessible at the turn of a knob. Eleven high-quality effects are built in and seven are multi effects that let you use two effects simultaneously plus Noise Reduction. You can store your favorite amp and effect settings as a program, which contain two different settings (CH1 and CH2). You can switch between these settings from the top panel, or by using the optional VFS2 foot switch connected to the rear panel (Channel Select mode). In addition, theres one preset program for each amp type (Preset mode). In Manual mode the sound you hear will reect the physical settings of the knobs. If you connect the optional VFS2 dual foot switch (sold separately), you can use it to switch programs or bypass effects. The power level control (The AD15VT-XL doesnt have this feature.) lets you adjust the output wattage of the power amp. This means that even when the master volume is turned up to the max to drive the Valve Reactor power amp, you can adjust the volume without losing any tone. The external speaker out jack (AD50VT-XL / AD100VT-XL only) lets you connect a guitar speaker cabinet (8 ohm) of your choice. The effect send/return jacks (AD100VT-XL only) allow you to connect your external effect processor in a loop connection.
Your guitar sound passes through the following sections. (You can refer to The Guitarists Guided Panel Tour while you read the explanation that follows.)

VALVE REACTOR TECHNOLOGY
THE POWER (AMP) AND THE GLORY!
Since conventional modeling effects for line recording are not used directly with a speaker, they do not include a power amp circuit, output transformer, or speaker. In other words, they only have a preamp circuit. A real valve amp sound, however, is produced not just by the preamp, but also by the tone and distortion of the power amp, and by the constant changes in impedance that are created by the power amp driving the speakers. The XL-series contains an actual low-wattage valve power amp circuit, a virtual output transformer (patent applied for) that uses solid-state components to simulate an output transformer, and a dummy speaker circuit that simulates the varying impedance of a real speaker. This means that although its lowpower, the power amps used in both the XL-series has the same circuit structure of an actual all-valve (tube) amp. While much of the tone creation and shaping carried out is done in the digital domain, the Valve Reactor power amp is 100% analogue. The resulting journey your guitars signal takes through the analogue world of the power stage plays a major role in providing the all-important feel and tone of the original amps we modelled. The Valve Reactor power stage is, to all intents and purposes, a bona de valve (tube) push-pull power amplier, but in miniature. It utilizes a 12AX7 (ECC83) valve (a dual triode device meaning two valves in one) and is equipped with an output transformer, just like a real valve amp. The power amp output signal is designed to read the constantly changing impedance curve of the dummy speaker circuit system and feed this information back to the virtual output transformer just like an all valve amplier does. This information permits the behavior of the valve stage to vary with the speaker load (impedance), which is another important part of real world valve tone.
4. PRESET/MANUAL/CHANNEL SECTION
PRESET and LED This button puts your Valvetronix amp into Preset mode and you can use the AMP selector to select a typical setting for each amp type. If the PRESET LED is lit, youre in Preset mode! MANUAL and LED This button puts your Valvetronix amp into Manual mode which means the physical position of each knob (except for the EDIT 1 knob) determines exactly what you will hear. This means that the amp will operate just like a conventional guitar amp. If the MANUAL LED is lit, youre in Manual mode. CH (Channel), CH1/CH2 LEDs This button switches between the two channels and The LED of the selected channel will light. In Preset or Manual mode, the CH1 and CH2 LEDs will be dark. If from either of these modes you then press this CH button, youll switch to Channel Select mode, and the channel (1 or 2) that you selected most recently will become active.
WRITE button Use this button to save a new program into CH1 or CH2. Refer to Storing your program (page 17).
5. POWER SWITCH
When the power is on, the indicator located above the switch will be lit.
B. Rear Panel
AC power This is where you connect the included power cord. FOOT SW You can connect the optional VFS2 dual foot switch (sold separately) here, and use it to switch programs or bypass the effect while you perform. POWER LEVEL This adjusts the output wattage of the power amp.
AD30VT-XL: less than 0.1 W 30 W AD100VT-XL: less than 0.2 W 100 W NOTE: The AD15VT-XL doesnt have this control. NOTE: The power level setting isnt saved as part of the program. AD50VT-XL: less than 0.15 W 50 W
This control lets you get that highly desirable, fat, warm sound of the Valvetronix power stage being driven hard (a common trait of all great valve power amps), at various levels. This will enable you to play comfortably in a small room or compromising your all-important tone. LINE/PHONE Use this jack if youre plugging directly in to a mixer, recording device, or if youre using headphones. The output from this jack is taken from immediately before the ValveReactor power amp, and the character of the guitar amp cabinet is applied to it.
CHANNEL SELECT MODE (SELECTING A CHANNEL PROGRAM)
In Channel Select mode you can press the CH button to recall the program saved in each channel (CH1 and CH2), automatically switching all of the amp and effect parameters.
GETTING TO CHANNEL SELECT MODE
If the CH1 and CH2 LEDs are dark, youre not in Channel Select mode. Press the CH button. Either the CH1 or CH2 LED will light, and youll be in Channel Select mode.
