Ecological hints
To save water and energy and help protect the environment, we recommend that you follow these hints: s Adjust the quantity of detergent according to the hardness of your water supply, the amount of laundry and the degree of soiling. s Select an economy programme for normally soiled laundry and a quick programme for lightly soiled laundry. s A programme without prewash is sufficient for normally soiled laundry.
In the interest of the environment
Important
Your machine is fitted with a balance control device, which ensures the machine is stable during the spin. If the wash load appears not to have been spun sufficiently at the end of the wash cycle, because it is not evenly distributed in the drum, the balance control device may have operated. It will therefore be necessary to redistribute the wash load manually and select a spin programme. For more detailed information see the section headed "Something Not Working".
Materials marked with the symbol are recyclable. Check with your local Council or Environmental Health Office to see if there are facilities in your area for re-cycling this appliance. When the appliance is to be scrapped, cut off the power supply cable and make the door closing device unusable to prevent young children from being trapped inside. Help to keep your country tidy - use authorised disposal sites for your old appliance.
How do we help to protect the environment? We use recycled paper!

1 Memory buttons and corresponding pilot lights
A wash programme can be stored and recalled by pressing these buttons. To store: select the required programme using the various buttons available (see section Operating sequence), then start the machine by pressing the START/PAUSE button. Only then can the programme be stored by pressing one of the Memory buttons until the corresponding pilot light comes on. If the Memory button pressed does not yet have a programme stored, the pilot light flashes for two seconds. A stored programme can be modified by pressing the required buttons before starting the machine with the START/PAUSE button. To recall a programme: press the required Memory button; the pilot lights corresponding to the stored programme come on. Press the START/PAUSE button to start the machine. Warning! A programme may have been stored during testing in the factory. Note: It is advisable to make a note of the programme stored for each Memory button.
2 ON/OFF-Cancel button
This button has two functions: - switch the machine on/off - cancel a programme which is running Press the button to switch the machine on, press it again to switch the machine off or to cancel a programme which is running.
3 Fabrics button
Press this button to select the type of wash required: White cotton, Synthetic, etc. The pilot light corresponding to the type of wash selected comes on and the washing time flashes on the display (9); times are calculated on the basis of a maximum load of 5 kg (for FL15) or 4.5 kg (for FL12) for cotton, 2 kg for delicate and synthetic and 1 kg for wool. After about 20 minutes (the time it takes the machine to calculate the weight of the laundry) the washing time is updated (cotton programmes only). The machine automatically selects the maximum temperature and spin speed based on the type of wash selected: the corresponding pilot lights come on. These values can be decreased by pressing the TEMPERATURE and SPIN SPEED buttons. The Fabrics button cannot be used when the FRESHEN UP programme or one of the SPECIAL PROGRAMMES are selected.
4 TEMPERATURE button
Press this button if you wish to set a different temperature from that suggested by the machine for the type of wash selected (see programme chart): the corresponding pilot light comes on. The COLD position is for a wash with cold water.
6 OPTIONS button
This button can be used to select the following options: - PREWASH: the machine performs a prewash cycle at 40C max. and the wash cycle is extended by about 10 minutes. The prewash cycle ends with a short spin for the White cotton, Coloured cotton and Synthetic programmes, and with emptying of the water only for the Delicate programme. - QUICK WASH: by selecting this option the washing time is reduced. For use when washing lightly soiled laundry. If you use this option with the wool programme you will obtain an extremely delicate wash action suitable for garments with the wash symbol. - ECONOMY: This option is only available with the following programmes. The temperature is reduced as shown. Programme Temperature reduced to White Cotton 95C 67C Coloured Cotton 60C 45C Synthetic 60C 40C The corresponding temperature light will come on and the wash time will be slightly longer to compensate for the temperature reduction. For use when washing normally soiled laundry, in order to save energy. Important: the PREWASH, QUICK WASH and ECONOMY options cannot be selected together: one automatically disables the others.
