Cautions

Please read the following operating precautions before use: Use the AC adaptor designed specifically for the YST-M15/M20DSP only. Yamaha cannot be held responsible for damage caused by using other power supply adaptors. When disconnecting the AC adaptor from an AC receptacle, hold and pull the adaptor, not the power cord. If the YST-M15/M20DSPs are not going to be used for a while, disconnect the AC adaptor from the AC receptacle. Always disconnect the AC adaptor from the AC receptacle before making any connections. YST-M15/M20DSPs do not contain any user serviceable parts. Refer all servicing to your Yamaha dealer. Do not expose the YST-M15/M20DSPs to temperature extremes, direct sunlight, excessive dust, humidity, or vibration. Place the YST-M15/M20DSPs on a level, stable surface. Do not drop the YST-M15/M20DSPs, apply excessive force to their controls, or put heavy items on top of them. If the YST-M15/M20DSPs should require cleaning, use a soft cloth. If necessary, use a damp cloth. To protect the YST-M15/M20DSP speakers, avoid microphone feedback, continuous and excessive output from electronic musical instruments amplifiers signal distortion. If the YST-M15/M20DSPs are located close to fluorescent or neon type lights, a slight hum may be heard. In this case, relocate the YST-M15/M20DSPs away from the light. Although the YST-M15/M20DSP speakers are magnetically shielded, keep floppy disks and tapes away from them. The YST-M15/M20DSPs may cause picture distortion when placed close to a television or computer monitor. In this case, move them away a little.
CAUTION The apparatus is not disconnected from the AC power source as long as it is connected to the wall outlet, even if the apparatus itself is turned off.
CAUTION (FOR CANADA MODEL): TO PREVENT ELECTRIC SHOCK, MATCH WIDE BLADE OF PLUG TO WIDE SLOT AND FULLY INSERT.

Rear Panel (right cabinet)

1 ADJ.VOL. knob: Adjusts the level of the component connected to INPUT 1.
Use this adjustment if the sound from INPUT 1 is louder than INPUT 2. Normally, leave it set to the MAX position. When connecting two sources with different output levels, connect the source with the higher output level to INPUT 1.
2 INPUT 1 and 2: These are 3.5 mm jack connections for inputting signals to
the YST-M15/M20DSPs. Using these two inputs will mix two input signals. For example, you may connect your CD-ROM player and personal computer to these input terminals.
3 TO LEFT SPEAKER: This should be connected to the TO RIGHT SPEAKER
connection on the left-channel cabinet using the supplied RCA plug cable.

4 OUTPUT (ADJ. VOL.): This 3.5 mm stereo jack outputs the input signal after

the VOLUME control.

5 DC 14V: Connect the supplied AC adaptor to this connection.

Controls

Front Panel (right cabinet) (Refer to page 3)
7 POWER Switch and Indicator: Press to power on the YST-M15/M20DSPs;
the power indicate will light up. Press again to power off. Before powering on and off, turn down the VOLUME control.
8 VOLUME control: Use this control to set the volume level. Turn it clockwise
to increase the volume, and counterclockwise to reduce it.
9 TONE control: This control allows frequency boost and cut of up to 7 dB at 0
10 kHz. This tends to emphasize vocals, providing a warmer intimate sound. Turn it clockwise to boost, and counterclockwise to cut. DSP ON/OFF (YST-M20DSP only): Switch the DSP (Digital Surround Processor) ON and OFF. The ON position will increase the sound expansion (even in the headphones).
Digital noise may occur with some sources if you use DSP when the volume level is low, or when there is no signal. If this occurs, increase the volume or set DSP to OFF.

Cabinet Legs

The legs supplied with the YST-M15/M20DSPs should be stuck onto the bottom of each speaker cabinet as shown. As well as preventing the YST-M15/M20DSPs from slipping around, these legs also isolate the cabinet from the mounting surface.
- HEADPHONE: Use this jack to connect stereo headphones for monitoring.
No sound is output from the speakers or the OUTPUT (ADJ.VOL.) jack when headphones are connected.

Troubleshooting
If your speakers fail to operate normally, check the following table. It lists common operating errors and simple measures which you can take to correct the problem. If it cannot be corrected, or the symptom is not listed, disconnect the speakers AC adaptor and contact your authorized YAMAHA dealer or service center for help.
No sound comes from one, or both, of the speakers. No sound comes from the unit connected to the OUTPUT (ADJ.VOL.) jack on the rear panel.
The AC adaptor is not properly plugged in to the wall outlet. The POWER switch is turned OFF. Connections are faulty or incomplete. The volume is set to minimum.
Insert the AC adaptor firmly into the wall outlet. Turn ON the POWER switch (the indicator lights). Make the connections again, firmly, or use a different cable. Turn VOLUME control to the right to increase the volume. Turn the ADJ.VOL. knob to the right to increase the volume. Turn up the volume on the connected component. Disconnect the headphones.
The signal being input is too small. Headphones are connected. (No sound comes from the OUTPUT jack when headphones are connected.) Sound is distorted. Intermittent noise. Noise. The signal being input is too large. DSP is turned on when the volume level is low, or when there is no signal. (YST-M20DSP only) Connections are faulty or incomplete.
Turn down the volume on the connected component. Turn OFF the DSP, or turn VOLUME to the right to increase the volume. Make the connections again, firmly, or use a different cable. Connect the power cord to an UNSWITCHED AC OUTLET. Make sure to use the POWER switch on this unit to turn the power on and off. Set DSP ON/OFF to ON.
Noise is heard when the power is turned on.
The power cord of this unit is connected to another units SWITCHED AC OUTLET.
No sense of sonic expansion. (YST-M20DSP only)
DSP ON/OFF is turned OFF.
Even if the POWER switch is set to off, a small amount of sound may be heard from the headphones if the VOLUME control is set to MAX.