NOTE: If the CH1 or CH2 LED is blinking (i.e., when youre in the middle of selecting a writing-destination for the program), the program wont switch when you press the CH button the rst time. In this case, press the TAP button to stop the blinking.
With either the CH1 or CH2 LED lit, press the CH switch. The channel will change each time you press the button, and the program stored in each channel will be recalled. (The physical settings of the top panel selector knobs and control knobs are ignored at this time.)
HINT: If the optional VFS2 dual foot switch is connected to the rear panel, you can use it to switch programs. For details, refer to Using the VSF2 dual foot switch (page 19). HINT: If you want to bypass the effect, press the BYPASS button. If the BYPASS LED is lit, there is no effect. To turn the effect on, press the BYPASS button once to turn off the LED. The XL-series remember the bypass setting even if you switch modes or programs, or turn off the power.
When the XL-series is in Manual mode, it works just like a non-programmable guitar amp. In other words, the positions of all top panel selectors and knobs (except for the EDIT 1 knob) indicate exactly what youre hearing.
GETTING TO MANUAL MODE
If the MANUAL LED is dark, youre not in Manual mode. Press the MANUAL button; the MANUAL LED will light, and youll be in Manual mode.
NOTE: If the CH1 or CH2 LED is blinking (i.e., when youre in the middle of selecting a writing-destination for the program), the MANUAL LED wont light when you press the MANUAL button the rst time. In this case, simply press the MANUAL button once again. NOTE: In Manual mode when you edit parameters that arent dened by a knob setting (i.e., effect parameters or noise reduction settings), those settings are saved automatically, and will be recalled the next time you enter Manual mode. However if the EFFECTS selector is at a different position than it was when you were last in Manual mode, the default settings for that effect type will be loaded. HINT: If you want to bypass the effect, press the BYPASS button. If the BYPASS LED is lit, there is no effect. To turn the effect on, press the BYPASS button once to turn off the LED. The XL-series remembers the bypass setting even if you switch modes, programs, or turn off the power.
Creating and storing your own program
here are two ways you can do this; by tweaking an existing preset program thats close to what you have in mind, or by starting from scratch.
CREATING YOUR OWN PROGRAM
Lets start from scratch. 1. Choose any program in Preset or Channel Select mode, or select Manual mode.
HINT: Since were starting from scratch it doesnt matter what program you choose.
2. Use the BYPASS button to bypass the effect. (The BYPASS LED is lit.) If you want to use an effect, you can add it at the end of this process. 3. Use the AMP selector to select the amp you want to use.
HINT: For details on the amp types, refer to Amp models and effects (page 20).
4. Adjust the top panel GAIN, VOLUME, TREBLE, MIDDLE, and BASS knobs as desired. 5. Hold down the TAP button and turn the EDIT 1 knob to adjust the noise reduction. This setting is also saved as part of your program. For details, refer to Adjusting the noise reduction (page 16)
HINT: Adjust the noise reduction so that you dont hear noise when youre not playing your guitar.
6. If you want to use an effect, press the BYPASS switch once again to turn bypass off (the BYPASS LED goes dark). 7. Select an effect, and make adjustments. For example if you want to add delay, turn the EFFECT selector to DELAY. If the selector is already set to DELAY, youll have to turn it to a different effect and then back to DELAY. Use the TAP button or EDIT 1 knob to adjust the delay time and delay level (the amount of delayed sound). DELAY TIME: DELAY LEVEL: DELAY FEEDBACK: Press the TAP button twice (at the desired interval), or hold down the TAP button and turn EDIT 1. Turn EDIT 1 (without pressing any button). Turn EDIT 1 while holding down the BYPASS button.
HINT: For details on the effects, refer to Amp models and effects (page 20).
8. When youve come up with a sound you like, store the program.
NOTE: In Preset or Channel Select mode, the changes you made will be lost if you switch to a different program or Manual mode or turn off the power without storing the program rst. NOTE: The effect bypass setting isnt stored as part of the program.
ADJUSTING THE NOISE REDUCTION
Heres how to adjust the noise reduction.
NOTE: The noise reduction setting is part of each program. In Preset and Channel Select modes, your setting will be lost if you switch to a different program or to Manual mode (or turn off the power) without storing your edited program rst.
1. Press the BYPASS button to make the BYPASS LED light. 2. Hold down the TAP button and turn the EDIT 1 knob to adjust the noise reduction sensitivity. Turning the knob toward the right will produce greater noise reduction (less noise). If you turn the knob all the way to the left, noise reduction will be off, and wont do anything (more noise).
NOTE: Depending on the guitar youre using, excessively high noise reduction settings may cause notes to be cut off in an unwanted manner!
3. If you want to use effects, press the BYPASS button to make the BYPASS LED go dark and the effect(s) will be heard.
STORING YOUR PROGRAM
When youve come up with a sound you like, you should store (write) the program. 1. Press the WRITE button. The CH1 or CH2 LED will blink. 2. Press the CH button to select the channel in which you want to store your program. The program will be stored in the channel whose indicator is blinking.
