Brave Kyles dream holiday
A BRAVE Annalong boy with a rare kidney disease is enjoying the holiday of a lifetime this week, thanks to the Dreamflight charity.
Kyle Magee was one of 192 children from across the United Kingdom who left London, bound for Florida, on Sunday morning. Kyle flew from the George Best Airport in Belfast to London the day before. Although he was feeling unwell on Saturday, he was determined not to miss out on his dream holiday. During their action-packed 10-day break the children will visit Walt Disneys Magic Kingdom and the Islands of Adventure theme park. Trips to movie studios such as Universal, Disney and MGM will enable the children to immerse themselves in their favourite films and to meet their favourite characters. Another highlight of the holiday is a visit to Discovery Cove, where they will have the opportunity to experience the once-in-a-lifetime thrill of swimming with dolphins. Before they flew out from London, Dreamflight had organised a big party for the children, where they met celebrities such as Bianca from EastEnders, Denzil from Only Fools and Horses and four actors from ITVs The Bill. Kyle, a pupil at St Marys PS, Glasdrumman, suffers from Juvenile Nephronophthisis, which causes chronic kidney failure. His mother Paula told the Mourne Observer 11-year-old Kyle was one of only three people in Northern Ireland to have this condition. He has renal bone disease and renal anaemia. He also has X-linked agammaglobulinaemia (XLA) which is a rare immune deficiency that affects only boys. (To page 13)
