Your New Washing Machine

Your new washing machine meets all modern requirements for effective treatment of laundry with low water, energy and detergent consumption. Even small loads are washed economically because the amount of water used is regulated automatically according to the load and type of fabric.
Automatic cooling of the wash water to 60C before draining, with the 95C programme. This reduces thermal shock to fabrics, helping to prevent creasing. The special wool programme with its new delicate wash system treats your woollens with extreme care. The anti-unbalance device ensures that the washing machine remains stable when spinning.
In the interest of the environment

Ecological hints

To save water and energy and help protect the environment, we recommend that you follow these hints: Normally soiled laundry may be washed without prewashing in order to save detergent, water and time (the environment is protected too!). The machine works more economically if it is fully loaded. With adequate pre-treatment, stains and limited soiling can be removed; the laundry can then be washed at a lower temperature. Measure out detergent according to the water hardness, the degree of soiling and the quantity of laundry being washed.

Materials marked with the symbol are recyclable. Check with your local Council or Environmental Health Office to see if there are facilities in your area for re-cycling this appliance. When the appliance is to be scrapped, cut off the power supply cable and make the door lock device unusable to prevent young children from being trapped inside. Help to keep your country tidy - use authorised disposal sites for your old appliance.
How do we help to protect the environment? We use recycled paper!

Important

Your machine is fitted with a balance control device, which ensures the machine is stable during the spin. If the wash load appears not to have been spun sufficiently at the end of the wash cycle, because it is not evenly distributed in the drum, the balance control device may have operated. It will therefore be necessary to redistribute the wash load manually and select a spin programme. For more detailed information see the section headed Something Not Working.

1 ON/OFF button

Press this button to switch the washing machine on. The display (8) will show three blinking dashes or a blinking zero. You will find more detailed explanations on pages 7-8 (see DISPLAY). Press the ON/OFF button again to switch the machine off.
IMPORTANT! By pressing the TEMPERATURE and SPIN SPEED buttons simultaneously, the acoustic signal is deactivated at the end of the cycle, when selecting the programmes and in case of an incorrect option selection. By pressing these 2 buttons again the acoustic signal is reactivated.

2 MAINS-ON light

This light is connected to the ON/OFF button. It lights up when you press the button, and goes out when you press it again.

5 SPIN SPEED button

Press this button repeatedly to change the spin speed, if you want your laundry to be spun at a speed different from the one proposed by the washing machine. The relevant light will light up. Maximum speeds are: for cotton: 1,600, 1,400 or 1,200 rpm depending on the model; for synthetic fabrics, wool and fabrics to be handwashed: 900 rpm; for delicate fabrics: 700 rpm. NIGHT WASH position : when you choose this option, the machine will not drain the water of the last rinse, so as not to wrinkle the laundry. As all spinning phases are suppressed, this washing cycle is very quiet and it can be useful at night or in times with a more economical power rate. On cotton and synthetic programmes the rinses will be performed with more water. At the end of the cycle, the light corresponding to the option NIGHT WASH is on and the START/PAUSE button light will flash, to indicate that the water must be drained. A static zero will appear on the display. To complete the cycle, choose one of the following options:

3 FABRICS button

Press this button repeatedly to select the programme on the basis of the type of laundry to be washed. The light relevant to the selected programme will light up. The washing machine will propose a temperature and automatically select the maximum spin value provided for the programme you have chosen. You can change these values by operating buttons 4 and 5. Hand wash When you select this programme, you obtain a particularly delicate washing, suitable for articles of clothing whose label indicates that they must be hand-washed.

4 TEMPERATURE button

Press this button repeatedly to increase or decrease the temperature, if you want your laundry to be washed at a temperature different from the one proposed by the washing machine. The relevant light will light up. Maximum temperatures are 95C for cotton, 60C for synthetic fabrics, 40C for delicate fabrics, wool and fabrics to be hand-washed (HAND WASH programme). 6
Draining and spin: - Press the START/PAUSE button. The machine will drain the water, then spin the laundry at the maximum speed provided for the selected programme. - Select spin speed by means of button 5, and press the START/PAUSE button. Drain only - Press the SKIP/RESET button once, so as to cause the DRAIN light to light up, then press the START/PAUSE button. If the water is not emptied out, the machine automatically empties itself after 18 hours. Important! If you accidentally press the SKIP/RESET button more than once, the display will show three blinking dashes. To cause the washing machine to drain the water, select any washing programme by means of the FABRICS button, then press SKIP/RESET three times in order to select the DRAIN position (only the DRAIN light will remain lit).