HINT: If, during this process, you decide that you really dont want to store the program, you can press the TAP button to cancel at this point. The LED will stop blinking, and youll return to the mode in which you were.
3. Press the WRITE button once again. Your program will be saved in the specied channel, and the LED of the destination channel will stop blinking and remain lit.
NOTE: The program that was previously stored in that channel will be overwritten; in other words, the settings that used to be stored in the channel you selected in step 2 will be erased. NOTE: The effect bypass setting isnt stored as part of the program. NOTE: If youre creating your sound in Preset or Channel Select mode, your changes will disappear if you switch to a different program or to Manual mode before storing.
CHECKING THE SETTINGS OF A PROGRAM (ORIGINAL VALUES)
If you want to nd out exactly what settings are saved in a preset or user program, you can use the Original Value function. When youre turning a knob to adjust the value of a parameter, and the value at that moment matches the value that is saved in the program (i.e., the original value), the PRESET LED will blink if youre in Preset mode, or the channel LED will blink if youre in Channel Select mode.
HINT: When youve found a program you like, and want to know just what settings it contains, simply use this Original Value function! NOTE: Since the top panel MASTER volume, the rear panel POWER LEVEL control are not programmed, the original value display will not occur for these settings. Also, the Original Value function doesnt operate in manual mode.
RESTORING THE FACTORY SETTINGS
Heres how you can restore the factory settings.
NOTE: If you do this, the programs you saved in the channels will be completely erased, and will be reset to the factory settings. NOTE: Effect and noise reduction settings made in the Manual mode will also be erased.
1. Turn the power off. 2. While holding down both the CH and WRITE buttons, turn the power on. When the CH1 and CH2 LEDs begin blinking, release these two buttons.
HINT: If you decide to abort this operation, press the TAP switch at this point.
3. When you press the WRITE switch, the CH1 and CH2 LEDs will change from blinking to lit. Initialization will be completed in a few seconds, and the amp will switch to Preset mode.
NOTE: Never turn off the power while initialization is taking place.
Using the VFS2 dual foot switch
f the optional VFS2 dual foot switch (sold separately) is connected to the rear panel FOOT SW jack, you can use it to switch programs or turn effect bypass on/off.
VFS2 left switch (switch 1): Switches channel programs VFS2 right switch (switch 2): Switches bypass on/off, or turn Manual mode on
SWITCHING THE CHANNEL PROGRAM (SWITCH 1)
Each time you press the VFS2s left switch (switch 1), youll alternate between CH1 and CH2.
NOTE: Switch 1 has the same function as the channel select switch on the top panel. If you press switch 1 in Preset mode or Manual mode, youll change over to Channel Select mode. Also, pressing switch 1 during the process of storing a program (the CH1 or CH2 LED is blinking) will change the store-destination.
TURNING EFFECT BYPASS ON/OFF (SWITCH 2)
Hold down the top panel BYPASS switch and press the VFS2s right switch (switch 2). This assigns the function of switch 2 as bypass on/off. Now when you press switch 2, effect bypass will alternately be turned on/off.
HINT: The amp will remember the switch 2 assignment. This setting is remembered even if you switch modes or programs, or turn off the power.
SWITCHING TO MANUAL MODE (SWITCH 2)
Hold down the top panel MANUAL switch and press the VFS2s right switch (switch 2). This assigns the function of switch 2 as Manual mode. Now when you press switch 2, the amp will switch to Manual mode.
Amp models and effects
In this section were going to talk about the eleven amp models and effects.
XL AMP MODELS
For the XL range of ampliers, we wanted to design an amp with a selection of sounds that would span the entire range of heavy music. We already had a truckload of great amp models from the acclaimed "VT" or "Chrome" series, so we set to work brainstorming ways that we could modify these sounds for the heavy player, at times throwing out the rule book entirely. We found ourselves asking things like "What would this British head sound like if it were Class A rather than Class AB? What if we gave a Californiastyle EQ to a Bristish amp or vice versa? The results are some of the hottest hard rock and metal sounds we've designed to date. And all of them are based on some of the most legendary amps in history. So plug in an turn up. Extreme lead awaits!
NOTE: The Molten preset features our Octave effect. When the Octave effect is on, we do not recommend playing chords unless you are going for an unusual effect!
Originals tube compliment: 4 x 12AX7s in preamp, 4 x 6L6s in power amp.
This sound was created when we were having some fun mutating our UK Modern model. We wondered what this famous UK-made 100-watt hi-gain amp would sound like if it operated in Class A, rather than Class AB. With this modication, BLACK was born! Like the other XL sounds, it's tailor-made for hi-gain shred, and it's a totally unique sound you can only nd in the XL range! Originals valve compliment: 4 x ECC83s in preamp, 4 x EL34s in power amp.
