Jeans Team
Ding Dong While taking a stroll of the traditional kind through the picturesque BerlinWedding, Reimo and Franz couldn t help but notice a neon sign that read "Jeans Team". They adapted this title in order to pay tribute to the multidirectional city that is Berlin: built of ice, blacktop, jeans, and Kebab. Ever since then they ve been travelling their own legendary universe of hooligan breakdance, raunchy punk rock, and disturbing heart-throb, armed with a red Yamaha SHS-10 and an ancient Ibanez bass guitar. But theres more to it: they joined forces with Henning Watkinson and Gunther Kreis, a happenstance reminiscent to the discovery of the square. Consisiting of an equilibrium of four equal and equally innovative powers, the Jeans Team is able to do whatever they please without entangling themselves in a net of musical theory and Yngwiemalmsteenisms. Not one Jeans Team show resembles another. It might as well happen that three different shows within the same week each create an entirely different ambience. On Friday they may sound dreamy, on Sunday like Trio, and on Monday like Spaceman 3. They break down musical limitations and wallow happily in the flesh-pots. As founding members of the Galery Berlintokyo they released their first 7" Single "Henning RocknRoll" on the gallery owned label Spielkreis. Their first publication though was a video tape entitled Baby" wich was released in 1996 and had a running time of 45 minutes. The video was part of an exhibition entitled "Polariot". During the exhibition they sold fake beards made out of blue jeans as well as corduroy sideburns. An extra gimmick added to this little surprise package were Polaroid photos. These photos were taken at night in some of the homelier Berlin neighbourhoods. There are dozens of photos of Reimo on a mighty Paris-Dakkar style Motocross bike - the pose of a poseur, unsparingly rendered by the uncompromising eye of Franz s camera. At the opening of the exhibition, the Jeans Teamsters revealed themselves to their audience only via TV-screens. The pre-produced backing-video and the live act converged into an irksome melange that made perfectly clear what their shows are all about. Shortly after that they founded their label Nadel Eins and released the 7" Single "Hi Fans" and "Ein Atom" in 1998. Both songs are included on their debut album "Ding Dong" (released 16th of June 2000) , even though the versions here are thoroughly deviant.
This is what the Jeans Team is all about. Their evergrowing repertoire of songs develops according to their transformative and alterating versatility and, reciprocally, speeds them through space and time. "Keine Melodien", "Ranzi Beats", "My Life Is A Loveparade", for example, were written in 1999. And even though they are tracklisted next to songs like "Baby" and "Lied der Liebe" which are much older, "Ding Dong" still adds up to an internally homogenous entity. This entity tells stories of lovers, fandom, vibrating asphalt, our inner loveparade, maths, and countless atoms.

FEEDBACK
Muzik (Aug.2000): Jeans Team make what must be the German equivalent of Britpop. Mojo (Sept 2000): Berliners Jens Team mirror their citys cosmopolitan nature techno, electronica and post- punk synth pop. I-D (march 2001): Electronic German Jeans Team turn in an album brimming with crazed synth-techno beatage, akin to Depeche Mode and Kraftwerk schiz-ing out an acid. Immense The Times/Play (March 2001): Jeans Team call ist scratchrock, but describing it as brilliantly bizarre will do as well. Future Music (Spring 2001): The subtle electronic interjections sometimes reminiscent of OMD entwine themselves round hip hoppy beats, and the overall result is something you simply have to turn up loud.

Some of the unusual instruments youll see tonight: The Marimba Lumina is a programmable playing surface that is played with mallets and can be used for everything from tuned percussion and melodic sounds to full drum kits. The Sequentix P3 is a sequencer, a device that plays looped patterns of notes interactively with its player. It can create note patterns impossible for humans to play. The Monome is an array of lighted buttons that can be programmed to perform all sorts of control functions created by the user. The Yamaha SHS-10 was a toy from the early 1990s, designed to allow children to play keyboards while wearing them guitar-fashion. The artists of Different Skies rely on the sale of CDs for extra revenue, and would appreciate your stopping at the merchandise table to sample their wares. There are a variety of releases in a wide range of styles; of particular interest is the brand new Different Skies 2007 CD Back To The Cliff, on sale here for the first time. There will be only short breaks between some of the pieces in tonights program, and no breaks between others; please feel free to applaud at the end of any piece if youre so moved. Were happy to wait for you! As always, wed like to thank the people of Arcosanti for their support and encouragement during this week of hectic rehearsals and technical difficulties. Excerpt: A keytar is a relatively lightweight keyboard (with or without a built-in synthesizer) that is supported by a strap around the neck and shoulders, similar to the way a guitar is supported by a guitar strap. Keytars allow players a greater range of movement compared to conventional keyboards, which are placed on stands. The instrument has a musical keyboard for triggering musical notes and sounds. Controls for pitch bends, vibrato, portamento, and sustain are placed on the instruments neck." The term "keytar" is a portmanteau of the words "keyboard" and "guitar." Keytars may either contain their own synthesis engines, or simply be controllers, triggering notes on another MIDI capable synthesizer. Steve Masakowski has been incorrectly credited for many years as the inventor of the keytar, but in an interview with Peter Hartlaub of the San Francisco Chronicle on December 11, 2009, he only claimed to have invented an instrument called the Key-tar which was a string based instrument. The first commercially released keytar was the "Moog Liberation." Early users included Spyro Gyra keyboardist Tom Schuman and Devo . The earliest printed use of the word keytar was in 1980, when it appeared in an interview with Jeffrey Abbott by Tom Lounges of Illianabeat magazine (now Midwest BEAT Magazine). The keytar was made popular in the 1980s by glam metal bands, as well as synthpop and New Wave musicians. Changing trends in music diminished the keytars popularity during the '90s, continuing on until the late 2000s when a major revival was sparked by artists and groups such as The Black...More: http: //booksllc.net/?id=82522
