---------------------------------------------------------------PM5000 Update Manual ---------------------------------------------------------------Copyright(C) 2003/2004 YAMAHA CORPORATION, All Rights Reserved. This manual describes the YAMAHA PM5000 firmware update procedure. Please read the manual carefully before performing the update.
Other Than The PM5000 You Will Need: ========================================== o The CD-ROM containing the update data. o 1 CF memory card (for both the update procedure and data backup). o A Windows computer equipped to read CD-ROMs and write to CF memory cards.
Update Precautions ====================== If the power is accidentally turned off or interrupted while the firmware is being rewritten it may become impossible to perform the update using a CF memory card. Make sure that the power is not interrupted during the update.
Update Procedure ====================== 1) Save your scene memory, setup memory, and program change table data to a CF memory card. It is important to back up the above data because all of the corresponding internal memory locations will be erased when the firmware update is performed. We recommend that you select the "ALL" type when doing the backup. Please refer to the PM5000 owner's manual for details. 2) Copy the update data from the CD-ROM to the CF memory card. Copy the entire folder ("PM5000") and its contents from the CD-ROM to the root
directory of the CF memory card. 3) Insert the CF memory card into the PM5000 memory card slot and then turn on the PM5000 power. The following will appear on the digital control section display. ____ |FIRM| ____________ |UPDATE MODE |
4) Carry out the following procedure to rewrite the firmware: Press the [ENTER] key so that the following message appears (or press the [EXIT] key to abort the firmware update). ____ |FIRM| ____________ |SURE?Y:1 N:3| Press the alpha-numeric keypad [1] key to start the firmware update (or press the [3] key to abort the firmware update). Once the firmware update starts, it cannot be aborted. While the firmware is being rewritten the display changes as follows: ____ | | | -> ____________ |Erasing. ____ |IN | ____________ |Updating. | -> ____ |OUT | | -> ____________ |Updating. ____ |MAIN| -> ____________ |1o2o3o4x Oo |
The firmware update should take about 5 minutes. When the update is successfully completed "o" will appear on the display, as follows. PM5000-52C ___ | o| <- Scene Display (this "o" will be dipslayed at the really final stage, please wait 5 minutes)
____ |MAIN| ____________ |1o2o3o4x Oo | <- Parameter Display PM5000-28/PM5000-36 ___ | o| ____ |MAIN| ____________ |1o2o3x4x Oo | In the case of the PM5000-52C check that "o" is shown next to "1, 2, 3, O" on the parameter display, and that "o" is shown on the scene display. In the case of the PM5000-28 or PM5000-36 make sure that "o" appears next to "1, 2, O" on the parameter display and that "o" appears on the scene display. If these displays do not appear as indicated there may be a hardware malfunction. In this case please contact your Yamaha service center. Remove the CF memory card from the card slot and turn off the power. 5) Initialize the internal memory. Turn on the power while holding the [STORE] key. This activates the internal memory initialization mode. Please refer to the PM5000 owner's manual for details. 6) Check the current version number. The current version number will appear on the parameter display if the power is turned on while the [UTILITY] key is held. ____ | | <- Message Display
____________ |SYSTEM:1.06 | Check that the updated version number appears on the display. The version number will be displayed for approximately 4 seconds, after which normal operation will automatically begin. 7) Reload the backup data. Insert the CF memory card and reload the data you saved in step 1) above. Please refer to the PM5000 owner's manual for details. The firmware update procedure is now complete.