For the DAMAGED sound, we started with a US HI GAIN model and then pretty much tossed out the rule book in our quest for gain. Not only did we crank the gain to searing levels, but we completely re-voiced and modied the EQ of the original model. DAMAGED is a thick, dark ultra hi-gain sound. Warn your neighbors and get ready to shred! Originals tube compliment: 4 x 12AX7s in preamp, 4 x 6L6s in power amp.
The XL-series provides eleven of the most popular effects (some effects actually combine two effects). you can adjust the SPEED parameter of modulation effects or the TIME parameter of delay/reverb effects simply by pressing the TAP switch twice. In addition to using the EDIT 1 knob to adjust the most important parameters, you can make more detailed adjustments by holding down the TAP button or BYPASS button while turning the EDIT 1 knob.

NOTE: In order to adjust the effect parameters, Effect Bypass must be off (BYPASS LED dark). If you hold down the TAP switch and turn the EDIT 1 knob when bypass is on (BYPASS LED lit), youll be adjusting the noise reduction not the effect parameter. HINT: If dont want to use an effect in a channel program, select either DELAY or REVERB as the effect type, and turn the EDIT 1 knob all the way to the left. This will set the DELAY LEVEL or REVERB LEVEL to the minimum setting.
This effect generates a note one octaves lower than the one you're playing, adding thickness and "weight" to single note lines. EDIT1 MIX Adjusts the mix level of the note one octave below.
HINT:Like all pedals of this type, OCTAVE only works with single notes.chords confuse the heck out of it! NOT a fault - that's just the way these pedals operate.
Want to play a clean passage that needs to be nice, smooth, and even? Need a bit more sustain on a lead line? Then look no further; COMP is the effect for you. Its modeled on a compressor pedal that is hugely popular due to the percussive clean sound it can produce making it perfect for 80s and 90s pop and funk rhythm work. It can also add a singing, mellow, sustain to lead lines clean or dirty. EDIT1 SENS Adjusts the sensitivity of the compressor. Turning the knob toward the right will increase the amount of compression and sustain. If you turn the knob all the way to the left, the effect is OFF. Adjusts the strength of the attack.
EDIT2 [TAP+EDIT 1]
HINT: In the COMP+PHASER and COMP+CHORUS combination effects, the ATTACK parameter is already set to the optimal value.
A model of a much respected and popular analogue phaser, housed in a banana yellow box! TAP SPEED Sets the modulation speed in a range of 0.1.10 [Hz]. EDIT2 SPEED This lets you use the knob to make ne adjustments [TAP+EDIT 1] to the parameter. EDIT3 RESONANCE Adjusts the amount of resonance. [BYPASS+EDIT 1]
This models the rich sound of an analog chorus unit. TAP EDIT2 [TAP+EDIT 1] SPEED SPEED Sets the modulation speed in a range of 0.1.10 [Hz]. This lets you use the knob to make ne adjustments to the parameter.
HINT: In the CHORUS+DELAY combination effect, the SPEED parameter is already set to the optimal value.
EDIT3 MIX [BYPASS+EDIT 1]
Adjusts the mix amount of the effect.
A model of a truly classic anger that unchained a highly inuential modern guitarist who many hail as the godfather of two-handed tapping.
This effect is based on the highly acclaimed tremolo circuit found in an amplier modeled for one of our amp models, FUNKED. TAP SPEED SPEED EDIT2 [TAP+EDIT 1] EDIT3 DEPTH [BYPASS+EDIT 1] Sets the tremolo speed in a range of 2.5.10 [Hz]. This lets you use the knob to make ne adjustments to the parameter. Adjusts the tremolo depth.
This models a rotary speaker. TAP SPEED Sets the rotational speed of the speaker in a range of 0.8.10 [Hz]. This lets you use the knob to make ne adjustments to the parameter. By adjusting this parameter you can make the rotational speed change automatically in response to the volume of your guitar. If you use this function, set the SPEED to a slow setting.
EDIT2 SPEED [TAP+EDIT 1] EDIT3 SENS [BYPASS+EDIT 1]
This is a model of one of the most respected analogue tape echo machines ever made. In the original the echo is produced by a playback head and the exact delay time is set by varying the motor speed. Many professionals prefer these lo- units because of the warm, dark echoes they produce. TAP TIME EDIT1 MIX EDIT2 TIME [TAP+EDIT 1] EDIT3 FEEDBACK [BYPASS+EDIT 1] Sets the delay time in a range of 1.1486 [ms]. Adjust the mix amount of the delayed sound. This lets you use the knob to make ne adjustments to the parameter. Adjusts the amount of feedback.
HINT: In the CHORUS+DELAY combination effect, the FEEDBACK parameter is already set to the optimal value. WARNING! If you crank up the FEEDBACK too much, an uncontrollable, cascading runaway of echoes will occur. So, use your ears and your common sense when setting this!
A model of the most popular spring reverb system used in guitar amps. TAP TIME EDIT1 MIX EDIT2 TIME [TAP+EDIT 1] HI DAMP EDIT3 [BYPASS+EDIT 1] Sets the reverb time in a range of 0.8.8 [seconds]. Adjusts the mix amount of the reverb sound. This lets you use the knob to adjust the reverb time. Adjusts the dampening of the high-frequency range.
