Yamaha DM1000 Version2 Upgrade Guide
This document explains how to upgrade the DM1000 Version2 firmware. Firmware Version2 (2.0 or later) should be installed on the DM1000 beforehand.
Precautions (please be sure to read these precautions)
The user assumes full responsibility for the upgrade. Back up important data before upgrading. If you fail to follow these instructions properly, or turn off the DM1000 or disconnect the USB cable while the upgrade is in progress, the DM1000 may be damaged. This software is for upgrading the DM1000 firmware from a computer via USB. MIDI drivers other than the Yamaha USB-MIDI driver cannot be used. If the upgrade fails while the new firmware is being transferred to the DM1000 due the power being turned off, the USB cable disconnected, etc., when the DM1000 is turned back on again it will startup in download mode, not normal mode. In this case you should reconnect the cable and perform the upgrade again. If the DM1000 does not work properly after upgrading, and youve tried upgrading several times, please contact your Yamaha dealer. This software and its documentation is copyright Yamaha Corporation. Reproducing or modifying all or part of this software or its documentation without permission is strictly prohibited. Upgrading the System Software
1. Start the computer and check to see if the following steps are complete. Installing the Yamaha USB-MIDI Driver in the computer Connecting the computer and the console using a USB cable Backing up the data in the user memories in the console
Note: Before starting the upgrade program, quit all other programs. While the upgrade is in progress, do not start any other programs or switch between windows. Note: If your computer enters Sleep or Energy Save mode, data transfer to the DM1000 may stop, so disable these functions to prevent this from happening. Note: Do not connect any USB devices other than the DM1000, USB mouse or USB keyboard. Connect the DM1000 directly to a USB port on your PC, not via a USB hub.
2. While pressing and holding down the [CLEAR] button in the monitor section on the DM1000, turn on the power to the console. Continue holding down the [CLEAR] button until FLASH UPDATE appears on the display. 3. Double-click DMUpgrade.exe (or DM1K_patchE for Mac OS) The installer window opens.
Click [Next]. The following I/O port setting window opens.
5. Make sure that YAMAHA USB IN 0-1 is selected for the Input port and that YAMAHA USB OUT 0-1 is selected for the output port, then click [Next]. A window indicating the installation progress opens, and the firmware is installed. The installation process takes a few minutes. If you are using Mac OS 9, select DM1000-1 for the Input port, and DM1000-1 for the output port. Note that the port names vary with the OMS setup files.
6. When the installation is complete, the following window opens and the DM1000 reboots itself in normal mode.
Error Message List
Errors in connection to the console Unable to connect to the console. Make sure that the power to the console is turned on and that the console and the computer are connected via the USB cable. If the console is in normal operation mode, press and hold down the [CLEAR] button and turn on the power to the console to place it in Flash Update mode. Make sure that the Flash Update in the console has been updated to V2.0. If you are using Mac OS 9, make sure the OMS setup is correct. If the error persists, turn off and on the power to the console and restart the installer. Installer cannot proceed because there is no access key, which is needed for installation. The access key is not written in the console. Install the version2 firmware using a DM1000V2K package beforehand. This application does not correspond to the console. This message appears when the installer is not compatible with the console, for example when you used a 02R96 installer to upgrade the DM1000. This version has already been installed. No need to install. To cancel installation, click [Do not install]. To install and overwrite the current software, click [Reinstall]. Cancel installation if there is no problem in operating the console.
Error Messages on the Console Protocol Error Vendor Error This message appears when the FLASH UPDATE is not V2.00 or later. Install the version2 firmware using a DM1000V2K package beforehand. Please grant authority The access key is not written in the console. Install the version2 firmware using a DM1000V2K package beforehand.

Yamaha DM1000/01V96 Upgrade Guide (for Windows)

Checking the System Version
To check the version number of your DM1000/01V96s system software, use the DISPLAY ACCESS [UTILITY] button to locate the Battery Check page shown below. The version number is displayed at the bottom.