7 OPTIONS button

Press this button to select the following options: SUPER RINSE: this option can be selected with all programmes except the wool programme and hand wash. The machine performs 4 rinses instead of 3. This option is recommended for people who are allergic to detergents, and in areas where the water is very soft. AA 40: this option can be selected for cottons and synthetics lightly or normally soiled with a temperature of 40C or higher. If you select 40C together with option AA 40, the machine will prolong the time at 40C in the washing phase. On cotton programme this will allow an A class in energy efficiency and washing performance to be achieved. If you select 90C and press the AA 40 button, the washing temperature will be reduced from 95C to 60C. If you select 60C or 50C and press the AA 40 button, the washing temperature will be reduced to 40C. In both cases the washing time will be prolonged. The SUPER RINSE and the AA 40options can be selected together by means of the relevant button.

6 WASH CHOICE button

Press this button to select the following options: PREWASH: select this option if you wish your laundry to be prewashed before the main wash (not available for wool and hand-wash cycle). The prewash ends with a short spin at 650 rpm in programmes for cotton and synthetic fabrics, whereas in the programme for delicate fabrics the water is only drained. OUTDOOR SPORTS: select this option if you wish to perform a soak of about 30 minutes at 30C to your laundry. By pressing the DELAY START button the soak time can be prolonged up to 24 hours max. After this time the wash cycle will automatically start. This fonction is not available for wool and hand-wash cycle. The soak ends with a short spin at 650 rpm in programmes for cotton and synthetic fabrics, whereas in the programme for delicate fabrics the water is only drained. QUICK: select this option for laundry that is only slightly soiled (not for WOOL and HAND WASH programme). The washing time will be reduced according to the type of fabric and the selected temperature. The PREWASH, the OUTDOOR SPORTS and the QUICK options cannot be selected together.

8 Display

The following pieces of information are shown on the display: Three blinking dashes, when a programme is cancelled by means of the SKIP/RESET button. The three blinking dashes will also appear when you press the ON/OFF button to switch the machine on, if the previously selected cycle has been erased.
Duration of washing programme in hours and minutes, after you have selected a programme. While the programme is running (after you have pressed the START/PAUSE button), the displayed time value decreases by one unit every minute.
The washing machine has stopped with water in the tub, at the end of a programme with the NIGHT WASH option: this is indicated by a static zero. The washing machine has completed the programme: this is indicated by a blinking zero. At the same time, the door locked light goes out. The zero will reappear when you switch the washing machine on, unless the previous programme has been erased by means of the SKIP RESET button. Important! The first time you use the washing machine, when you switch it on, it may display a blinking zero and give an audible warning signal. This is due to the fact that the washing machine has performed a washing cycle during the manufacturers inspection tests, and this cycle has not been erased after its completion. Delay start, a time value indicated in hours and selected by means of the relevant button.

9 START/PAUSE button

This button has three functions: Start: after you have selected the desired programme and options, press this button to start the washing machine. The light above the button will stop flashing and remain lit. If you have selected a delay time by means of button 11, the countdown will begin and will be shown on the display. Pause: when you press this button again, the programme in progress is interrupted. The light above the button will start flashing. To restart the programme, press the button again. When you PAUSE the cycle, the DOOR LOCKED light goes out, and it becomes possible to open the door, provided the washing machine is not in the heating phase; the level of the water is not high; the drum is not turning. Important! You must set the washing machine to PAUSE before you make any change in the programme in progress. Draining of water and spinning after the completion of programmes with the NIGHT WASH option.
The delay time is displayed for 3 seconds, then the duration of the selected programme reappears. After you have pressed the START/PAUSE button, the countdown begins, and the delay time value decreases by one unit every hour. You can delay the start of the selected programme by up to 24 hours in one hour intervals. An incorrect option selection has been made: this is indicated by the message Err when a function incompatible with the current programme is selected.

If you wish the laundry to undergo an extra rinse, select the SUPER RINSE option. If your laundry is lightly or normally soiled and it is necessary to prolong the washing time, select the AA40 option. The relevant light illuminates.