HINT: In combination effects, the TIME and HI DAMP parameters are already set to optimal values.
1.The amp isnt powering up when the POWER switch is ON. Is the power cable plugged into the AC power connector on the rear panel of the amp? Is the power cable plugged into an AC outlet? Is the AC outlet switched on and actually working? Does the power cable work? 2. Theres no sound coming from the amp Is your guitar turned up? Are both ends of your guitar cable plugged into where they should be? Is your guitar cable working? Is the top panel MASTER volume turned up? Do you have headphones or anything else plugged into the amps rear panel LINE/PHONE jack? If yes, unplug! (If youre using the AD50VT-XL/AD100VT-XL) Could a cable be connected to the rear panel [EXTERNAL SPEAKER OUT] jack? Disconnect this jack if youre not using an external speaker. If you dont hear sound from a connected external speaker, make sure that your speaker cable and external speaker are not broken or malfunctioning. Check the settings of the GAIN, VOLUME, TREBLE, MIDDLE and BASS. On certain amp types, if the TREBLE, MIDDLE, and BASS controls are all turned down, there will be little or no sound coming from the amp due to the way the circuit of the original works. If youre in Manual mode (the MANUAL LED lit), turn the following controls above their minimum setting: GAIN, VOLUME, TREBLE, MIDDLE, and BASS. (AD100VT-XL users) Could a cable be connected to only the LOOP [RETURN] jack of the rear panel? Connect the cable from the LOOP [SEND] jack to your external effect unit, and connect the output of that effect unit to the LOOP [RETURN] jack. Adjust the output level of your external effect unit to an appropriate volume.
3. The amp doesnt seem very loud Is your guitar turned up? Is the amps MASTER volume turned down low? (If youre using the AD30VT-XL/AD50VT-XL/AD100VT-XL) Is the POWER LEVEL knob on the rear panel turned down?
Check the settings of the GAIN, VOLUME, TREBLE, MIDDLE, and BASS controls.
4. Theres no sound heard from the LINE/PHONE jack when you use it. Check that the top panel MASTER volume isnt turned all the way down. Make sure sound is coming from the amp. IMPORTANT NOTE: Youll need to unplug your headphones or cable from the LINE/PHONE jack to do this, since plugging something into this jack automatically mutes the amps speakers. The EF86: The magical VOX tone What is it that makes EF86-based VOX amplifiers some of the most collectible in the world? Maybe its the way the amp naturally overdrives, almost breathing with a life of its own. Dynamic changes in pick attack almost seem to be anticipated before you make them. Or maybe its the raw power of the creamy distortion as you crank the amp all the way up and slam down on a power chord. Whatever it is, there is an undeniable magic about this period of VOX amplification. An age when the most simple of circuits produced some of the most complex of tones. Now in short supply, the EF86 Pentode tube is at the heart of this elusive tone. Fifty years later, the magic returns.
Rather than just a typical reissue where a vintage amp is dusted off and copied, the Heritage Collection amplifiers transport you through the golden age of VOX tone, combining the prized EF86 preamp channel of 1960 with the 1963 Top Boost channel all-in-one amplifier. Add in some modern tone shaping control enhancements and the result is perhaps the finest series of VOX amplifiers in the companys 50-year history.
The AC30H2 and AC30HH: The ultimate AC30 The iconic AC30 has been through many permutations over its vast history. Now we are pleased to introduce the most exclusive and superbly crafted AC30 to date. The hand-wired 30-Watt AC30H2 Heritage combo features two channels of hand crafted VOX tone through two 12" Celestion AlNiCo Blue speakers. The tube complement for both the AC30H2 and AC30HH consists of 1 x EF86, 3 x ECC83/12AX7, 4 x EL84 and 1 x GZ34 (rectifier). The AC15H1TV and AC15HTVH: A detailed look The 15-Watt handwired AC15 combo features two channels of VOX tone through a single 12" Celestion AlNiCo Blue speaker. The tube complement for both the AC15H1TV combo and AC15HTVH head is made up of 1 x EF86, 3 x ECC83/12AX7, 2 x EL84 and 1 x EZ81 (rectifier).
Channel surfing The Heritage Collection boasts two independent channels: Channel 1 is the EF86 Preamp channel and features two inputs wired in the traditional way that gives them a 6 dB gain difference between them. A two-position BASS SHIFT switch is included, with position 1 voiced to the original vintage-correct bass response and position 2 voiced to tighten the bass response and reduce any muddiness during high volume use. The three-position BRILLIANCE

SWITCH provides flat response when in the OFF position. Position 1 is a new position voiced like the early AC30 Treble amps, while position 2 is the original brilliance circuit, which acts as a dramatic bass cut. The EF86 Mode switch re-configures the EF86 valve from Pentode mode to Triode mode. Triode mode will give a lower gain tone with higher headroom. Pentode mode is the famed original mode and has a very sweet high gain tone with not very much headroom.