Upgrading the System Software
Note: Before starting the upgrade program, quit all other programs. While the upgrade is in progress, do not start any other programs or switch between windows. Note: You must install the Yamaha USB-MIDI driver before upgrading. See the documentation included with the DM1000/01V96 for more information.
Connect the DM1000/01V96 to your PC by using a USB cable. Note: In the Windows Control Panel, double-click MIDI-USB Driver, and make sure that the Thru ON/OFF option is off. Note: Do not connect any USB devices other than the DM1000/01V96, USB mouse or USB keyboard.Connect the DM1000/01V96 directly to a USB port on your PC, not via a USB hub.
While holding down the DM1000/01V96s [CLEAR] button, turn on the DM1000/01V96, and hold down the button until FLASH UPDATE appears on the display. Double-click VerUp.exe to start the upgrade program. Note: If an error message appears, check the USB cable and make sure the USB-MIDI driver is installed correctly, then start the program again. For more information on error messages, see page page 4.
Make sure the Output Port is set to YAMAHA USB OUT x-1 and the Input Port is set to YAMAHA USB IN x-1, as shown below.
Click Browse and select dm1k.pgm or 01v96.pgm in this folder. To start the upgrade, click Load. Note: The upgrade takes about 56 minutes. While the upgrade is in progress, do not turn off the DM1000/01V96 or disconnect the USB cable. If for some reason the upgrade fails (e.g., the power cord is disconnected), the DM1000/01V96 may not work properly. If the DM1000/01V96 does not respond when you try upgrading it again, contact your Yamaha dealer.
When the message Completed appears, and the DM1000/01V96 has rebooted itself successfully, the upgrade is complete and you can quit the upgrade program. Now you must initialize the DM1000/01V96. While holding down the DM1000/01V96s SCENE MEMORY [STORE] button, turn on the DM1000/01V96. When the conrmation message appears, release the [STORE] button, select INITIALIZE, and press [ENTER]. The display returns to normal when initialization is complete. Use the DM1000/01V96s DISPLAY ACCESS [UTILITY] button to select the Battery Check page, and check the system softwares version number. This completes the upgrade procedure.
Error Messages
Note: If the same error message appears each time you try to upgrade, the DM1000/01V96 may need repairing, in which case you should contact your Yamaha dealer.
DM1000/01V96 Error Messages
Vendor Error Check Sum Error Model ID Error
Issue: These error messages indicate that the upgrade program is not working properly, or that another program is using the USB-MIDI driver. Solution: Quit all programs, make sure that the upgrade program is okay, then try upgrading again.
PC Error Messages
YAMAHA USB Driver not found!!
Issue: The USB-MIDI driver was not found during startup. Solution: Make sure the USB-MIDI driver is installed correctly, the USB cable is connected correctly, and the DM1000/01V96 is in download mode.
Not enough memory! try closing some applications
Issue: The PC does not have enough memory. Solution: Quit all programs except for the upgrade program, then try upgrading again.
File not found!!
Issue: The upgrade data le could not be found. Solution: Check the upgrade data le, then try upgrading again.
File read error!!
Issue: The upgrade data le could not be read. Solution: Check the data le, then try upgrading again.
File format error!!
Issue: The format of the upgrade data le is incorrect. Solution: Check the data le, then try upgrading again.
Device open failed!!
Issue: Connection to the USB-MIDI driver failed. Solution: Make sure the USB-MIDI driver is installed correctly, the USB cable is connected correctly, and the DM1000/01V96 is in download mode.
Uninstall failed!!
Issue: Software uninstallation failed. Solution: Check the USB cable, then try upgrading again.
Install failed!!
Issue: Software installation failed. Solution: Check the USB cable, then try upgrading again.
Verify error!!
Issue: The installed data has a problem. Solution: Check the USB cable, then try upgrading again.