10. Select the DELAY START
Before you start the programme, if you wish the starting to be delayed, press the DELAY START button repeatedly, or keep it pressed, to select the desired delay. The selected delay time value (up to 24 hours) will appear on the display for 3 seconds, then the duration of the programme will appear again. If the OUTDOOR SPORTS option has been choosen, the selected delay will correspond to the soak time. In this case the display will show after 3 seconds the entire programme duration (including the soak phase).

8. Select the desired options
If your laundry is very dirty, it may be advisable to select the PREWASH option. If you wish the laundry to undergo a soak, select the OUTDOOR SPORTS option. If your laundry is only slightly soiled, select the QUICK option.

11. Start the programme

Press the START/PAUSE button. The relevant light will stop flashing, the DOOR LOCKED light will light up, and only the light relevant to the phase that is in progress will remain lit. If you have chosen a delayed start, the washing machine will begin the countdown. The display will show the duration of the programme or the selected delay.
12. How to change a programme during its cycle
Before you make any change, you must pause the washing machine by pressing the START/PAUSE button. It is possible to change any phase before the programme carries it out. Changing the type of fabric or temperature is possible, obviously, only during the washing phase. When you make a change in these two parameters, the washing machine will resume the cycle from the beginning. If it is necessary to drain the water in order to change the programme in progress, proceed as follows: PAUSE the machine by pressing the START/PAUSE button; press the SKIP/RESET button repeatedly, until only the DRAIN light remains lit; press the START/PAUSE button again. When the water has been drained, the display shows a blinking zero. You may now select a new programme and press the START/PAUSE button to start it.
the level of the water is not high; the drum is not turning. If these requirements are met, when you pause the washing machine, the DOOR LOCKED light goes out and the door can be opened. Should it not be possible to open the door, and should it be absolutely necessary to do so, switch the machine off by pressing the ON/OFF button. After approximately 3 minutes, you can open the door. Pay attention to the level and temperature of the water in the washing machine! When you close the door and press the ON/OFF button again, the washing machine will resume the programme from the point where it had been interrupted.

Use the correct quantities of detergent. For wool, use gentle detergent only in small quantities. Bleach is very corrosive; it should be used with care and kept out of reach of children. Some stains such as fruit, wine, grass, rust etc. are difficult to remove and should be treated before washing with specific products, which can be found in most household shops. In some cases it may help to soak the stain before washing with a special presoak product or biological detergent. Only wool marked Pure New Wool - washable, preshrunk can be washed in the the wool programme; other types of wool should be washed in Hand Wash programme. If you have used the machine to wash, rinse or spin only non-colour fast garments, there may be dye left in the sump. To ensure any subsequent wash is not contaminated with the dye, select and carry out a rinse and spin programme, without any garments, to ensure that any dye is removed from the sump. Once you have finished using the machine, you are advised to unplug it and turn off the water tap.

JETSYSTEM wash

As the Jetsystem is flexible and adjusts water intake according to wash load size it is not possible to give you exact recommendations as to the amount of detergent that should be used for any one wash. Therefore we recommend that you use approximately 1/3 less than the detergent manufacturer recommends on the packet or bottle, making the appropriate allowances for soft or hard water, and light or heavy soilage of clothes. If you have judged the amount correctly you should expect to see a soft sudsy liquid during the wash. It is not necessary to have a head of lather on the water.

Which detergent?.

To ensure you obtain the best wash results from your appliance, it is important to use the right detergent in your everyday wash, and only detergents recommended for use in automatic machines. To maintain the appearance of your clothes and household textiles and to make them last longer you should use different types of detergent for different washes, whether for whites, colours or delicates.

And in which form?

Not only are there different types of detergent, but they are also available in different forms. Whether you chose a powder or liquid in traditional or compact form is your own personal choice.

TRADITIONAL POWDERS

Pour the powder directly into the dispenser drawer. Do not sprinkle powder onto clothes in the machine drum.

WHITES

We recommend the Ariel product range which is biological and designed to provide excellent cleaning and stain removal even at low temperatures.

TRADITIONAL LIQUIDS

Liquid can be placed in the main wash compartment of the detergent drawer marked with the symbol , start the machine immediately upon placing the detergent in the dispenser drawer. Alternatively the detergent is measured into the specially designed dosing device* which should be placed on top of the laundry, and at the back of the machine drum.

The coloured cotton programme at 60C is the reference programme for the data entered in the energy label, in compliance with EEC 92/75 standards. * This data is given purely as an indication: the consumption values may vary in relation to the quantity and type of laundry, the temperature of the water supply and the ambient temperature. The data refers to the highest temperature provided for each programme. *** Only for the model FJDR 1266 W 16
Before any maintenance or cleaning is carried out you must DISCONNECT the appliance from the electricity supply.

