ZyXEL PoE switch models or other 802.3af PoE devices can supply power and transmit data to the AP directly through the Cat-5 Ethernet cable. The new range of wireless N APs all support PoE. New PoE Switch Portfolio for Businesses
Market trends show that global shipments of Power over Ethernet (PoE) switch devices are outperforming sales of traditional switches. This is hardly surprising, as small and medium-sized businesses (SMB) looking to deploy seamless connectivity and mobility with wireless are investing in VoIP technologies and handsets for voice and are securing their business premises with IP surveillance technologies.

Trouble-free Installation Power over Ethernet (PoE) is a standards-based technology complying to IEEE 802.3af providing up to 15.4W per device, or IEEE802.3at, providing up to 30W per device. As a technology, PoE enables users to place devices such as wireless LAN access points (AP), IP surveillance cameras or IP phones exactly where they want them. The devices are provided with power directly through the Ethernet cable, so there is no need to have a separate power supply or to have costly electrical engineers putting AC power sockets in ceilings or roof spaces. Extension of ZyXELs Switch Range In addition to the existing PoE devices available, ZyXEL has developed a new range of unmanaged Ethernet PoE switches. ZyXELs ES1100 series of PoE switches is designed to offer small businesses a first introduction to PoE. With the new range of PoE injectors/extenders, the PoE-12HP and PoE-12HPO, ZyXEL offers SMB resellers the opportunity to deliver higher power at around 20W or to extend the range of the Ethernet cable outside of the building with the PoE-12HPO. Both solutions are designed to support the increased power demands of the latest generation of wireless N APs and pan, tilt or zoom functions of IP surveillance cameras. Plug and Play Ease of Use The PoE-12HP and PoE-12HPO are easy to use and do not need any configuration. Firmware Enhancements for Top-selling Access Point
With the new firmware release, ZyXEL improves the security and usability of its topselling WAP3205 Wireless Access Point for the three most used operating modes: access point (AP), client and universal repeater (UR). Enhanced security settings, an easier configuration and a new GUI allow users to fully benefit from the outstanding functionality the device has in store.

New User-friendly Security Settings The WAP3205 can be set to AP, client, bridge, WDS repeater or UR mode to easily extend the wireless network coverage. Using the classical AP mode, the WAP3205 can establish a wireless connection to any Ethernet device. The new firmware now provides enhanced security settings: For a more convenient first access, the WAP3205 comes by default without preconfigured wireless security settings. After choosing AP mode, the default security mode will automatically change to WAP2PSK, asking the user to enter a new wireless password. If the security setting is changed back to no security, a warning message will pop up to avoid the risk of unsecured traffic. Integrating Household Devices The WAP3205 can also be used as a client in order to integrate wired devices like TVs, set-top boxes or game consoles into any Ethernet network. After setting the WAP3205 to client mode, users will see an overview of all available wireless SSIDs and can easily choose one of the listed IDs. Convenient Configuration With the built-in UR mode, the WAP3205 can work as a wireless client and simultaneously perform as an AP. ZyXEL PoE-12 is a single-port Power over Ethernet (PoE) Injector that infuses and transmits electricity through unused pairs (4/5 and 7/8) in CAT-5 Ethernet cables, while data flows are carried by the other pairs (1/2 and 3/6). As such both power and data can be delivered to PoE devices (PD) via a single CAT-5 Ethernet cable without extra power supply. With the PoE-12, non-PoE switches can now power IEEE802.3af compliant PoE devices through an effective single CAT-5 Ethernet cable link up to 100m in length. In other words, users can install any IEEE 802.3af compliant PoE devices like WLAN access points or IP surveillance cameras with more freedom. Unlike traditional solutions, the PoE-12 can now take advantage of the effortless connectivity in challenging places, such as ceiling or top of wall, without laying power cables. It means that the devices are now untied from power outlets for maximum flexibility. The PoE-12 is easy to use and needs no configuration. Since only simple inbound and outbound cable plugging is required, installation is straightforward and can be performed by users without power cabling expertise or expense.