5 SPIN SPEED button
Press this button to select the required spin speed, remembering that: - for cottons (White cotton, Coloured cotton) the maximum spin speed is 1500 rpm for FL 15 and 1200 rpm for FL 12; - for synthetics and wool (Synthetic, Wool) the maximum spin speed is 1000 rpm for FL 15 and 900 rpm for FL 12; - for delicate fabrics (Delicate) the maximum spin speed is 700 rpm. When the RINSE HOLD option is selected, the last rinse water is not drained to prevent creasing of the fabrics: the pilot light flashes at the end of the programme to indicate that the water must be emptied out. This can be done in three ways: - select a spin speed and press the START/PAUSE button - just press the START/PAUSE button; after emptying, the machine performs the spin cycle for the type of wash selected - select the DRAIN programme to empty out the water without spinning. The RINSE HOLD option can also be selected for the wool programme: the last rinse water is drained but the machine does not spin. The machine automatically drains after 18 hours, if a drain or spin option is not selected.
7 Special Programmes button
Pressing this button selects the following options: - EXTRA RINSE: can be selected with all programmes except the wool programme. The machine carries out 4 rinses instead of 3. This option is recommended for people who are sensitive to detergents and in areas where the water is very soft. This option can only be selected after having pressed the FABRICS button to select the required wash programme. - SOAK: select this option for heavily soiled laundry. This function cannot be used with the wool programme. The machine performs a soak at 40C (the drum rotates occasionally) and stops with the water in the drum. The water can be emptied out in 2 ways: - empty only by pressing the START/PAUSE button; - empty and spin selecting a SPIN SPEED and pressing the START/PAUSE button. The machine automatically drains after 18 hours, if a drain or spin option has not been selected. At the end of the soak, and after having emptied out the water (the three zeros on the display flash), select the required wash programme (the machine must be first switched off and then on) or call one up using the memory buttons, then start the machine by pressing the START/PAUSE button. - RINSES: with this option, it is possible to rinse and spin garments which have been washed by hand, such as synthetics or delicates and types of wool which are not machine washable. The machine performs 3 delicate rinses with a high water level, followed by a final spin at 700 rpm. It is of course also possible to select a slower or a higher spin speed using the SPIN SPEED button. Important: if you wash cotton fabrics by hand and select max. spin speed, the machine will perform 3 rinses with a low water level, a number of intermediate spins and a final spin at maximum, particularly recommended for cottons. - SPIN: when this option is selected, the machine performs a spin at 700 rpm. Different spin speeds can be selected by pressing the SPIN SPEED button, but always take into account the type of fabric washed. - DRAIN: this programme can be selected to empty out the water (e.g. for programmes with which the RINSE HOLD option has been selected).
8 FRESHEN UP button
This is a complete programme in its own right, that is not compatible with any of the other options, except DELAY START. For use with laundry which is lightly soiled or which needs freshening up (max. 2 kg). The machine performs a 30 minute wash cycle at 30C, with a final spin at 650 rpm.
9 TIME TO FINISH display
This display provides the following information: - three flashing dashes appear immediately after pressing the ON/OFF button and indicate that the machine is ready to receive instructions for the required wash programme; - Duration of the selected wash programme, calculated automatically on the basis of the maximum recommended load for each type of fabric. The figures on the display flash until the machine is started with the START button. After the programme has started, the time remaining is updated every 10 minutes, and every 5 minutes during the last 20 minutes. About 20 minutes after the programme has started, the time remaining is updated on the basis of the actual load size being washed (cottons only). When the programme has finished, after the door lock has released, three flashing zeros are displayed. - Delayed start, programmed using the DELAY START button (11). The selected delay (19 hours max.) is indicated in the display. The countdown is updated every hour, and every 5 minutes during the last hour. - PAUSE: when the START/PAUSE is pressed while a wash programme is running, the figures in the display, which indicate the time remaining, start to flash. - Machine heating phase. A dot to the right of the figures in the display indicates that the machine is heating the water. - Incorrect option selection. If an option which is not compatible with the set wash programme is selected, the message Err is displayed.
10 START/PAUSE button
This button has three functions: a) Start After having selected the required wash programme, press this button to start the machine; the display stops flashing. b) Pause To interrupt a programme which is running, press the START/PAUSE button: the figures displayed will start to flash. To restart the programme from the point at which it was interrupted, press the START/PAUSE button again. c) Drain At the end of a programme which stops with water in the drum (RINSE HOLD option), or after the soak programme, press the START/PAUSE button to empty out the water: after a soak programme, the machine will empty only; after RINSE HOLD programmes, the machine will empty and spin.