Channel 2 is the Top Boost Preamp channel. Like Channel 1, this channel includes two inputs wired with a 6 dB gain difference between them. The Treble and Bass controls are from the 1963 Top Boost circuit and are extremely interactive. Very minor adjustments of these controls can yield dramatic changes in tone color. And true to VOX form is the Top Cut control, which cuts high from either channel end as it is turned up.
Flexible power The O/P Switch adds even more flexibility. This switch changes the power output valves from Pentode Mode, which is the normal operating mode of the power amplifier, to Triode Mode which halves the power output to 7.5 Watts and will alter the tone to be somewhat smoother.
The finishing touches Great care and research went into the cosmetics for these special amplifiers to meld vintage-correct attributes with some modern revisions. These touches include a vintage TV Front cabinet on the AC15H1TV, pre-1960 logo placement, and a vintage-inspired cream vinyl covering.

History in the making Why has the AC30 been an icon for decades? Its the amplifiers unique, warm tone, its harmonic chime, its player friendly response and feel, and its primeval circuit design. With its straightforward what you see is what you get control format, the AC30 was a hit with artists from the very beginning. Back then, VOX owned the 60s British Invasion and to this day the AC30 is widely used by guitarists performing in a huge range of musical styles. With a number of modern enhancements including blendable channels, a true bypass FX loop, spring reverb, and master volume to name just a few, the AC30 Custom Classic is an evolution of the original that is sure to become a classic in its own right.

Two blendable channels, a first Not only does the AC30 Custom Classic include two channels, it also offers the ability to blend those channels together. The Top Boost Channel serves up that classic AC30 tone, while our new expanded Normal Channel now offers two modes Normal and Bright which allow you to achieve the sounds of an assortment of vintage AC30s. Use the channels individually or blend them together for increased tonal flexibility to create a unique sound and feel thats all your own.
The AC15: when less is more First introduced in 1958, the AC15 15-Watt combo has been the amp of choice for countless guitar players throughout the world. Like its big brother the AC30 Custom Classic, this flexible, combo amp is equipped with a number of modern features like master volume, global reverb, and tremolo. The AC15CC1 offers an array of useful controls including fully variable tremolo Speed and Depth, foot-switchable tremolo and reverb with the included VF002 footswitch, Bass, Treble, Volume controls, and switchable impedance (8 or 16 Ohms).

The Custom Classic series is the culmination of over 45 years of high quality guitar amplifier design and fabrication. VOX has taken the best AC30 designs and added a number of useful features to create the most tonally flexible and affordable AC30 to date.
An evolution in tone When we set out to create the AC30 Custom Classic, we started from our most highly acclaimed model to date, the AC30 Hand Wired. With twin inputs (High and Low) and a Master Volume circuit, all of these amps offer highly interactive Bass and Treble tone controls, as well as the VOX Tone Cut control (which varies the presence in the power amp section) for even greater tonal variety. We also included Classic Tremolo with variable Depth control and a versatile spring reverb with Level and Tone controls, as well as a Dwell switch that varies the amount of drive going into the reverb for high or low gain sounds.
Control freaks rejoice! The AC30 Custom Classic is fully equipped with well thought out and easy-to-use controls. With a Custom/Normal EQ switch, Tone control, and Dwell switch for the spring reverb, Master Volume, fully variable Tremolo on all channels and a true bypass Effects Loop, weve thought of everything! Weve even included a switchable cathode resistor that lowers power output and increases tube life. Of course, the AC30 Custom Classic comes with our standard controls like Treble, Bass, Tone, Volume, Standby and more.
Presence boost, but, if you turn the control down, it will also introduce a high frequency cut filter that can be used to defuzz the preamp distortion, making it less aggressive and sweeter. Since the channels of the Classic Plus are totally independent, you do not need to compromise to achieve your desired tonal palette. Its almost like being able to mix and match two completely different amplifiers! Total, tonal control The Classic Plus range is packed with features and controls that meld the best of VOXs history with modern conveniences. The Classic Plus features a long spring, high-quality Spring Reverb with individual, foot-switchable level control for each channel, plus series FX looping with selectable level control and bypass switching. The Bypass slide switch will either engage the loop (switch ON) or disconnect the effects loop circuitry from the rest of the amplifier (switch OFF). With the Loop switch in the OFF position, the Send jack socket is still operational and can therefore be used to send the signal to another device such as a tuner or slave amplifier. The Loop Level switch allows the loop to be used at two different signal levels (approximately +4dBV (high) and -10dBV (low)). This will enable a wide range of devices to be connected to the amplifier. Channel switching and on/off reverb control is managed with the supplied VF002 dual footswitch.
ground lift switching. To enable great sounding connection into PA or recording equipment, the DI also features a speaker emulating Low Pass Filter (LPF) network. This can be switched into or out of circuit as required.
