| "The sleek design of the the speakers blends in perfectly on my desk and does not take up much space. The subwoofer hides below out of site. "I purchased the Companion 5 in 2007 for twice the price as it states now. This is a great price for such a superb product. | |

| I bought this because of the easy set-up and good sound quality Bose is known for. Bose is also known for expensive prices of their products. I bought this speaker at my local mall and there pretty expensive. I paid $400 plus tax. The overall quality of these speaker are superior. This new series of Bose Companion speakers is a huge step up in design from the previous series. the Companion 5 system give a simulated 5. I am totally satisfied with this product. The Bose Companion 5 sound system delivers sound quality well beyond my high expectations for sound. | |

GETTING STARTED Before you begin
Thank you for choosing Bose Companion 2 Series II multimedia speaker system. Unique features and Bose technologies make these speakers a superior choice for upgrading your computer audio. They also provide rich, full stereo sound from a second source, like a portable MP3 or CD player. Benefits of your Companion 2 speakers: TrueSpace stereo signal processing circuitry adds spaciousness. Ported cabinet design provides clear, deep musical tones. Sleek design blends in with contemporary office dcor.
Unpacking the carton
Carefully unpack your speakers (Figure 1) and save all of the packing materials, which provide the safest means for shipping or transporting. If any part appears damaged, do not attempt to use it. SETTING UP Choosing a speaker location
The angled design of these speakers allows them to direct sound upward toward a seated listener. So placing them on a desktop is a good choice. Magnetic shielding protects your computer monitor from interference when the speakers are positioned close to it. Place the speaker that has a volume control knob on the front to the right of your computer and within easy reach. Place the other speaker on the left (Figure 2).
Note: LEFT and RIGHT labels on the back of the two speakers can serve
as a placement aid.
Figure 2 Speakers in position near the computer
LEFT speaker
RIGHT speaker Volume control
Headphone jack
You may prefer placing the RIGHT speaker on your left to more easily reach the volume control and the headphone jack. This does no harm, although it changes how you hear the left and right stereo sound. For an accurate sound stage, the music recorded from stage left during a live performance comes from the left speaker. Changing the placement of LEFT and RIGHT speakers alters that effect.
Making connections
A speaker cable is attached to the rear of the LEFT speaker. Insert the free end of this cable into the jack marked TO LEFT SPEAKER on the back of the RIGHT speaker (Figure 3).

Connecting to your computer
Use the audio cable to make this connection. Insert the stereo mini plug at one end of the cable into the mini audio out jack on your computer. Insert the two plugs at the other end of the cable into one pair of the AUDIO INPUT jacks on the right speaker. 1. 2.

Connecting the speakers to a power outlet
Use the supplied power pack, which has a cable that connects to the RIGHT speaker. 1. 2. Insert the cable plug into the connector labeled 12V on the back of the speaker (Figure 5). Plug the power pack into an AC (mains) outlet. If your system includes a power pack adapter, attach the adapter as shown (below left) before plugging in the power pack.

Note: Bose recommends using a high-quality surge suppressor on all
electronics equipment.
Connecting an optional second source
The Companion 2 speakers provide a second set of input connectors for use with a second sound source. To make this connection, use the audio output cable provided with your MP3 player, CD player, or other source.
Connecting headphones
Headphones plug into the connector on the front of the RIGHT speaker (Figure 6). Inserting the plug mutes sound from the speakers.

WARNING: Long-term exposure to loud music may cause hearing
damage. It is best to avoid extreme volume levels when using headphones, especially for extended periods.
Controlling the volume
You can raise or lower the volume of the speakers or a connected headphone by turning the knob on the front of the RIGHT speaker (Figure 7). Turn it right to raise and left to lower the volume.
Figure 7 Speaker volume knob RIGHT speaker
Volume control
On your computer or an optional sound source, set the volume at about two-thirds the maximum volume. Then use the knob on the RIGHT speaker to adjust the volume as you listen.
Troubleshooting
Problem No sound What you can do No sound from one speaker Make sure the sound source is plugged in and turned on, it is not on mute, and the volume is turned up. Make sure headphones are not plugged into the RIGHT speaker. Be sure the power pack is securely plugged into the RIGHT speaker and into the AC (mains) outlet. Make sure the speakers are connected properly and all plugrs are inserted firmly. Check the sound source. If it is mono (has one channel only), you need a mono-to-stereo adapter to send the sound to both speakers. To request an adapter, contact Bose Customer Service. Refer to the address sheet included in the carton. Decrease the volume of the sound source affected, and increase the volume on the speakers. When using any other wireless source (computer or cell phone) move the speakers farther from that source. Decrease the volume level on your speakers and increase the level on each sound source to your preferred volume.
Sound is distorted or you hear static
Background noise when no source is playing
REFERENCE Cleaning the speakers
Wipe the speakers using a soft, dry cloth. Do not use solvents, chemicals, or sprays. Lightly vacuum the grilles as needed.
CAUTION: Do not allow liquids to spill or objects to drop into any
