HDMI stands for High Definition Multimedia Interface and is an all-digital Interface. Therefore no lossy digital-analogue or analogue-digital is necessary. That way also videos in common resolution are played back without any loss of quality. Due to the ultra high data rate of up to 5 GBit per second the image does not suffer from interference in consequence of data transfer. HDMI is the only interface that supports all video and audio formats. Due to the high bandwidth only HDMI is appropriated to transfer HDTV resolution plus sound track. Because HDMI can transmit audio and video data only one cable is needed. HDMI is the interface of the future because it is the first and only all-digital interface which is supported by the established film studios. HDMI transmits and decodes the copy protection HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection). That way it can be controlled if and how many times a movie is copied.