Another great plus of the DI circuit is that it is post the power amplifiers phase inverter valve, and before the Output Master Volume control. No matter how loud or quiet your stage level is, you have totally independent control of the DI output level. You can even turn the Master Volume totally off and use the DI output for silent recording for those midnight sessions. Power trio The Classic Plus range is comprised of the 50-Watt AC50CPH head (4 x 12AX7/ECC83, 2 x EL34B), the 100-Watt AC100CPH head (4 x 12AX7/ECC83, 4 x EL34B), and the 50-Watt AC50CP2 combo (4 x 12AX7/ECC83, 2 x EL34B). The AC50CP2 comes loaded with two VOX original design 12" speakers voiced for maximum performance with the Classic Plus. Pair either of the heads with VOXs V412BN cabinet, and youve got an unbeatable tone machine. No matter how you play, theres a Classic Plus for you. And with their combination of unmatched tone, flexibility and ultra-cool looks, the Classic Plus range is at home on any size stage. Plug in and hear them roar!

Channel 2 picks up where Channel 1 leaves off, delivering everything from modern blues and classic rock tones all the way to high-gain classic metal sounds and fluid lead tones. While Channel 2s EQ controls are also of the interactive passive format, they are centered on different frequencies to enhance the higher gain capabilities of Channel 2. The Channel 2 Bright Switch brings in an extra capacitor (switch down) across the Gain control to boost the high-mid and upper frequencies and is particularly effective on lower gain settings. The Bright Switch is great for giving extra bite and clarity to muddy sounding humbuckers. The Fat Switch adds extra gain and focuses the mid range of the guitar and amp, which helps produce a singing tone when playing lead lines. The Presence Control circuit is another unique feature to the AC range. It combines the traditional active power amp feedback circuit with a passive circuit within Channel 2s preamp. Shortly after landing the gig with The Killers, Sablay started his own search for the perfect tour companion in a guitar amp. He admits the search was not the swiftest, but like many things, patience is a virtue. It got to the point where I was at the music store every day trying out different amp combinations, and eventually I got the VOX AC30CC2X Custom Classic. It was perfect, especially for the role Im playing in all of this. I think that Dave Keuning (guitar) even used some VOX amps for the recording of Sams Town. Ted continues, We use it for textural stuff, and sometimes Ill take over a melody line once he has already started it. I just really like it. Its great

Adjust the power amp output A power level control (not available on the AD15VT or AD15VT-XL) adjusts the output wattage of the power amp. This means that even when the master volume is turned up all the way to drive the Valve Reactor power amp, you can adjust the volume without losing the sense and feeling of drive thats unique to tube amps. You can get great cranked tube tone without waking up the neighbours!
Foot-switchable control With the optional VFS2 dual footswitch, you can switch between your two user programs (CH1, CH2) and to Effects Bypass. Or, you can have the footswitch activate the Manual mode instead of Effect Bypass. That gives you instant hands-free switching between three different sounds (the two user programs and the Manual settings). >>
Valve Reactor for tube amp sound and feel All AD amps feature VOXs patented Valve Reactor circuitry, a ground-breaking design found in every Valvetronix product. The Valve Reactor uses a 12AX7 vacuum tube in an exclusive power-amp circuit that reconfigures itself to match the characteristics of the amps being modeled. This means that each model not only has the sound, but the feel of the original amp being modeled.

There was no way I was going back to Canada with my tail between my legs, says Pat Travers regarding his move to London at the ripe age of 20 with hopes of fulfilling his dream. With a successful music career now spanning 30 years, a devoted fan base, and an extensive tour on the horizon, its safe to say that this guitar hero has fulfilled it.
Pat was born in Toronto, Canada in April of 1954. At around age 12, Pat began his musical journey and selftaught his way toward guitar greatness. Pats earliest bands were Red Hot and Merge, playing at clubs in the Quebec area. While performing with Merge, Pat caught the eyes and ears of 50s artist Ronnie Hawkins, who soon invited Pat to perform with him. After a year touring with Ronnie, Pat decided to focus on satisfying his true desire of becoming a star in his own band.
That decision found Pat moving to London. He remarks, When I went to England, I was going to start a new band. I had no intention of being the main singer, it just sort of happened. I never really found anyone I liked so I just ended up singing. Pat laid those vocals and his scorching guitar tracks down on a demo that would soon earn him a recording contract with Polydor Records. From there, the ball kept rolling, more albums were released, touring returned him to North America as well, and his acclaim as a blues-driven guitarist, lyricist, and overall musician grew. He adds, We were a trio initially, for the first three albums. Then I decided the stuff I was writing always had two guitar parts in it. I wanted to re-create that live, so we got Pat Thrall in the band and that made a big difference.
Pathfinder 10 The 1 x 6.5" Pathfinder 10s tone-filled 10 Watt output makes this amp perfect for home practice, backstage warm-up and recording. The Clean/Overdrive switch allows you to instantly change between clean and dirty sounds. With a press of this switch you can go from a crystal clear jangle to VOXs uniquely warm distortion; or from a slightly crunchy bluesy tone to a high-gain roar. With the Pathfinder 10s headphone/output jack, you can practice late at night without disturbing your neighbours, or use the headphone jack as a specially filtered Line Out that is great for recording without having to worry about perfect mic placement or expensive mics. The Pathfinder 10 also features controls for Gain, Treble, Bass and Volume plus a Clean/Overdrive switch.