Descaling

The water we use normally contains lime. It is a good idea to periodically use a water softening powder in the machine. Do this separately from any laundry washing, and according to the softening powder manufacturer's instructions. This will help to prevent the formation of lime deposits.
Cleaning the drawer recess
Having removed the drawer, use a small brush to clean the recess, ensuring that all washing powder residue is removed from the upper and lower part of the recess. Replace the drawer and run the rinse programme without any clothes in the drum.

After each wash

Leave the door open for a while. This helps to prevent mould and stagnant smells forming inside the appliance. Keeping the door open after a wash will also help to preserve the door seal.

Maintenance Wash

With the use of low temperature washes it is possible to get a build up of residues inside the drum. We recommend that a maintenance wash be performed on a regular basis. To run a maintenance wash: The drum should be empty of laundry. Select the hottest cotton wash programme. Use a normal measure of detergent, must be a powder (such as Ariel Futur).

Cleaning the pump

The pump should be inspected if the machine does not empty and/or spin the machine makes an unusual noise during draining due to objects such as safety pins, coins etc. blocking the pump. Proceed as follows: Disconnect the appliance. If necessary wait until the water has cooled down. Open the pump door.

Something Not Working

Certain problems are due to lack of simple maintenance or oversights, which can be solved easily without calling out an engineer. Before contacting your local Service Force Centre, please carry out the checks listed below. IMPORTANT: if you call out an engineer to a fault listed below, or to repair a fault caused by incorrect use or installation, a charge will be made even if the appliance is under guarantee. During machine operation it is possible that one of the following alarm codes appears on the display: - E10 : problem with the water supply - E20 : problem with water draining - E40 : door open Once the problem has been eliminated, press the START/PAUSE button to restart the programme. If after all checks, the problem persists, contact your local Service Force Centre.

Symptom

The machine does not start

Possible causes

The door has not been closed. (E40) The plug is not properly inserted in the power socket. There is no supply at the socket. The main fuse or the fuse in the plug has blown. The START/PAUSE button has not been depressed. The DELAY START option has been selected. The water tap is closed. (E10) The filter in the inlet hose is blocked. (E10) The inlet hose may be squashed or kinked. (E10) The door has not been closed. (E40) The end of the drain hose is too low. The end of the drain hose is submerged in water. There is no vent in the end of the drain hose. The drain hose may be squashed or kinked. (E20) The NIGHT WASH option has been selected. The drain pump may be blocked. (E20) The drain hose extension, if fitted, is not correct. Follow the instructions for connecting to the waste. The drainage system pipes are blocked. The wash load is unbalanced: redistribute the clothes inside the drum to allow the machine to spin. Too much detergent or unsuitable detergent has been used (creates too much foam). Check whether there are any leaks from the inlet hose fittings. It is not always easy to see this as the water runs down the hose; check to see if it is damp. The drain hose may be damaged or not securely positioned. The detergent dispenser drawer or recess is clogged. The drainage system pipes are blocked. Too little detergent or unsuitable detergent has been used. An insufficient amount of detergent leaves the laundry looking grey and causes lime scale to form. Stubborn stains have not been treated prior to washing The correct wash programme/temperature has not been selected. Too much laundry has been placed in the drum. 19
The machine does not fill
The machine fills then empties immediately The machine does not empty and/or does not spin
There is water on the floor

Special conditions

If the floor is carpeted or covered with crumbly or soft material, insert a rigid support base under the feet to prevent noise, vibration or displacement. The base should protrude a few centimetres beyond the edges of the machine. Warning The machine should NOT be placed on deep pile carpeting.
Before connecting up the machine to new pipework or to pipework that has not been used for some time, run off a reasonable amount of water to flush out any debris that may have collected in the pipes.
Note Please ensure that when the appliance is installed it is easily accessible for the engineer in the event of a breakdown.

Levelling

Level the washing machine by raising or lowering the feet. The feet may be tight to adjust as they incorporate a self locking nut, but the machine MUST be level and stable (check diagonally).
Washing machines and dishwashers should be connected to the FOUL drainage system, the water will then be taken to a sewage works for treatment before being discharged safely into a river. It is essential that these appliances are not connected to the surface water drainage system as this water is discharged directly into a river or stream and may cause pollution.
