Canon MVX3i Delivers worlds finest images
Canon, leader in photographic and imaging technology, is pleased to announce the launch of its first 2.2 Megapixel CCD DV camcorder the stylish MVX3i. Superbly specified to appeal to advanced users, the MVX3i boasts an RGB primary colour filter and Canons DIGIC DV processor to recreate exceptionally high-quality, natural video and still images. A 10x optical zoom with Optical Image Stabilization builds on Canons heritage of precision optics.
The MVX3i incorporates a digital still camera with a six-blade iris and auto pop up flash for uncompromising, simultaneous photo/video shooting. It also boasts industry standard PictBridge compliance for direct connection and printing to any compatible printer, and high quality MPEG4 recording onto an SD card for easy transfer to a computer. The camcorder is equipped with high resolution 16:9 mode, IEEE1394 Firewire and USB connections, a 3.5 colour LCD screen, and manual audio level control. Furthermore, a host of features, such as super night mode, deliver outstanding image quality and flexibility in every shooting situation. The MVX3i is protected with the strongest outer casing of any 1CCD digital camcorder, and is finished with appealing, stylish contours. New levels in image quality The focus on image quality keeps the MVX3i true to Canons core strengths and values which have made generations of Canon cameras so popular. It produces ultra high-resolution video images with 1.7 effective Megapixels, as well as still images recorded at 2.0 effective Megapixels. Traditional camcorders use MYCG complimentary filters, which rely on signal conversion, introducing noise and degrading colour reproduction and resolution. The MVX3i uses a new, far superior RGB primary colour filter, which allows signal processing without conversion for eye-catching reproduction with no loss in image-quality. At the heart of the MVX3i is Canons purpose built Digital Image Core (DIGIC) DV processor. Unlike competitor products limited by the use of generic processors, Canons DIGIC DV is capable of handling complex image processing algorithms in real time. This allows different rendering processes for still and video images, resulting in stunning image quality for both. Rather than simply recording what the lens sees, DIGIC DV is used to recreate colours, tones and details that are perceived as far more pleasing and realistic by the human eye. Gorgeous tones Correct exposure of subjects while shooting video is assured with intelligent AE (Area Adaptive Exposure Control), which ignores sky and foreground readings. For natural looking results during playback at home DIGIC DV compensates for the automatic gamma correction built into modern television sets. Brilliant details - without harsh contrast Over-sampling, now possible with the 2.2 Megapixel CCD, eliminates the loss of resolution due to colour rendering that can affect image quality in lower-specified camcorders. Significant noise reduction has been achieved by introducing a weighted interpolation algorithm to the image-to-film resizing process. Additionally, Adaptive Sharpness Control smoothes out unpleasant contrast areas without blurring by scaling high contrast areas into each other. f1.6 10x zoom with Optical Image Stabilisation The f1.6 10x optical zoom lens on the MVX3i builds on Canons history of excellence in the field. It is one of the few camcorder lenses to boast Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) to physically reduce camera shake. This achieves far superior results than electronic stabilisation methods, which are ineffective in high-resolution 16:9 mode or in still photography. OIS has the added benefit of helping to conserve valuable processing resource. The integral aspherical element in the lens of the MVX3i provides sharpness of image not possible from conventional lenses. Digital stills without compromise The MVX3i boasts a highly specified digital still camera. Its six-blade iris is capable of recording 30 continuous shots per second in VGA mode, or 10 shots at three frames per second in SXGA and VXGA modes. An auto pop up flash can be used in various modes, including automatic and red eye reduction. Slow shutter speeds of up to second are possible for low light conditions and slow sync is possible for crisp night scenes. Automatic Exposure Bracketing enables three shots to be taken in rapid succession over a range of exposures. The MVX3i is also capable of simultaneously capturing still images to memory card, whilst recording video to tape. Keeping life simple To keep the whole process simple, the MVX3is eight recording modes are easily selectable using a convenient mode dial. These include Tv (shutter

priority), Av (aperture priority), night mode and super night mode, which uses a built-in LED video light. When fast transfer to a PC is required, high quality MPEG4 videos can be shot direct to the SD card, with the length of footage limited only by the card size. A 3.5 246,000 pixel colour LCD monitor can be set to show a zebra pattern in overexposed areas and an automatic back light function ensures correct subject exposure in difficult lighting conditions. A custom button can be set to activate one of a variety of commonly used functions, such as Optical Image Stabilization, zebra pattern, back light correction and drive mode. Powerful software DV Messenger 2.0, incorporated in the MVX3i, is two-way communication software combining the strength of Microsoft Windows Messenger and Canons own network solution. It provides two-way (peer-to-peer) communication whilst also enabling the exchange of audio and video data live or recorded over the Internet. The camcorders fixed network mode enables control over the camera via DV Messenger 2.0, enabling remote photo and video recording and viewing as well as video chat/streaming via both USB and IEEE1394 connections. Connectivity and accessories Canon is the only camcorder manufacturer certified for use on both Windows and Mac environments, with both IEEE1394 Firewire and USB connections supported. Optional accessories for the MVX3i include a wide converter, tele converter and filter set, adding to the camcorders unrivalled flexibility.