Keep up with Pat Travers and his band at www.pattraversonline.com
One piece of equipment that Pat will surely be taking on his upcoming tour is his VOX Valvetronix ToneLab LE. With superb amp modeling, effects, and real tube-driven tones in a compact pedal unit, Pat knows his sound will be right, night after night. He says, I love all the effects that go through the loop the choruses, the delays. That really sounds like what my original rig was all about. I had a couple of stomp boxes and a wah pedal, I also had a limiter gate in there, too. Now theyre all gone because its in the ToneLab LE. Everything that took up an entire rack is in one small pedal. I have all the pre-amps I want, and all the other effects which are great too. Having used the predecessor ToneLab SE for years, Pat was not only expecting the killer VOX tones hed been used to, but was delighted to find newer sounds, functions, and improvements in design. He states, One thing thats cool about the new ToneLab is that it has five different output settings; three for amp-in, and two for line. The second one for line has a three band Master EQ section, perfect for adjusting to different PA situations or slightly different amps. Its great to be able to tweak the overall sound a little bit on any channel, without having to go in and update everything separately. Pats accompanying guitarist, Kirk McKim, also picked up a ToneLab LE and made it part of his rig. I use it one way but my other guitar player, Kirk, uses it completely different than I do. You just have to find what works for you.

Weve packed the incredible amp and effect modeling power of Valvetronix amplifiers into a portable, easy-to-use, awesome-sounding effects unit that sounds so real, youll think youre plugged into a collection of real amps! With a new smaller footprint and enhanced direct recording features, the ToneLab LE is not just a floor processor. Its equally suited to desktop home recording. Now one unit can do it all!
ToneLab LE: Loads of new features The 24-bit ToneLab LE includes a few improvements on its popular predecessor, the ToneLab SE. The first is a new five-mode line out voiced specially for various applications, from direct recording to live performance through a PA system. The Line 2 amp/line setting features an all new three band Master EQ section modeled after one of the most acclaimed live mixers ever manufactured. This allows you to EQ the sound of your ToneLab LE to suit any room or sound system. For greater flexibility in recording applications, weve added an S/P DIF output. The acoustic simulator now offers the choice between three popular acoustic guitar types plus a resonator. The new ToneLab LE wouldnt be complete without some new effects! A new metal distortion sound will satisfy your need for extreme gain. Two new delays, a slap delay and a two-tap delay with tap tempo, add to the ambient effect offerings in the LE. Finally, a new multi-tap chorus gives you independent chorus taps for each of the left, center and right outputs, producing stunning depth and spaciousness.
VOX Valve Reactor delivers true tube sound The power amp section on the ToneLab LE features our patented VOX Valve Reactor tube circuitry. This unique technology enables these units to provide the sound, feel and dynamic range that, until now, were only possible with a multitude of all-tube amplifiers.

The Valve Reactor circuit uses a 12AX7 dual triode vacuum tube, a virtual output transformer and a dummy speaker circuit that simulates the reactive load of a real speaker. It reconfigures itself so that its characteristics are the same as the amps its modeling (class A, class AB, negative feedback circuit, etc.). This means that all of the nuances of the original amp model including sound, feel, distortion and presence are reproduced. Sophisticated modeling technology Starting with VOXs own AC30, the 16 amp sounds range from rare vintage amps to high-end modern amps. From clean sounds to extreme high-gain distortion, these models cover a wide range of tonal possibilities. Cabinet modeling reproduces the acoustical characteristics of ten different cabinet shapes and speaker types. Superb operability, extreme flexibility You can assign the control switches to control parameters such as tap tempo, effect on/off, or rotary speed. The LCD screen that displays parameter names and detailed information is backlit for increased visibility. A valve icon shows the number and model of the power tubes used in the original amp thats being modeled. Convenient send/return jacks are provided, which allow you to connect external insertion effects such as distortion or overdrive. You can also switch the insert effect on/off at a touch of a foot switch. Editing software lets you save and edit sounds Dedicated editing software for ToneLab LE can be downloaded from www.voxamps.co.uk. This software displays all parameters, making editing even easier, and also lets you stockpile an unlimited number of your own sound programs and share them with your friends. Built-in tuner The Auto Chromatic Tuner has its own independent LED display for excellent visibility. The tuner also provides a mute function for silent tuning on stage. All the right ins and outs Perfect for home recording and live performance, ToneLab LE includes everything you need for killer guitar sound. Featuring an S/P DIF optical digital output and MIDI IN and OUT connectors, ToneLab LE offers you plenty of potential and numerous options to expand your system. You can use the effect insert jacks to connect an external effect processor or stompbox, and the headphone out is just what you need for late-night practicing.