12 Operating pilot lights
The pilot lights come on individually, or in groups, according to the options selected. The pilot lights flash for about three seconds if wash options are incorrectly selected. The message Err is displayed.
Altering a programme which is running
To alter a programme, press the START/PAUSE button. Before the machine starts the heating phase, i.e. within the first 15 minutes for cotton programmes, 10 minutes for synthetic and delicate programmes and 5 minutes for the wool programme, the following parameters can be altered: - Fabrics - Temperature - ECONOMY or QUICK WASH. The PREWASH option can be cancelled, but cannot be added, once the programme has started. The SPIN option can be modified before the final spin and the EXTRA RINSE option can be cancelled or added before the rinse cycle starts. To restart the wash programme, press the START/PAUSE button again.
3. Add the fabric softener, if required
If required, pour fabric softener into the compartment marked (the amount used must not exceed the MAX mark in the drawer). Push the detergent drawer back in.
4. Switch the machine on

If the RINSE HOLD option has been selected, the corresponding pilot light flashes to indicate that the water must be emptied out before opening the door. The machine is fitted with a safety device that prevents opening of the door for about 2-3 minutes after the end of the programme. The door can only be opened after the door locked indicator light has gone out. Release of the lock is indicated by an audible signal as well as the pilot light going out. Switch the machine off by pressing the ON/OFF button. Remove the laundry from the drum and carefully check that the drum is empty to avoid any forgotten items being damaged in a subsequent wash e.g. shrinking or colour running. If you do not intend to carry out another wash, close the water tap. Leave the door open to prevent the formation of mildew and unpleasant smells.
LAUNDRY BLEACH
For additional stain removal you may wish to use a product such as Ace Gentle Bleach which is used in addition to your chosen detergent. Ace is suitable for all washable fabrics including silks, woollens and coloureds.
Wash Care Symbols
Wash care labels inside garments recommend how to launder your clothes with the best results. The care labelling code is in line with care labelling used in the rest of Europe. The symbols used make it easy to select the correct programme on your washing machine.

Important Notes
For best results, always use the dispenser drawer for dispensing detergents and liquid additives. Once the dispenser has been filled, close it by pushing it in gently. This is particularly important if you are using 15 fabric conditioner to avoid the conditioner entering the machine prematurely. When using liquid detergent and a prewash programme, place the detergent into the correct compartment in the dispenser drawer, after the prewash has finished.

Maintenance and Cleaning
Before any maintenance or cleaning is carried out you must DISCONNECT the appliance from the electricity supply.
Descaling
The water we normally use contains lime. It is a good idea to periodically use a water softening powder in the machine. Do this separately from any laundry washing, and according to the softening powder manufacturer's instructions. This will help to prevent the formation of lime deposits.
After each wash
Leave the door open for a while. This helps to prevent mould and stagnant smells forming inside the appliance. Keeping the door open after a wash will also help to preserve the door seal.
External cleaning
Clean the exterior cabinet of the appliance with soap and water only, and then dry thoroughly.
Cleaning the dispenser drawer
From time to time the washing powder and additive dispenser drawer should be cleaned. Remove the drawer by pressing the catch downwards and by pulling it out. Flush it out under a tap, to remove any traces of accumulated powder.
Cleaning the drawer recess
Having removed the drawer, use a small brush to clean the recess, ensuring that all washing powder residue is removed from the upper and lower part of the recess. Replace the drawer and run the rinse programme for a few minutes without any clothes in the drum.
Cleaning the filter
The water drain filter
A clean filter is important for the correct functioning of the machine, and should therefore be cleaned after every washing programme. Open the filter door and place a container underneath to catch any spillage. If the filter is blocked and the machine is unable to drain you will need to drain the water manually from the machine at this stage. To do this, unhook the drain hose from the standpipe or sink and hold the end of the hose over a bowl on the floor. The water should drain by gravity into the bowl. When the bowl is full, hook the hose back up and empty the bowl. Repeat the procedure until water stops flowing out. Unscrew and remove the filter. Clean carefully under a fast running tap.
