YAMAHA 02R96 DIGITAL AUDIO MIXER
The Fastrack VS hybrid editing system interfaces to the Yamaha 02R96 Digital Audio Mixer with a 6-pin DIN to 9-pin RS-422 serial control cable and Yamaha 02R96 audio mixer Serial protocol. Direct control of each individual fader and the learning of manual adjustments are possible.
START WITH A FRESH 'MEMORY' Since Fastrack directly controls the motorized faders on the 02R96 audio mixer, first ensure that there are no memories regarding their initial levels. Clear all settings and/or preferences by recalling Scene Memory 0. Use the Scene Memory increment/decrement buttons to select scene memory 0 "0 Initial Data." Press the Recall button, confirm with ENTER.

INTERCONNECT CABLE ADAPTER
An interconnect cable adapter can be constructed using a PS-2 mouse/keyboard plug and wire and a Serial RS-422 female connector. This adapter connects between the TO HOST/ Serial port on the Yamaha 02R96 and a serial (male-male) cable attached to the Fastrack serial breakout (or use a male connector if your cable is long enough to reach the Fastrack serial breakout). Since the numbering on PS-2 connectors varies or is frequently missing, please refer to the letter positions noted here for the PS-2 plug (the 9-pin conforms to standards). Both 9-pin connector and PS-2 plug are viewed from the "front."

Note: The jumper between the top two pins on the PS-2 plug is essential for status reporting from the 02R mixer to Fastrack so it can "learn" manual changes to fader levels.
MIXER CONNECTIONS
Connect an RS-422 (9 pin) serial control cable from a Fastrack VS "COM" or "P#" port to 9pin end of the above adapter. Connect the P/S2 (or mini-DIN) 6-pin adapter plug to the TO HOST / SERIAL port on the rear of the 02R96 console.

Yamaha 02R96 Upgrade Guide (for Windows)
This document explains how to upgrade the 02R96 system software using a Windows computer connected via USB.
Precautions (please be sure to read these precautions)
The user assumes full responsibility for the upgrade. Upgrading the 02R96 erases all user memories and resets all settings to their default values. Back up important data before upgrading. If you fail to follow these instructions properly, or turn off the 02R96 or disconnect the USB cable while the upgrade is in progress, the 02R96 may be damaged. This software is for upgrading the 02R96 system software from a Windows computer via USB. MIDI drivers other than the Yamaha USB-MIDI driver cannot be used. If the upgrade fails while the new system software is being transferred to the 02R96 due the power being turned off, the USB cable disconnected, etc., when the 02R96 is turned back on again it will startup in download mode, not normal mode. In this case you should reconnect the cable and perform the upgrade again. If the 02R96 does not work properly after upgrading, and youve tried upgrading several times, please contact your Yamaha dealer. This software and its documentation is copyright Yamaha Corporation. Reproducing or modifying all or part of this software or its documentation without permission is strictly prohibited. The screen shots in this guide are for use with this upgrade procedure only and may be different to the actual screen shots. Windows is a registered trademark of Microsoft Corporation. Checking the System Version
To check the version number of your 02R96s system software, use the DISPLAY ACCESS [UTILITY] button to locate the Battery Check page shown below. The version number is displayed at the bottom.
Included Files
The following les are included in this folder: 02R96UpgradeE.pdf (this guide) 02r96VerUp.exe (upgrade program) 02r96.bin (upgrade data)
Upgrading the System Software
Note: Before starting the upgrade program, quit all other programs. While the upgrade is in progress, do not start any other programs or switch between windows. Note: If your computer enters Sleep or Energy Save mode, data transfer to the 02R96 may stop, so disable these functions to prevent this from happening. Note: You must install the Yamaha USB-MIDI driver before upgrading. See the documentation included with the 02R96 for more information.
Connect the 02R96 to your PC by using a USB cable. Note: In the Windows Control Panel, double-click MIDI-USB Driver, and make sure that the Thru ON/OFF option is off. Note: Do not connect any USB devices other than the 02R96, USB mouse or USB keyboard.Connect the 02R96 directly to a USB port on your PC, not via a USB hub.
While holding down the 02R96s MACHINE CONTROL [REC] button, turn on the 02R96, and hold down the button until FLASH UPDATE appears on the display. Double-click 02r96VerUp.exe to start the upgrade program. Note: If an error message appears, check the USB cable and make sure the USB-MIDI driver is installed correctly, then start the program again. For more information on error messages, see page page 5.
Make sure the Output Port is set to YAMAHA USB OUT x-1 and the Input Port is set to YAMAHA USB IN x-1, as shown below.
Click Browse and select the 02r96.bin le in this folder. To start the upgrade, click Load. Note: The upgrade takes about 34 minutes. While the upgrade is in progress, do not turn off the 02R96 or disconnect the USB cable. If for some reason the upgrade fails (e.g., the power cord is disconnected), the 02R96 may not work properly. If the 02R96 does not respond when you try upgrading it again, contact your Yamaha dealer.
When the message Completed appears, and the 02R96 has rebooted itself successfully, the upgrade is complete and you can quit the upgrade program. Now you must initialize the 02R96.
While holding down the 02R96s SCENE MEMORY [STORE] button, turn on the 02R96. When the conrmation message appears, release the [STORE] button, select YES, and press [ENTER]. The display returns to normal when initialization is complete. Note: Do not turn off the 02R96 while initialization is in progress, and do not touch the faders, as they may not calibrate correctly.
Use the 02R96s DISPLAY ACCESS [UTILITY] button to select the Battery Check page, and check the system softwares version number. This completes the upgrade procedure.
