The Slim Samsung i200 Smartphone Is Now Available

For 400 Euros

Samsung i200 (or SGH-i200) is now commercially available in Europe and Asia, being offered as one of the slimmest Windows Mobile smartphones on the market. Announced at the beginning of the year and said to come with Windows Mobile 6.0, the i200 is now bundled with the latest Windows Mobile 6.1 OS, which brings a revamped look and some improved features as compared to the 6.0 version. Weighing 102 grams and measuring 116.7 x 50.8 x 11.8 millimeters, the i200 is surely a thin device. Its features include: tri-band GSM connectivity (900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz) with GPRS and EDGE, 2100 MHz HSDPA connectivity for data transfer speeds of up to 3.6 Mbps, a 2.3 inch TFT non-touchscreen display with 262K colors and 240 x 320 pixels, Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR, a 2 Megapixel camera with face detection and video recording, a secondary VGA camera for video calls, Pocket Internet Explorer, Outlook email, Instant Messaging, mobile printing, document viewer and editor (World, Excel, PowerPoint), Music Player (MP3, WMA, AMR, AAC, AAC+, eAAC+ and OGG supported), MMS, voice dialing and USB 2.0. Samsung i200 comes with only 25MB of internal memory, which is not enough for a smartphone but, fortunately, there's also a microSD card slot, so users will be able to count on several GBs of storage if a card is added. The battery packed in the slim smarpthone is an 1100 mAh one that should allow the device to remain functional for up to 4 hours in talk-time mode and up to 360 hours in stand-by time. Samsung i200 is available in two colors (black and blue) for retail prices of around 400 Euros ($630). That's a bit expensive, but we should expect the handset to be much cheaper with a contract agreement, when released by various operators.

CeBIT 2008: Hands-On with Samsung i780 and Samsung i200
Windows Mobile smartphones
Samsung brought many mobile devices at the 2008 edition of CeBIT (Hanover, Germany, 4 - 9 March), including the G810 flagship and the stylish F490. Right now we're going to present you i780 and i200, two handsets that have in common the Windows Mobile OS. Samsung i780 is a business-orientated smartphone that runs on Windows Mobile 6.0 Professional and looks pretty nice, I even dare to say it looks far better than both Samsung's BlackJack and BlackJack II (since it has been compared with them when first announced). I780 has lots of cool features, including a 2.55 inch TFT touchscreen with 65K colors and a 320 x 320 pixels resolution, full QWERTY keyboard, tri-band GSM connectivity, 3G/HSDPA, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g, GPRS and EDGE. Furthermore, the phone offers built-in GPS, A-GPS support, Microsoft Office Mobile, finger mouse, Windows Media Player, Opera Mobile 8.65 browser, email and Instant Messaging, Bluetooth 2.0, USB, Callia Player and Callia Reader, SmartConverter and so on. There's also a 2 Megapixel camera with video recording and a secondary VGA camera for video calls. Measuring 115.9 x 61.3 x 12.9 mm and weighing 120 grams, Samsung i780 packs a standard Li-Ion battery that can (or it should, at least) provide up to 7 hours of talk-time and about 400 hours of stand-by time. The phone is available in Europe for a pretty high price, somewhere around 550 Euro ($840). No word yet about a future availability in North America. Samsung i200 is a smaller (than i780) smartphone that runs on Windows Mobile 6.0 Standard and has a stylish design. The handset measures 116.7 x 50.8 x 11.8 millimeters, it's 3G-enabled and comes with a 2.3 inch TFT display at a 240 x 320 pixels resolution, a 2 Megapixel camera, PocketIE browser, email capabilities, Instant Messaging, Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP, USB 2.0, Media player (MP3, WMA, AAC and MPEG4 support), voice command and voice memo, organizer, Java MIDP 2.0 and so on.