Warning
When the appliance is in use and depending on the programme selected there can be hot water in the filter. Never remove the filter during a wash cycle, always wait until the appliance has finished the cycle, and is empty. When replacing the filter, ensure it is securely retightened so as to stop leaks and young children being able to remove it.
The water inlet filter
If your water is very hard or contains traces of lime deposit, the water inlet filter may become clogged. It is therefore a good idea to clean it from time to time. Turn off the water tap. Unscrew the water inlet hose. Remove and clean the filter using a hard bristle brush. Replace the filter and tighten up the inlet hose.

Unpacking
All transit bolts and packing must be removed before using the appliance. Before starting the machine up, the packing must be removed as follows. You are advised to keep all the packaging for re-use in case the machine is to be transported again. Using a spanner unscrew and remove the rear right bolt. Lay the machine gently on its back, making sure that the hoses are not squashed.
Remove the polystyrene block from the bottom of the machine. Carefully slide out the right polythene bag (1). Repeat the operation for the left polythene bag (2).
Remove the polystyrene base. Set the machine upright and remove the two remaining bolts from the back. Pull out the three plastic spacers from the holes into which the bolts were fitted. Plug the open holes with the plugs which you can find at the back of the appliance.
Positioning
Install the machine on a flat hard floor. Make sure that air circulation around the machine is not impeded by carpets, rugs etc. Check that the machine does not touch the wall or other kitchen units. Never place cardboard, wood or similar materials under the machine to compensate for any unevenness in the floor. Your new machine has been designed to be permanently plumbed in to your homes water supply and drainage system. However, if this is not possible, it may be connected to a suitable existing tap with the drain hose discharging into a sink.
Water inlet
Before connecting the hose be sure to fit the mesh filter A supplied as per diagram. Installation should comply with local water authority and building regulations requirements. Set the hose correctly by loosening the ring nut. After positioning the inlet hose, be sure to tighten the ring nut again to prevent leaks.
Water drainage
This appliance is designed to be permanently plumbed into your home's water supply and drainage system. The appliance drain hose should hook into a standpipe, the hook in the drain hose is formed using the plastic U-Piece supplied. The standpipe should have an internal diameter of approximately 38mm (see diagram) thus ensuring there is an air break between the drain hose and standpipe. When discharging into a standpipe ensure that the top of the curve in the hose end is no more than 90cm (35.4'') and no less than 60cm (23.6'') above floor level. The upright standpipe should have a minimum length of 30cm (12'') from the bottom of the elbow to the top of the pipe (see diagram). Make sure that it is designed in such a way, that the end of the drain hose cannot be covered with water. The drain hose may be extended to a maximum of 4 metres. An additional drain hose and joining piece is available from your local Service Force Centre. The joining piece must have an internal diameter of 18mm. If you intend the drain hose to empty into a sink, make sure that the sink is empty and the plug hole is not blocked. Use the plastic U-Piece supplied.
Max. 90 cm.(35.4")
Min. 30 cm.(12")
mm.(1/2") diameter standpipe
Min.60 cm. (23.6")
Before connecting up the machine to new pipework or to pipework that has not been used for some time, run off a reasonable amount of water to flush out any debris that may have collected in the pipes.
Levelling
Level the washing machine by raising or lowering the feet. The feet may be tight to adjust as they incorporate a self locking nut, but the machine MUST be level. Any necessary adjustment can be made with a spanner. Accurate levelling prevents vibration, noise and displacement of the machine during operation. Some vibration is inevitable, especially if mounted on a wooden floor. Sprung wooden floors are particularly susceptible to vibration. For advice, consult a builder. If possible, always place the machine on a solid floor.
Special conditions
If the floor is carpeted with a deep-pile carpet or covered with crumbly or soft material, insert a rigid support base under the feet to prevent noise, vibration or displacement. The base should protrude a few centimetres beyond the edges of the machine. Warning The machine should NOT be placed on deep pile carpeting. Note Please ensure that when the appliance is installed it is easily accessible for the engineer in the event of a breakdown.
Washing machines and dishwashers should be connected to the FOUL drainage system, the water will then be taken to a sewage works for treatment before being discharged safely into a river. It is essential that these appliances are not connected to the surface water drainage system as this water is discharged directly into a river or stream and may cause pollution. If you require any further advice please contact your local authority drainage department.
